Casino UK steelbook disc had a fault halfway through which lots of people noticed at the time. Sent that back for a refund and got the Spanish steelbook instead which is nicer anyway and the disc was fine. Godfather 2 (2nd disc) would not work on my newer Blu-ray player but got a a swap for that disc from the manufacturer/studio. |

I've worked out what the issue is in my case: my drive doesn't support the latest specs of HDCP employed in recent discs. (Version 2.2, I believe, the most recent devil-spawn of Macrovision.) So far, this problem has shown up for me in the Region B releases of the new Kingdom of Heaven, Interstellar and Buried Blu-rays. I've got a fair number of recent titles in my Great Unwatched pile, so no doubt there will be more.
The drive manufacture isn't responding to enquiries about a new firmware release to address this. I guess I can see why they wouldn't want to go that route, even if it's possible, when issues like this are an inducement for people to buy new hardware. As I said in an earlier post, at least if I use my PC for these discs I have a software solution -- until purchasing new hardware becomes unavoidable, in any case. |

Finally got round to watching this and the disc was an absolute bugger to play.
Popped the disc in ready to watch and would not load, blank screen (BD's that feature BD+ tend to take a little longer to start playing on my player, but this refused to load), so I ejected the disc and put it back in again, took a while to load but did eventually and got to the main menu. Selected the DC to watch, Scott's intro played fine, the film started to play, no problems. Then a few minutes in, audio drop outs started to occur, along with stuttering video, soon after it froze. Ejected the disc once again, started it again, got back into playback and selected resume playback, now it started to give me very bad macroblocking/break up along with audio pops and decided to freeze again, but this time gave me an error regarding 'invalid key'. I wasn't going to give in though, so I ejected the disc, started it again, got to the main menu, selected the DC, played Scott's intro and the film began. The film then played flawlessly to the end and I enjoyed it! It does seem that the majority of playback issues are related to the copy protection mechanisms on the disc and within the equipment chain. It doesn't do a very good job of protecting said content, and at the same time actually interferes with the playback on genuine setups. I haven't had any major issues with discs on my setup, but this disc did it. |

Could it be the bd player you are using?? |

It is both player and disc related. My BD player is quiet old, but it is a reference player and I still love it, although it hasn't had a firmware update since 2013 (player is now discontinued).
Regarding the disc itself, Fox are known to introduce/encode their Blu-ray's with more sophisticated CP, they are one of a few (if not the only studio nowadays) who use BD+, and a lot of players new and old have had and do have issues playing back some Fox titles, this included. |

My disc doesn't play, either...
![]() Player is Pioneer Bdp-LX52, firmware is the latest (Ver. 3.74). Can either of you, who are able to play the disc, share the player type and firmware version? Until I read about the Oppo-issues, I was considering getting one myself, since I finally wanted to no longer worry about region codes! ![]() But this made me reconsider... |

![]() It is running the latest firmware (3.74), and as I said, it wouldn't load initially, but did eventually playback after a lot of trying. |

I am frustrated that Oppo seem to be ignoring the issue of these problematic Fox disks. They have not updated the firmware for over a year in UK or US and don't seem to be interested in my conversations with them on fixing for their current players like the 103D, let alone obsolete ones like my 93.
As others have said its because Fox insist on always using the latest copy protection codes as soon as they are released and these are incompatible with most players. Over time if manufacturers are updating firmware it should allow the players to catchup. Also they insist on the BD Java+ crap which is completely useless in terms of what it adds to BD playback but again causes no end of disk and player incompatibility grief. For me the UK disks are coasters with a nice steelbook case. At least the US disks play no problem but may be an issue for some as the extras disk 2 is RA locked, whilst the film disk 1 is region free. It always seems with Fox and MGM whom they produce BDs for, that the UK and European disks are more problematic and prone to issues than the US ones. |

Saw this on clearance on Zavvi yesterday and ordered. Was about $17 US, and that's a nice case. I watched the movie about a week ago via Vudu, and was disappointed to find that whether I used an UV code, or redeemed through Disc-to-digital, I only have the theatrical version... neither directors cut was available.
I too have a Oppo 93, and I added the region mod which I mostly use for Studio Canal releases that give me trouble otherwise (Imitation Game, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, etc.). But fortunately, I have a PS4, and an Xbox One, so as long as it plays in ONE of these devices, I should be good to go! ![]() As for Oppo not updating the firmware, I'd agree it would be nice of them to support their newer devices. Frankly, I've been amazed with Oppo's technical support team the times I've dealt with them. They eventually released firmware that resolved issue with Netgear MOCA (Ethernet to Coax) network adapters that I'm sure less than .005% of people use. They fixed the issues with the Game Of Thrones discs when some issue was found to have problems there. And I'm sure if they figure out what the issue is with these discs and they are able to provide a resolution without breaking something else, they will. But I'm not going to bash them if they don't provide even MORE support on a device that hasn't been in their current product line (the 93) for more than 3 years. At some point, you have to appreciate that you have a player that doesn't have the issues newer models do, can be region released, and simply provides some of the best playback of any Blu-ray player (3D or otherwise) to date. |
