[Show spoiler]He took the injured man to the fortress because he promised him fuel. He then went and got the truck because he was going to get something out of it. And then, the way I see it, he helped them in the end partly out of the goodness of his heart, but also because he had a bruised ego after he was caught and nearly killed by Hummungus's people

Also, I don't know if you've seen other George Miller films, but he's not always someone who bothers with exposition vomit. We only know about what drives Max in RW because of the first one, but it very much works on it's own although his family is only mentioned during one scene. In the Witches of Eastwick we are not explicitly told why these women can make things magically happen, but with a couple of seemingly throw-away lines in the middle, we know. With Happy Feet we learn what's happening with the fishes just as Mumble is learning it, and the exposition dump doesn't happen until the end. Even his true-life film, Lorenzo's Oil is about parents doing research and slowly learning about their son's disease.

So, you may call the lack of background a weakness, but that's George Miller for you.
Yes, I've seen all of Miller's films.

And no, you can't say what he did in TRW is the same. he made a choice to help that man to get fuel. It was a selfish choice and reflected his character. As he re-learned compassion, and after they helped him when he was wounded, he offered to help them when he didn't have to. That's character growth - the shell of a man started to become the man he used to be.

I just think it was weak in Fury Road, and I'm not the only one. I've talked to many people who loved the action but felt everything else was too thin and weak. Maybe there's more in a longer cut, who knows.

No, that's disappointment in the writing, of which there wasn't any, since the script really only existed in storyboard form. There's no excuse for thinly drawn characters in any movie, especially a character whose had 3 films yet doesn't even act or talk like the same guy in this one. That's fine, but you have to set it up first if you're going to change it.

As I said, movies like Transformers get raked over the coals for not having character development, but now this comes along and gets somewhat overrated praise by the same people saying now it doesn't matter just because. It either matters or it doesn't.

It's still a very good movie and the action is second to none, it just could've been that much better with a little less chase and a little more character.

Transformer movies have a ton of character development and exposition, but it's all useless and rather boring. Fury Road on the other hand built an incredibly complex and rich world. And one of the coolest female characters ever. Quite an accomplishment.

LOL - it's a MAD MAX film. Would MAD MAX fans have been so eager to see Mad Maxine? I think not.

I'll grab a steelbook if one is produced.

Judging by WB's history, expect this to be $10 during Black Friday (for those who want to blind buy, it's worth it at full price though).

I actually sympathized with Immortan Joe quite a bit, and that's a testament to how much emotion Hugh Keays-Byrne was able to convey with his eyes while he was wearing the mask.

[Show spoiler]When his first wife/breeder passed away, and the baby was lost, Immortan Joe's rage and sadness was all there in the eyes. Part of me wanted him to catch up with Furiosa and Max to get even, although I was primarily rooting for Furiosa and Max.

Saw it last night in 3D in a Regal RPX theater (tremendous sound, bigger screen, slightly nicer seats). I don't know if it was the 3D but the film looked artificially sharpened, especially at the beginning in comparison to the trailers before it. The film was awesome! Although a little overrated, it's way better than the first two Mad Max films which I'm not a fan of (probably because I didn't see them until recent years). The imagination and creativity that went into the world is incredible. I liked that the enemies weren't just nameless faceless drones. Amazing production design, costumes, cinematography, stunts, and sound. I wish there was some backstory though because I didn't find it emotionally satisfying, and some character/logical aspects were unclear. It feels like plot points were cut out - I think an extended version would improve it a lot. Dialogue was unintelligible at points. Max was the least interesting main character. The music was fantastic but too melodramatic at times. I still had goosebumps walking out of the theater and later thinking about favorite scenes.

85/100

Right with you. Enough of this 3-5 month window BS when it comes to the home video market. A month is all that's needed for the theatrical window. We need FURY ROAD NOW!

I'm still seriously considering this...

Although if I do go it will have to be the 2D version as I hate 3D.

Stop considering. GO. It's worth it. Summer movie season 2015 is officially over. George Miller delivered FURY ROAD. There's nothing else to see this summer except for maybe Pixar's INSIDE OUT.

That't it!

It's a really good action movie. One of the best I've seen in years. If you've even modest interest, go see it in the theater as it plays terrifically on the big screen. Also, and it does sound funny to be saying this for a WB Summer picture, support the film. George Miller has been developing it for over a decade in fits and starts, through cancelled productions, casting changes, format swaps, and wholesale script rewrites.. He chased his dream and made a damn good movie. I'd like to think he could be rewarded for that.

I saw the 2D version, and I had a great time.

If you are even remotely intrigued about Mad Max: Fury Road, then I would encourage you to see it on a big theater screen, just as the above poster said.

The 3D is great, but if you are so dead set against conversions, definitely see the 2D. This movie demands as large a screen as you can see it on.

Actually, there are two scenes in TRW that refer to Max's family. The narrated prologue where they show clips from the first film including Max's family run down, and then later in the film Pappagallo is taunting Max about why he doesn't want to help and saying something like, "Did you lose some family? Is that it, Max??"

In any event, I think Fury Road could have benefited from a similar prologue to maybe give a little background to Max, but maybe that would look cornball these days, although I think the bookends for TRW are still haunting and powerful.

saw it yesterday.

great film but max was the weakest character in the film. barely any introduction, barely any dialogue and no backstory whatsoever. i felt like charlize theron was the main character in this film. max was just there in the background.

good film but i was majorly disapointed with the lack of mad max doing very much.

they could of called it 'Furiosa' as its set in the same world as mad max. lets be honest she was the real star of the film.

if they do a sequel they need to focus on tom hardy way way more
