Donner messed up on a couple of things in his films, but he respected the overall legend (for the most part), which is why those movies still work. We don't need another imbecile trying to "reinvent" (a.k.a. "screw up") the story for a "modern" (a.k.a. "politically correct") audience. In the new movie, Supes needs to be brought back to being someone humanity can admire, respect, and seek to emulate (no, not on a computer).

PLEASE! DO NOT FORGET THAT DONNER DIDN'T GET TO COMPLETE HIS FILMS AS INTENDED!!! Keep in mind that the Salkinds ousted him from the project before he could complete the first two installments. Then, when they brought Richard Lester in to complete the project, they changed Donner's ending for 1 and let Lester add some pretty "out there" shit into the mix.

If Donner had been left alone, those first two films would have been purely and utterly masterful!

The one who wanted to see a Superman that didn't fly, didn't where the costume, and wanted to see him fight a giant Spider. In An Evening With Kevin Smith, Kevin Smith talks about his discussions with Jon Peters when he was on board for writing a script.

Next project Peters produced was Wild Wild West... voila! Giant Mechanical Spider!

Jon Peters sounds like a real LSD-head!!!

Unlike some fans, I don't worship the ground that Richard Donner walks on. I like the first film, very much, but a few of his choices in both cuts of "Superman II" irritated me, to say the least. As for "III" and "IV", I actually prefer the latter, because it represents what could've been, had Cannon treated the project with the proper respect (not to mention budget). IMHO, the only parts of "III" that I enjoyed were the scenes with Anette O'Toole as Lana, and the junkard fight. Everything else was stupid.

I don't really care much for the original besides it's pushing the boundaries and Reeve's excellent performance.

Yup... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005307/

Thankfully, he hasn't been involved with anything since Superman Returns though. Even then, I bet that he didn't have much influence on the final product. The guy is a friggin' loon spoon!!!

I didn't actually have a problem with Superman being a father; in fact, Jason crushing the crook with the piano is one of my favorite moments from "Returns". My main beefs with the film were threefold: Routh was too young, the whole "land grab deal" was a pathetic rehash, and Supes having a son out of wedlock was a huge black mark on his moral record.

We'd like a reboot faithful to Superman. Not Superman Returns. I think the Superman fans are more important here.

Well, I don't think that morals are ever inherently defined by the passing of time, but that's another discussion for another page. Also, I don't appreciate your tone, either; please knock it off.

Yeah but as a Superman fan, we all know where he came from. His childhood sweetheart was Lana, you don't think he did anything with her at all?

I'm sorry, it was just all in fun

What I meant was that people today just simply don't care for such things as having babies "out of wedlock".
I even think it is more common today.

In terms of the "Returns" continuity, there's no reason to assume he did since Lana's not even mentioned in the film, nor is any reference to her at all.

I respectfully disagree. I believe many still care a great deal, but unfortunately that kind of thing isn't reported by the mass media.

Well, morals are one thing, and what's socially acceptable is another. It's certainly much more socially acceptable to have a child "out of wedlock" nowadays. Not just because the media doesn't report on it. No offense, but Texas is a whole lot different than the rest of the country - and yes, I know you guys like it that way

Well, as I don't wish to hijack the thread, this is the last I'll say on the matter in here.

"Just because something is socially acceptable, that doesn't make it right."

Ah yes, "socially acceptable" is how I should've worded it.

And also, we should stop this discussion now, we're not allowed to discuss such topics actually
