This sounds spectacular. Do we have any idea what the 17 films are? I've been trying to work it out. I'm guess chronologically the last one will be Fitzcarraldo (1982), the first maybe Signs of Life (1968), unless they're starting with The Unprecedented Defence of the Fortress Deutschkreuz (1967)? But he made more than 17 films in between (including TV stuff), and I don't know what BFI has the rights to.

If this does well, I wonder if a second box set is possible, again depending on what the BFI has rights to.

OH MY GOD FINALLY I AM SO ECSTATIC! Not only have MoC just announced Harold and Maude but the BFI finall announced this bad boy! CAN'T WAIT!

EDIT: also Eyes Without A Face? Great shout BFI! Weird that they're re-releasing the Seven Samurai steelbook (probably leftover from Zavvi, right?) - also slightly annoying they're releasing separate steelbooks of Aguirre and Nosferatu as well as the collection set...I will be wanting all three! Gonna have to start saving up for that Herzog boxset. So happy!!!!

Great news

Also, VERY excited for the Aguirre, Wrath of God Steelbook - one of my favourite movies.

Concerning Nosferatu - what differences to the Eureka Moc can we expect?

Yeah this is great news, though not for my bank balance!

I see Even Dwarfs Started Small and Heart of Glass are "missing" from that list of contents so one of my Anchor Bay Herzog box sets wont be redundant for a while yet!

Shout Blu for My Best Fiend is definitely in HD, but it's way soft to me... I have the US Anchor Bay DVD, too, but it looks better in my eyes.

But what's more sad about this Blu is the fact that there is no subtitles for the German speaking part for the English audio. The disc actually has 2 English subtitles, but both are for the German audio. I like to watch it in English, but to do so I need to turn on the subs all the time, unlike the DVD where only the German speaking part is subtitled.

I hope BFI releases it on Blu someday, though.

Default The Werner Herzog Collection (BFI) in July

Packaging is fine. Smart, well-designed typefaces, the usual BFI high quality. And it sits perfectly next to every other blu-ray. No idea what people are complaining about.

Watched Aguirre... the other night. Stunning transfer - leaps and bounds over the appalling Anchor Bay DVD.

My set is undamaged, but it's got thin card that won't wear well and I'm terrified of cracking the edges of a disc each time I take one out and put it back in. I like the simplicity of the artwork though. I'd have been very happy with exactly the same design, just with thicker card and better disc hubs.

Default German version of Nosferatu

I'd be really grateful if anyone could say for sure if the BFI Herzog Collection has the longer German version and if the BFI Nosferatu steelbook has any extras that aren't in the BFI collection.

I have slacked off a bit watching these.

Finished Nosferatu (the way Nos's ship enters the town and drifts to the bank is a wonderful shot) and am just watching the discs in order.

Klaus Kinski in 'Woyzeck' is up for me next.

Yep, Nosferatu made me fall in love with Herzog. Think I might go for this set in the new year.

His best film IMO. But I love folk horror, so I'm biased.

I've got Popol Vuh's soudntrack CD too, a hauntingly beautiful score synced up to the film but I have to admit it's monotonous in isolation.

^^That's most film scores to me. They are designed to work with images.

I just cracked open this boxset a few days ago myself. I bought it 3 years ago and it remained sealed until last Tuesday!

The downsides are no Even Dwarfs Started Small and Lessons of Darkness. Oh well.
