Default Starz' "Black Sails" (Season 3)

Did a search and did not find a thread.

I had a chance to watch the premiere episode about a month ago at work. Lot's of action, blood, plenty of scheming, nudity and sex. Hopefully it's a good enough replacement to the void after the Spartacus series.

Any other thoughts?

I may be in the minority, but I liked it. I'd give it a solid B. I liked the look of the show, including the scenes shot around the Bahamas and the costume design. The water scenes looked gorgeous on Starz HD. I read Jeff Jensen's review on EW.com and I pretty much agree with his assessment. It got a little light on action after the 1st big action sequence, but I think this 1st episode did establish conflict, which is most important for a show like this.

Neil Marshall, who directed The Descent and a few episodes of Game of Thrones did solid work with "I" IMO.

The highlight for me was Toby Stephens as Flint. Sure he may have been a little over the top at times, but he's playing a Pirate. I think he has the gravitas to carry this show. That fight scene at the scene was pretty gruesome. A little surprised that Billy Bones covered for him. I liked seeing Zach McGowan (Jody from Shameless) as Vane. This part seems tailor made for him.

at Long John Silver's visit to see Blackbeard.

This is an R rated Pirate show with some edge. Takes us away from the silliness of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Glad Starz already renewed it for a 2nd season to give the writer's time to develop the stories and characters. This type of show needs that extra cushion. It wouldn't have been fair to sit on the 8 episodes and then wait until the last minute to make a decision.

Yes I think they needed the action right away to catch the viewers attention. The Blackbeard scene was great!! And yes that fighting scene at the end was brutal.

This one has been added to my DVR schedule and hope it continues with some great stories.

Had company over last night, so we didn't get a chance to watch it, but it has been on my radar for a while. One of my most anticipated new shows of 2014. Probably will do a double feature tonight: True Detective & Black Sails!

I've completely forgot about that show... Luckily for me, it was programmed on my PVR! Watching it tonight!

The shark scene was fantastic! The most underrated TV show right now. Great fun.

Well for one, it's on a pay channel so that alone limits a lot of the viewing audience. Which is a shame because they are missing a great show.
Funny how about 15-20 years ago, I used to watch pay channels for movies. Now I watch them for great scripted shows and fantastic documentaries.

I have Starz and watch Black Sails every week. It's a great show.

But yes being on a premium channel severely limits it's audience. There are many people who don't subscribe to Starz. That and Starz doesn't offer the channel a la carte like HBO and Showtime.

Anyways, Saturdays episode was pretty solid. It was interesting seeing Flint's crew battle the elements while being lost at sea.

I suggest this show to all of my friends who like Game of Thrones. Got one of them addicted with another two starting the show soon. Insanely underrated show.

It's on Amazon prime over here, its the only way to watch it in the UK and keep up to date, it is then shown on History the following year

Okay, you got me.
I've been intrigued, but never bit.

Then my work here is done.

Seriously though, make sure you give it a couple of episodes, it won't disappoint.

I had a few hours to kill Saturday waiting for Black Sails, so I was perusing Comcast's abysmally organized on-demand and listening to their incessantly annoying on-demand hosts yabber on about their amazing content, when out of the blue they dropped the gem "new episodes of Black Sails appear on demand Saturday mornings ahead of their debut"... and cruised over to the Black Sails menu, and boom, there it was, the new episode!

Ugh, the only thing bad about this show is that I can't binge watch the whole season.

The setup is starting to unravel. Not only are the British part of the equation, the Spanish might show up with their navy. The scale of the finale or even next season if there is going to be one will be insane.

There will be. The show was renewed for a fourth season before season three even aired
