While not anime, it is Japanese/semi/kinda related....

U.S. MegaBots Team Launches Kickstarter For Kuratas Face-Off

Quote:
The U.S.-based MegaBots company launched a US$500,000 Kickstarter campaign to fund its upcoming duel with Suidobashi Heavy Industry's million-dollar Kuratas robot. The duel prospect is garnering attention and support from top industry specialists to convert the slow, top heavy Mk. II into a strong fighting machine.

If the project meets its goal, creators Matt Oehrlein and Gui Cavalcanti are teaming up with Howe & Howe Technologies to build a track base that would allow the robot to move at much greater rates of speed and will add stronger armor plating, better weaponry, upgraded hydraulics, and upgrade the robot's power unit.

At the US$750,000 stretch goal, more weapon possibilities will be tested. At US$1,000,000, the team will bring on IHMC Robotics from the DARPA challenge to develop a specialized balancing system to keep the Mk. II from falling over if it's hit. The US$1,250,000 goal will bring on NASA to create a safety system for the pilots. Finally, at US$1,500,000, FonCo Creative Services will add a Hollywood-level, patriotic paint job.

Also collaborating on the project is Mythbusters' Grant Imahara, X-Prize's Peter Diamandis, and BattleBots founders Trey Roski and Greg Munson.

The gasoline-powered, 15-foot-tall Mk. II weighs in at 12,000lbs (5,400kg) and requires two pilots to fully operate its movement and cannons. Its cannon shoots three-pound paint balls at 120mph while its smaller gun shoots 20 "paint rockets." Rewards include a chance a 3D Printed Mk. II and the chance to test drive the robot.

So far the campaign has raised US$57,332. Pledges are accepted until September 18.

LWA Production report: Blu-ray is ready!
Quote:
Hello everyone! Sorry for being silent since our premiere event at Anime Expo, and of course the tremendous delay on the rewards... However, we are making progress and I’ve got several exciting news to share with all of our backers today!

For those who attended our premiere event may already know, but it was our first time to actually view the completed film at the event as well. Yes… that’s how badly the premiere of the Little Witch Academia the Enchanted Parade was rushed. Since we felt that the film was not completed to our standard, we went on and reworked/patched up on quite the number of scenes that caught our attention!

So, what does that mean…?
The physical copy of the LWA will be a more complete version of the film, and we hope to provide a stunning presentation for both who have seen the premiere version and those who have not!

With the film finished, we are finally able to move on with preparing the rewards for our backers. I believe the most anticipated reward is the Blu-ray of the actual film, and I snapped a couple of pictures for our backers!

Alongside with our BD, the art book has been finished as well! With the majority of our physical rewards ready, we are making preparation to ship our physical rewards! However, we still have to pack these wonderful items and that may take some time… Once we have a clear estimate on the delivery dates on both physical and digital awards we will make another announcement via our update page on Kickstarter so please do stay in touch!

That's a shame, I backed the Limited Edition myself, can't wait to get my hands on it. I downloaded the Vimeo copy that they sent me, but still haven't watched it since I'm waiting for the BD. The fact that they're tweaking the film is even better.

I missed that LWA 2 kickstarter by only a few hours, I emailed them about it but was rejected, and those B-tards never setup any access for late-comers like almost every other anime kickstarter I've participated in... I'll just buy both releases when the second one comes out retail. It's only been over two years since the Kickstarter began for Part 2 - they should be able to get an entire season done in less than 50 more years...

It was designed to be sold worldwide.

It also includes a making-of feature, about 70 minutes, which I thought was very good. Not some glossy puff piece you would usually get. Showed a little of the tough side to anime production too, in particular one animator who was finding it quite difficult.

Also showed one of the senior guys doing an amazing piece of background art. IIRC, took about a week to do by hand, all to be shown on screen for a few seconds.

Only anime- related, today the campaigne for the 'Saber Rider' videogame started. I don't know how popular the series was in the US, but in Germany there are still a lot of fans:

For those of you who backed the Mai Mai Miracle campaign, have there been any recent updates?

I didn't even find out about the campaign until after it was over, but because this is a title I've wanted to see for a long time, I'm desperately hoping there will be additional copies for purchase like there was with the Bubblegum Crisis sets.

Think the Mai Mai Miracle KS is finally heading into the homeward stretch. The last update was, I think, last month, and the dub was nearly finished.

I don't think they've said anything about additional copies for sale. If they have, I've missed it.

Thanks, I did email someone at All The Anime a few months ago asking about additional copies, but at that time they didn't have any information to provide.

Hopefully I can get one somehow. Maybe someone ordered two and would be willing to sell?

Always worth keeping an eye on eBay shortly after people start getting their's.

I'd also try mailing AtA again

I'll probably stick mine on eBay when it arrives, watched the digital version they released a while ago.

Would you like me to message you when I do?

I'm kinda bummed that two years ago we had a big burst of anime Kickstarters, with LWA2, Time of Eve, Mai Mai Miracle, Bubblegum Crisis, and Patema Inverted - but not nearly so much since then... At least Animeigo is releasing some new ones in quick order, Otaku no Video and Riding Bean and such, The only other one I've gone for is Under the Dog, which was delayed almost a year because of their their internal issues.

The only other Kickstarter I'm participating in right now is non-anime, and that's the Star Trek TOS "Prequel" movie Axanar, which I'm really looking forward to - in a couple years, lol...
