[Show spoiler]Why not just live by the river? Why not always carry guns if they can kill the monsters? Why not live in the basement? Why not put speakers far away to be triggered from the house instead of fireworks in the middle of the field to distract the monsters. Where did the power come from? Nails don’t point up...and on and on. Probably the biggest one: why have a baby?

[Show spoiler]1. How the f*ck are they going to live by the river when they already had an established home? Making a new home by the river/waterfall was just asking to get you killed by all the labor that is required to construct a home.

2. The guns were only used in case of drastic emergencies. It be a dumb idea to go out in the open and start blasting these creatures.

3. They used the basement as refuge which made sense. They could easily still move around in the house without making a single noise.

4. The speakers idea is just stupid.

5. They were using solar power.

6. They had a baby because it’s human instinct and human nature. They were basically forced to adapt and live in such conditions and things in that nature are inevitable. Also, from a character standpoint they wanted another baby to replace the one they lost early in the film.

In conclusion, those weren’t plot holes. Just logic.

[Show spoiler]It's explained in the movie that the creatures have armor that bullets and other weapons can't penetrate. It's only discovered at the end that the feedback sound causes the armor to move and they can shoot the creature underneath. Once Emily Blunt's character sees that, she's ready to kick some ass!

It just wasn’t for me. As I said, the last 30 was great but the first hour was really slow. Slow is fine but it makes the problems stick out more. I was just too bored for the first hour to watch it again.

Nothing wrong with that. No movie is perfect, and even the greatest movie of all time will also have people who weren't a fan of it.

This is one world (in movie-land that is) that a common cold would prove deadly every time! They found a cure for the common cold alright!

[Show spoiler]Was anyone else grossed out by the design of the monsters? The division of their faces into movable and openable sections that exposed the underlying soft tissue grossed and creeped me out.

Saw it this past weekend. Definitely reminded me of Signs which I loved. It was good. Would I ever watch it again? No. That is my test for a film. I have a problem with mindless faceless aliens that just kill with no explanation.

That's three times someone has mentioned Signs by way of comparison. This movie must be good!

I can see some comparison to Signs, especially unknown creatures and the countryside with cornfields lol. Hope you aren't too disappointed if it doesn't resonate with you that much.

Well I'm hoping for the following: little to no background story for creatures, very much off screen appearance (power of suggestion rules), slow tempo, good performances, isolated feeling, creepy atmosphere.

Definitely an atmospheric film but I didn't find it to be creepy, per se. Almost more of a melancholic feel for me. But otherwise, that list of things you're hoping for is basically a list of things I liked about the movie.

Are you importing Geoff or waiting until August for the UK release? I've had my finger hovering over the purchase button all day on amazon.com - still on the fence. These 4 - 6 week delays on this side of the pond are a pain in my balls.

I think I ordered it at zoom. I can wait, though if an import pops up at a decent price on go peachy or second spin or Mario on eBay then I'll go for that.

As the person who brought up the parallel, I'd add that AQP was better than Signs. But, I liked Signs when it came out.

I saw it at the cinema when it came out, I was 11 and went with my mum and dad. I remember the whole cinema jumped when the
[Show spoiler]alien appeared in the alley at the birthday party
. Also, I could also see the roof of the house across the street from my bedroom window; and for a couple weeks after seeing Signs, I couldn't glance in that direction at night for fear of seeing a certain silhouette.
