Check out around 56 seconds of this video made by another UK owner.

It shows that there is no 60Hz option

It's because LG are numpties. The only thing I'd use one of their BD players for is as a doorstop.

Great! Let us know how it handshakes and plays with the LG OLEDs (especially the B6 which I have also). I figure it should be more compatible within the same brand than buying dissimilar brands. Sad to think this train of thought, but it seems these UHD players have their share of glitches etc.

I want to minimize it if I can, as so many others would also.

Please let me know when mine becomes available.
Also, I hope the LG will handshake well with my Samsung KS8000 TV.

Hey Robert, I really hate to be all antsy, but would you say that the following still holds?

Quote:
First allocation availability and sale price is limited to the first 70 orders. Scheduled to ship week of 4/17/17
... and any chance that my Feb 11 pre-order made it into the first allocation?

I got 51 UHD Discs eagerly collecting dust here.

Eyeing this one up as possible next player purchase. Really eager to check out some DV UHD BD on the OLED.

That's a region A player, we'd expect that to output 60hz.

You can see that the US player has 480 options and the European release has 576. It doesn't make sense (to us lot, not Lucky G) why both wouldn't be available.

Okay, providing this is what LG have done is it possible for this to be changed via software update?
I'm not asking if LG will do it, and based on my experience I really don't think they will. I'm just questioning if this is software or hardware related.

I've spent since Friday talking to LG customer support and last night was the first time that I got through to someone that appreciated the 50Hz selection was not disc dependent.

I'm considering exchanging this for the Oppo 203. Does anyone have any experience with this player?

Very strange. I understand why there is no 50Hz on US players because many US TVs don't support it. But I don't think there is any TV in Europe which came out in the last 10 years that doesn't support 60Hz.

Bad news overall for the UK customers .

I expect that this will also be the case for the other European countries (I'm especially interested in the Netherlands). Now I'll have to wait till the player is available here or a review is up. Otherwise, I think I'll go for the Sony. The Oppo still has problems and the Pana's certainly don't have DV (the Sony's might get it).

But maybe LG will come through.....I wanted to buy a UHD player at the end of april, so I still have time to wait and see what happens.

What problems does the Oppo have?
Since it is the only other player that is slated to support Dolby Vision, I was going to ask if I could swap the LG for an Oppo and pay the extra cash.

I've just been on the phone to LG again, and they really are the dumbest bunch of people I have ever spoken to.
They told me that there is no easy way for them to find out if the US machines are a different spec to the UK ones.
I was then told that it's probably an issue with the disc I'm using to try 60Hz playback, and could I tell them what the disc was called.
I'd spelled out the title "Spears and Munsil" for the operator last Friday, and when I told them that they replied that no such disc existed.
I told them that I'd previously spelled the name for them, but somehow they'd written it down as "Spares and Munsen".
They are now going to raise the issue to head office, taking this back to square one.

Well, if you read the Oppo thread or other Oppo threads on the net, you can see there have been problems from the start. Oppo being Oppo will certainly eventually sort all the issues out, but if I buy an expensive player, I just want it to work without too many hassles.

From what I've read it seems Oppo have been relatively quick to try to sort out the problems. I've also had to contact them before regarding a DVD player a few years back and the customer service and technical support are leagues above the support I've got from LG.
I'm concerned that if there are any other issues with the UP970 in the future that LG will not be able to offer any support. So far it's been a shambles.

A bit of information for UK-based people:

I popped into Selfridges in central London today and asked about the LG UP970 (they have a pretty decent tech department). The man tapped on his computer and told me it's not released in the UK for another two weeks, and they have no price listed. When I said that Richer Sounds and similar traders have them, he told me they get grey imports from China. So I went along to Richer Sounds in Bloomsbury and asked if the ones they have in stock are grey imports. The assistant dodged the question with the reply "Umm, don't know, we haven't been told if they are or not."

So I think that speaks for itself. Wait a few weeks, buy a proper UK release version, which probably won't cost the £349 that Richer Sounds etc are charging. My guess is the UK price will be around the £299 mark.

John Lewis have them in stock and I'd be very surprised if they get grey imports from China.
They are also similarly priced at £349
