Yup Beauty and the Beast was re-released as a 5 disc 3D Diamond Edition in 2011 with: 3D Blu-Ray, 2D Feature Film Blu-ray, 2D Bonus Disc Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy Disc.

Yes, my mistake! I checked again and it's only the 2D version that I have. That really sucks. How on earth I missed out on that one, I'll never understand. I usually buy these in order to get the bonus Digital copy. Oh well, you snooze, you lose, as the expression goes 😔

I really, really hate how Disney dug their heels in about refusing to release this one until dead last. Fine for them to throw out BatB and Lion King right away in 2010/11 and bury Aladdin, which many people from the same generation love just as much if not more. The worst part is there become such a demand for it after Robin Williams passed last year, and had Disney proceeded with the order the Diamonds should have been released in it would have hit last October and everyone would have gotten to enjoy it. But no, they had to re-release Sleeping Beauty a year early just because of the damn Maleficent movie tie-n, so now we have to wait inordinately long for what I consider one of the all-time best in their canon.

Yeah why DID they push Aladdin so far back? Was it because the Platinum DVD didn't sell as well as they'd hoped it would back when it first came out? (Which I find hard to believe because it was an awesome DVD).

Wasn't it because of the Broadway show? They always want cross promotion i guess.

Well, in this case, the 3D Blu-ray came out after the original Blu-ray had already been out for a while. So, if you're like me, you got the Blu-ray when it first came out

Thanks for your response. Yes, I'm quite sure that's what happened as I know that if there had been a choice, I definitely would have grabbed the 3D one with the Digital copy! That really pisses me off. Do you know how much longer after the original release that this came out?

I wonder if they'll do something about Snow White and Bambi. To date, they're the only Diamond Editions that have had no Digital Copy release whatsoever. Better question, perhaps, is what they'll do after Pinocchio is (presumably) released next year. I've heard that they may release a special Diamond Edition Alice in Wonderland to coincide with the release of the live-action film.

Or Cinderella?

Maybe they'll do a live action version of Bambi called "Bambi's Hunter Ted", where the hunter will really be trying to protect Bambi from his crazed irresponsible mother by shooting her. Then Ted will throw the down the gun, stare straight into the camera, and tell the NRA to suck it, and that he's going to adopt Bambi and start a deer farm.

There is a good speculation and one of many. But of all of them I find it the most likely, since it was announced as a Platinum but canceled at the eleventh hour because of the superfluous "tradition" of keeping this never ending money maker out of the vault, same with Dumbo.

Not only would it be it's 55th anniversary, but if Dumbo follows up that would mark D's 75th Anniversary, and then, if they start again with Snow White, it would be the 80th Anniversary with that one. It's one big anniversary bundle that could easily be exploited. If it's important enough for Disney to release Peter Pan for it's 60th and put Aladdin on hold, the idea is surely being considered.

But most likely we will get a regular re-release with a digital copy and one or two new bonus features but with the same transfer for Alice. But never say never

And a live action

Pinocchio
101 Dalmatians (again)
Dumbo
Beauty and the Beast
Jungle Book
Peter Pan (though Warner Brothers)
and Robin Hood

What's next?
Fantasia with Rap music?
Lady and the Tramp but as a stupid novel teen romance movie?

Could you imagine?
Odds of those sucking would be PRETTY good.......

Anyways, Jasmine's midriff, finally in HD!

[Show spoiler]

Already have it in HD but I'll probably get if for the extras and new cover art. I wonder if they'll put out The Return of Jafar and King of Thieves out on Blu. I don't even think they've ever released The return of Jafar in widescreen yet in the US.
