Good luck with that, as there's been no old dub of any Ghibli film that subsequently got re-dubbed by Disney released on BD to date. That would include Kiki, Totoro, and Laputa. The highest quality Totoro release anywwere that has the old Streamline dub would be the 2001 Japanese DVD, which at least has 16:9 video unlike the Fox DVD's pan-and-scan.

This is the only deciding factor which will make me choose between this or the more expensive Japanese import.

Edit: does the Disney version also have frame stabilisation? In the Japanese and U.K. Blu rays sometimes the frame moves around very slightly and it is noticeable around the edges. I am fine with this because I believe it is to do with the animation transfer in the original source but read somewhere that the Disney blus had been stabilised in some way?

Edit 2: I got the blu ray and the original title and credits are there when on the Japanese audio. I have never seen this before where the picture changes when the you change the soundtrack!
All the Disney releases retain the original Japanese credits when you select the Japanese audio tracks for all Ghibli movies.

Except Nausicaa, since Disney burnt-in the dub credits into the video encode itself for that one.

Unfortunately, Region 2 DVDs aren't really an option for me. But that is good to hear, that you can find Streamline's dub someplace else and in widescreen.

I'm not sure about Mono sound on the 2001 DVD though. Totoro isn't known for its bombastic soundtrack, but Fox does have a Dolby Surround Mix.

I can't believe it has been almost 12 years since the Disney blu-ray came out. I re-watched it today and it is still a very strong looking presentation in my opinion.

I asked my sister to get the Totoro blu ray from Japan. She instead got me the DVD from the Myazaki museum. Bonus was she got me the Spirited Away OST vinyl as a gift.

Does this dvd have the streamline English. How is it different from the Disney version?

Edit: just checked a YouTube video. The Disney Japan DVD has the Disney English dub.

There are two DVDs, the 2001 DVD and the 2014 DVD. The 2001 DVD has calendar artwork, while the 2014 one has the theatrical poster with the not-Satsuki. The 2001 DVD has the Streamline dub.
