Can you edit subtitle tracks during or before the muxing process? ADV's subtitle translation for the Platinum release was quite good, but there are some points here and there I'd prefer to adjust.

(Not to mention fix some major **** ups in Manga's subs for End of Eva.)

Yes, it's pretty easy to edit subs. Just a slightly more advanced text editor, usually.

I'm guessing the adjustments will come from notes from Evangelion fan sites like Evageeks? Any other site you would recommend checking out?

Evageeks and their wiki would be the bulk of it, plus some of my own opinions influenced by a stricter adherence to the Japanese terminology (ex: "Children" over "Child," etc...) I can't really recommend other sites besides the Evangelion Otaku Page (it has a fan translated script for End of Eva) since I don't really participate in fandoms anymore.

I've been trying to get Blu-Ray discs working in MPC-HC. I keep finding sources saying they've gotten them working without ripping the disc onto their Hard Drive but I can't for the life of me manage to do it :/

Did you try contacting Cyberlink about it? I remember having some luck with their customer support a few years back, maybe if you supply them with the make/model/serial of the laptop they'll fix you up.

As for playing discs in MPC-HC and other unlicensed players, you don't technically need to rip them but it won't work out-of-the-box because the discs are still encrypted. Not sure if there are any freeware alternatives to AnyDVD HD.

If you had a legal copy of PowerDVD 13 pre-installed on your laptop, you could always get them to send you a DVD copy for real cheap - I just purchased PowerDVD 14 back in January for my all-in-one PC (they had a sale on it for only $39; the pre-installed Version 10 was having issues playing newer BDs), and a DVD copy for backup purposes only cost about $9, so I opted to get that as well...

If all you want to do is change text, SRTED is wonderful for editing .ass and .srt files.

Make an mkv, add subs and watch on MPC-HC. Best way to deal with many anime releases these days. Import, do some work and then you're good.

On Fandompost, WTK posted a link to a form people can fill out to get in touch with King Records, the company releasing the NGE box. Here's the link: https://cnt.kingrecords.co.jp/customer/cs/cs_form.html

The form translated:
Name (full name) [required]
Furigana (hiragana em) [required] (*us English language people can just write how to pronounce our names I guess?)
E-mail address (alphanumeric) [required]
Telephone number (alphanumeric) [required]
FAX number (alphanumeric) (*not required)
Address [required]
Age
Gender (button: Male) (button: Female)
Contents opinions and requests and questions [required]
(If about products, please mention your also possible item number)

I think the item number for the non-Amazon exclusive NGE box is KIXA-90501. I'm going to fill out the form now, click the bottom button to the left, and see what happens.

EDIT: In the comments section, I wrote "Please include English subtitles on all episodes and movies in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Blu-ray box, KIXA-90501. Thanks!" After selecting the bottom button to the left I was shown the form filled in for review, and I again pressed the bottom button to the left. I think it submitted? Who knows, a lot of garbled Internetspeak came up on the next page, but I'd like to think it went through.

Maybe it was different a few years ago? I got my first Amazon JP order 3 years ago and all I had to do was use the same Name and Password as I did in all the other Amazons.

The button on the left says "send" while the one on the right says "reset."

It is (technically it's being listed as "KIXA-90501~9" with several retailers since it's a 9-disc set).

I'm curious to see how the early Komm, Susser Todd scenes come out. They're very messy and disjointed. Also curious about the live-action segments.
Nevertheless I've pre-ordered for EoE if nothing else.

Default Sorry, no update, but...

This week's Answerman on ANN opened with a good Q/A concerning Evangelion's potential US licencing and distribution.

Quote:
Craig asks:

With the recent announcement of Evangelion being released this summer on Blu-Ray in Japan for the first time as a complete box set, will this be a huge bidding war between licensees, or will this go to Funimation as they have the current rights to the 4 Eva rebuild films? Also, can we expect them to create and release several limited edition sets if and when it gets released in NA, such as they did with Cowboy Bebop and other titles?

Evangelion's new Blu-ray remaster in Japan is a really big deal. The series is still one of the best loved anime TV series in history, and the new boxed sets coming out are very hotly anticipated. As ADV Films' rights to the TV series expired some years ago, and whatever legal wrangling that was happening between Gainax and Studio Khara in Japan appear to have been resolved (with Hideaki Anno's Studio Khara now controlling everything Evangelion-related), it would appear that international rights, including the US, are up for grabs again.

This will be expensive. INSANELY expensive.

While technically anybody could end up with the series, I would be genuinely shocked if anybody other than Funimation actually managed to get it. Their distribution of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies has nothing to do with it: they're simply the only company that I can see throwing that much money at an older show. What's more, a US release of a show as famous as Evangelion is going to be subject to EXTREME amounts of licensor control and scrutiny, which rules out any company that isn't used to dealing with Japan. My second guess would be Viz, given their recent success (sales-wise, if not quality-wise) with the Sailor Moon reissue. But that's pretty much it. A glance over recent activity from Sentai Filmworks seems to indicate they are simply not in the expensive end of this business lately, and nobody else really is. And there may or may not be bad blood remaining from the stillborn live action project (that ended in a lawsuit).

The other thing is, it's going to take years. We STILL don't have a street date for Funimation's BD/DVD release of Evangelion 3.33, and that was announced back in 2013. Personally, I already have my pre-order in for the import boxed set. That show is just too precious for me to wait and believe that someday a domestic release will come.

Eva is pretty much the last classical Anime left for me to get, but they screwed up so much i'm just going to forget all about it until i remember again in 5 years or so.

I loved 1.11 and 2.22, but 3.33 was awful and i'm hoping they bring it back and finish strong on 4.44

The way I see it, evaluating 3.33's place in the Rebuild continuity right now is like someone in Spring 1997 judging how the rest of The End of Evangelion will turn out based on Rebirth. There's just too many unknowns to factor in.
