As long as it's finally a new film scan, I don't really care what the cover looks like. I own about 4 other versions of the movie that can make up for that.

It should be very watchable, you just have to keep in mind that the film is now 40+ years old. Shout are at least doing a new film transfer, which is badly needed, so hopefully it will look better than ever.

It ranks among my favorites as far as horror films are concerned. It gets better with every viewing, and I always watch it at least a couple of times a year around Christmas.

You'll see and/or hear new things in the movie with subsequent viewings. There's a lot of background clues and such that can be found peppered in throughout the film.

I've seen the movie back in 2014 at my local Alamo Drafthouse. They showed a 35mm print of it, which was in pretty bad shape, but wow, the BD that is currently out looks like someone decided to rip the 35mm print apart and glued it back together with some Elmer's Glue and got it everywhere.

This should be the best version released yet.

But don't expect crystal clear HD picture though. The movie has a general softness to it on purpose. Kind in the same way a Christmas Story has a softness to it, which he also directed.

This should be much better than Tyler Perry's version.

Madea Christmas the movie is definitely lesser Perry, and no competition with Black Christmas. The play is a lot of fun (and very different), though.

...I... I had no idea Tyler Perry made a Christmas movie. I thought I was being random.

I'll see myself out.

Well he releases 43 movies a year so obviously! He's the Ryan Murphy of Movies. Just a constant stream of terrible work.

I love that I always get the urge to watch this around Halloween and Christmas. The three female leads are so solid, such a rarity in slasher films (sorry PJ Soles).

I love this film. I'm old, so I actually saw it in the theater first-run...in an inner city grind house theatre with a mostly (ironically?) black audience. The yelling at the screen was absolutely glorious...it was a total blast. The place levitated when Billy's hand grabbed her hair on the stairs! Even at my young age, I knew this was a quality horror film. Especially since the second feature was the god-awful "Race With The Devil".

I had given up on them getting it right on BD, so this is the best news...

And as for the art, the only thing a newbie will glean from the cover is that the killer has groovy 70's hair.

By the way, this will be like the fifth time I've bought the film - but worth it if it's what we all hope it is, the definitive transfer.

Also curious if any of the BC fans know about "The House That Screamed" (1969), a weird but very cool Spanish horror film with a DePalma-esque feel to it that can be seen as a bit of a precursor, another link in the slasher chain from "Psycho" to "Halloween". Highly recommend if you haven't seen it.

Another one I would love to see given a Blu-ray facelift.

Woo-hoo!!

Thanks for letting me know, that's fantastic news. Between Black Christmas, Willard and The House That Screamed, I couldn't be happier.

Go Scream Factory!

Looks like Scream Factory heard the fans on this one and modified the artwork! Pretty awesome of them to do that, and very glad they did. Take a look at the new official art below;

How was it modified? I've never seen this but I heard that the cover spoiled who the killer was. Is that what was changed? (I'm not looking too closely at the cover until confirmed. lol)

Previously his ENTIRE FACE was clearly visible, so yeah, it's a big change.

The previous cover art showed more of the killers face than what was actually shown in the film.
