You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

Anyone know what's going on here?

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/playtime-1967

Says Studio Canal submitted a version of Playtime at 187m 40s that passed as PG (rather than U) and was submitted last month for home video release (DVD/Blu-ray)?

I thought there was a 'lost' 152-minute version, but not aware of an 188-minute one! I wonder if this is correct or just a typo...but it definitely implies a different cut as it has been rated PG.

D'oh, I thought it might be something like that but couldn't see the components bit anywhere. Anyway, I wonder why they're submitting it now...after already releasing this film on Blu-ray last year.

Just the existing StudioCanal disc, then, it seems.

Is anyone able to post some images of the physical boxset? I have seen photos of the French version which looks great but Im guessing the UK is not the same.

Not got pics (have the Criterion myself) but if I remember correctly it’s thin cardboard with the films in skinny blue amarays.

The Criterion pees all over the SC collection.

Actually they’re very similar (apart from the packaging). The SC is a lot cheaper.

Picked up the BFI release of Playtime on eBay and figured I’d check the other releases out. Well looks like this is OOP too.

Although Base/Hive/eBay still has it, starting at £54.99

The BFI release of Hulot has a Richard Lester interview on the DVD disc

Think they've just reissued it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08LFK29YB

Haven't looked to see if there are any differences.

Thanks so much! I might still want to look for the old release because of the BBFC logos though

This is what throws me off with dual format releases usually, where the Amazon prices will lead me to assume it’s OOP, when it’s just been reissued with only the Blu-ray

I just put up a Playtime poster in my movie room. It's in my top 10 movies.

That's the only BFI disc I have, didn't realise it had that extra!

I recommend the SC set, especially since it has a bonus disc of shorts that you can't get separately.

Yes, I’ll definitely get the StudioCanal set, but I’d rather try Tati out before I commit to a boxset - which is what I suggested on Demy in the Criterion thread.

Playtime has

Quote:
Audio Commentary by film historian Philip Kemp
"Tati At The NFT" audio interview (23:52)
on the BD, and on the DVD disc

Quote:
"Au-dela de Playtime" featurette (6:13)
Sylvette Baundrot (script-girl) on Tati and Playtime (12:11)
"Tati Story" short (20:39)
Theatrical Trailer
Combined with the StudioCanal disc, you end up with most of the Criterion extras that way, besides the Terry Jones introduction and Jacques Tati at the 1972 San Francisco Film Festival.
