Don't get too excited. That site has a tendency to be overzealous in reporting OOP status. Moreover, Criterion has been dealing with several major changes, including switching to BD/DVD combo packs and then switching back to separate BD and DVD editions. Stuff will appear to go "OOP", but they're simply a result of packaging and policy changes, not actually canceling production runs.

The digipack of The Last Emperor is now OOS since the second printing (2014) is packaged in the regular plastic case. Plenty at my local Costco.

Definitely check FYE if you're looking for a copy of this film, I do run across it occasionally there. I was in a store just a few days back that still has two new copies quite cheap.

If The Last Emperor has been discontinued, whic appears to be the case, that could be good news. Maybe Criterion is reissuing it using the new restoration done for the recent 3D conversion.

I would give anything to have the restored version in OAR. My Japanese BD is at least OAR, but the transfer is even worse than the already mediocre old Criterion one.

I got mine for $10 new at Vintage Stock a few months back. It might be a select retailers title.

Last Emperor is definitely NOT out of print. I just bought a copy at Costco last week. Only the digipack is out of print and has been replaced with a standard Criterion case.

This. Unless Criterion states on their site it's Out of Print, then it's safe to assume it's still available

nearly all of the last few months catalog titles are rare too see, but are available. Last year, it seemed walmart was the primary carrier in my area, 7.88 and 10 price point, but lately, amazon and movie stop only
* this is only what I have seen, not a report from WB/Fox, etc

I just snagged War & Peace mixed in with childrens films at WM for 9.xx

I don't think that the Zatiochi set, released by Criterion, is going OOP by Disney

Thanks to this thread, I made a list of stuff I thought I had seen at Barnes & Noble recently and went to check it out. I saw Jason & the Argonauts 2 weeks ago when searching for Starman there, but it was gone today. I also thought I had seen The Player there, but had it mixed up with The Producers. But, I did find this, mind blown.

It wasn't here 2 weeks ago, I made a point to search the $9.99 and $14.99 sale sections along with every place else I saw the short blue cases. Only bummer is it had a $14.99 sale tag on it, but that was expired so it was $19.99. Thanks thread, I wouldn't have taken the long drive across town to B&N if not for this.
