It's days like these when I wish I was still a member at AVF.

Great win for Blu-ray. Paramount and HD-DVD got truely stuffed with that BOGOF sale.

It's all up hill for HD-DVD now.

There was a thread about it in the HD players section this morning which I added my own analysis too - but not only was the thread locked it was also deleted. Blatant HD-DVD bias.

The HD movie section is surprisingly quiet today too.

I'd love to start a thread but I'm sure I'd get banned the minute Pecker reported the post.

Its a shame the Transformers sales figures thread got locked the other day...

I hardly ever go over to AVS anymore, well at least not the HD section. I'll go for some info on tvs but usually steer clear of the HD section. However, I did just take a peek over there to see if there was a thread on Blu beating HDDVD this week and, wow, the red ants are crawling all over the place! I could barely read any of there comments before I had to get out of there. Seriously thankful for this site.

Yeah there is a thread on Avforums and gues who was the first post to try and close it...... of course it was Pecker (quite a suitable name for someone who is a bit of a p*nis).

Avforums is a bit quiet today because they havent come to terms that Blu Ray still have more sales than HD DVD even after thier biggest release of the year.

you guys are a bit hard on Nic Rhodes though, hes a decent guy who speaks his mind. Yeah hes a little off base at times (arent we all )but i dont think he does it to spread FUD, its what he thinks to be so.

Despite selling 115,000 copies, the Transformer HD DVD didn't sell enough to take the sales lead away from Blu-ray. Winning yet another week in software sales (51% of total unit sales), Blu-ray has yet to lose a week to the rival format this year. Consumers once again voiced that their preferred high definition format is Blu-ray, and despite not having access to this year's 3rd highest grossing film, they still support the format.

so thats UK, does that cover all sales, or just a percent. pretty low figures overall but HD DVD is getting cremed.

It's not impossible that exported sales don't count in the Nielsens.

I know as fact that if anyone outside the UK buys a CD from Amazon UK to be exported, that sale doesn't count in the UK charts.

Transformers HD DVDs biggest title for 07 could not win the week.

I doubt it will win next week, so i would expect that just about ends any chance HD DVD had of winning a week anytime soon. dam have they even won a week in 2007?

As has been made clear on several occasions, discussion of figures has been banned for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Despite this, and despite two previous threads being closed (deleted, I believe) already today, some people clearly wish to circumvent this by multiple thread opening. Some people are also clearly returning/posting under different guises.

Banning of discussion has nothing to do with today's figures, and how good/bad they are for whoever. I personally used to put the stats up every Friday, and was asked to desist by Ian J 3 Fridays ago.

Everyone should be clear now that this discussion is banned.

I expect the mods will take a dim view on anyone trying to by-pass their ruling.

Even if discussion were still allowed, comments like "HD-DVD is taking a royal hiding on these shores" would doubtless be considered to be unnecessarily inflametory trolling.

An interesting set of stats here from all and sundry showing how the Nielsen data supports sales of 115,000...

...butthen forgetting Nielsen don't count Wal-Mart who have 40% of DVD sales...

...which, if you do the maths, works out at just over 190,000.

What a coincidence!

Sadly it appears to show that, not only do Nielsen not count Wal-Mart, according to HMM Wal-Mart's 40% don't even exist.

I presume the $198 HD-A2s at Wal-Mart don't count either.

I hear lots of talk about Nielsen been an industry standard. Well, all media has its own little quirks. When discs are bought, they'll be bought by a sligfhtly different demographic with slightly different shopping patterns. Figuring out how to weight these takes several years of studying that particular media - several years which, to be fair to Nielsen, they haven't had.

So somebody can say TF will be the biggest seller of the year and i cant question that?

Blu-ray sells 30 / 40% more on average therefore something can be a lot less popular across the customer base but still sell more than a comparative title on HD-DVD. If Transformers was on Blu-ray only it would likely have done 300k copies.

Also the Spiderman 3 box set was number 2 behind Transformers the other day on the Amazon sales thing and thats with the box set being a pre-order only and a lot more expensive...

Whats the bets that when a Blu-ray title outsells Transformers we get loads of posts about how we shouldnt be discussing sales blah blah blah.

zz101, I don't think it's what's being discussed, so much as how it's discussed.

One thing that really winds people up is when one side quotes opinion as fact, or skews the facts, ignoring obvious criterea.

I agree that BD sales are generally better than HD DVD by c.60:40, (Jag's edit:- Acutually 65:35 YTD) but there are all sorts of reasons for this.

Transformers proves you can still sell very well on HD DVD-only.

I don't doubt that it wouldn't have done quite so well were it not for a lot of PS3 owners deciding they could afford a $200 HD-A2, so the sales ratios may well change in the future. (Jag's edit:- So Blu-ray owners are all PS3 owners, PS3 owners who are buying $200 HD-DVD A2's, hhmm, not heard that before)

This really shouldn't be a thread that some are allowed to turn into a format war thread. LOL, LOL, LOL

See my post #70 above (and MA's reply in #71) for how you can calmly and sensible discuss sales without it becoming format war-ish. (Jag's edit:- Except when he tries to shut down the Nieslon thread when HD-DVD loses the week) Compare that to your last 2 or 3 posts, which appear designed to provoke.

I have been a long time lurker of both forums (from the UK) and having read a link today I posted those figures.

My thread was closed but I recieved a polite email from one of the moderaters explaining the reasons behind and I had no probs.

I must say the site has never come across a particularly favouring one format.
