I guess I am alone here in thinking the finale was mediocre at best.

It just felt to me like
[Show spoiler]"hey we are just going to have the Captain in on this, it'll be shocking!" If there had been any hints prior then I would have been fine with it, but it was a very predictable moment. The instant the guys started talking about the 3rd cop and for no reason they suddenly started cutting to Montgomery looking away, it's like "Really, ok well he's the bad guy now?"
so I spent the rest of the episode thinking how very anti-climactic that was. It's just that after three seasons I found myself wondering, "That's the best they could do?"

Also never been a fan of leaving one of the absolute essential leads who could never been killed, in a life or death moment, cause there's absolutely no worries there of course she'll be fine so that was just another unnecessary moment. I found it a rather disappointing arc to get Rick to confess his love, it took a bullet? really? Pretty sure Lockwood wasn't lying next to Montgomery either, so there's that.

Over all I was very bummed by this finale and having just watched the 5-0 finale was surprised to find that this was the one that disappointed. I enjoy Castle quite a bit, the chemistry between Beckett and Rick is undeniable, I just found the finale to be very rushed and not really enjoyable. But hey that's just my opinion. I'll still keep watching the show cause it's fun, but I did expect a lot more.

Thumbs down I'm mad.

I watched this last night, and I wanted to punch all the writers in the face.
[Show spoiler]Not only did they kill Montgomery, who was a really great character, but the scene with Kate was kinda stupid imo. She's not dead, and she's not going to die. I think that the writers could have found a better way for Castle to tell Kate that he loved her.

That was exactly what I said, after three seasons of both story arcs, I wasn't happy either either's development last night.

Oh yeah I just saw your post. I didn't read any before I posted mine. Yay redundancy.
[Show spoiler]I was a little suprised that Montgomery was the third cop, but the guy had it coming to him. So no loss there. I'll really miss Montgomery,
I wouldn't mind if the writers decided to axe Lanie instead.

In three seasons Montgomery never did more then just pop occasionally to tell them exactly what they already knew to do, so he wasn't the least bit a "beloved" character and I won't miss him in the slightest it was one of those "Ok, dudes dead, so what?" moments for me.

Ha that's how Lanie is for me, except she's annoying. I just really liked him for some reason idk. Some of the other main characters bore/annoy me, and he was not offensive. Maybe that's why.

Speaking of Lanie, anyone know why she doesn't appear in every episode despite being a regular? That guy from Minority Report has shown up a few times every season as the ME like clockwork, so it seems to be something planned. It's not a large role to begin with, so maybe they let her film other things at the same time as the show.

I forget Lanie is actually part of this show. They definitely do not do a very good job showing you anything outside of Castle and Beckett. Before last night, you wouldn't have known Montgomery even had a family or a house, lol. I couldn't tell you anything about Ryan or Esposito either, we don't really get anything of their private lives except they have girlfriends.

Obviously Kate isn't going to die, but it could still affect her career in some way. For her to not know that Castle has feelings for her, let alone loving her, then she's kinda dumb. If something happened to her, he wanted to let her know just in case he never got the chance to again.

She knew, she's always known. They just seem to wanna plague this show with the Bones/Boothe situation, were they drag it out as long as humanly possible.

Since it's out there now, it likely won't drag on. Especially since he tried to put her in her place about the case and her personal life. He tried to protect her and she didn't listen, so maybe she'll step back and let her mom's death go. And possibly except that she's been putting her mom's death in the way of letting herself be happy

Well now it's going to be all about the sniper and they will somehow still get away with not putting those two together.

Well you know, sometimes bringing two of the main characters together is the kiss of death for some shows. That's what happened to Lois and Clark back in the day.

The show was called LOIS AND CLARK it was based on a very long history. Not to mention that show was just terrible, lol. But really what other show has suffered this so called Kiss of Death after finally bringing together it's leads? If they don't get these two together soon it'll be like Bones or House, they wait way too long to get them together, I mean what was it like season 7 for both? And then they don't even keep House and Cuddy together? Lame....Booth and Brennan are just now dipping their tones, way too long of a wait, super lame.

Exactly! Why do shows always do this???

I thought it was a good episode though, but definitely not great.

I actually like the "will they/won't they" of both Castle and Bones, I think they're both done pretty well.

This is tv not real life, and nobody in real life has ever waited 7 years to get it on, especially when each is relatively attractive and single. So wtf is tv's excuse?

Actually, the first season was all about Castle and Beckett and less about the rest of the cast. It was more crime drama, less on the light-heartedness that's injected a lot these days. I loved it. Then S2 came along and the producers/writers decided they wanted to build a family with the rest of the cast. That move hit me like a baton to the noggin. It took a long while, but I've finally accepted the change in tone and perspective. The writers have done some funny bits with Ryan and Esposito observing Castle and Beckett's cat-and-mouse game, so it's alright. The Lanie-Esposito relationship is okay, but I wouldn't miss it if they broke up.

The finale was pretty good, but I wasn't all torn up about it at the end. I enjoyed the dialogue between Castle and Beckett at her place, especially that he didn't have a clue what it was between them. And Montgomery being the third man? The fact that he was leaving got set up a few eps ago when he told the team he was retiring next year as his wife's anniversary gift. That was a shock when he said it, but maybe it was meant at a quiet lead in it him leaving at the end of this season. And Beckett getting shot? I didn't buy it. Of course, she's coming back! So Castle telling her he loved her didn't grab me like it did my other friends who freaked out over it (they loved it but can't wait for the next season to start).

I'm glad the show's continuing and doing well. I've been watching since ep 1 because of Nathan/Firefly, but now I'm a total fan of the show itself and hotty Stana Katic. As for the show being on Blu, I'm thinking I'll have to wait now until the show's over and they release the complete series on Blu.

I'll admit Castle is more of a guilty pleasure and really nothing groundbreaking, but that finale was pretty good. Easily one of their best episodes yet.

That's how I see it, it's not a favorite, I could really easily live without it, but it's definitely a guilty pleasure that I watch just cause it's on.
