Maybe I'll just stick with the individual legacy sets that use regular cases. Still hoping that THE BLACK CAT, THE RAVEN, and THE INVISIBLE RAY get a blu-ray release in my lifetime. And then, once I have bought all these, and only then will Universal start releasing these in 4K and I'll have to start the vicious wallet draining cycle all over again.
If it’s anything like the 2014 DVD set it will simply be the individual Legacy sets and ‘43 Phantom, cases and all, simply placed together in one box with an added booklet.

Don't quote me on that, but the point is that the double disc Blu-ray did have a higher bit rate for both House movies when compared to the triple disc Blu-ray that contained Meets Wolf Man.
Good to know. Thanks.

Yeah that seems to be the list price. It will probably be around $120 at release.

You mentioned the House of Frankenstein/House of Dracula (double) as having larger files sizes then the Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man/House of Frankenstein/House of Dracula (triple) disc, did you by chance verify that? I only ask because that would have required a different encoding for those movies, and many times when something like this happens they keep the same encoding and just use less disk space.
Yes, as I recall, they were like 2gb bigger. Went from around 16gb to 18gb.

I was secretly hoping we would get single discs of Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein and Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, but you're probably right. That would still be so much better than the cardboard sleeves of death. I could live with that legacy bundle.

Thumbs up

I started watching Universal Horror films around 1970, at 12 years of age or so.
I was excited when the VHS tapes started being released in 1991, I had had a VCR since 1979, and now I could share these classics with my then 8 year-old son. I even bought the bulk of them on Halloween night, after trick-or-treating.
I even had to special order Son Of Frankenstein, as Blockbuster didn't keep it in stock.
Fast forward past the DVD upgrades, to 2012, when I got the UK box, saving a few bucks compared to the US.
The announcement of the restoration of the second-tier Frankenstein films, for their 2016 release had me as excited as a kid again, even though I was in reality, a retiree of 3 years.
Now it's 2018, I'm turning 60 this year, and while I have no plans of buying this behemoth of a set ( 14 of 30 just don't interest me personally, leaving the 16 I already have ), I couldn't be prouder that these Classics are continuing on, after 87 years for the two Granddaddys of them all.

Yesterday.

I had the pleasure of moderating a Q&A for a screening of The Black cat at the Chinese with Bella Lugosi JR, Sara Karloff, and Kirk Hammett a few years back.

I'm happy for those who want this, but I won't be buying the new box set. I think the only way I would have picked it up would have been if the remaining CREATURE and INVISIBLE MAN movies were exclusive only to this collection. But since they're going to be released as stand-alone Blu-ray collections (thank you, Universal), I'll just buy those two separately.

What I really, really, really wanted was a larger, all-inclusive box set (I haven't counted the remaining films... maybe a 50-movie set?) which ALSO contains Blu-ray releases of Universal Horrors like: MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE, THE BLACK CAT, THE RAVEN, THE INVISIBLE RAY, BLACK FRIDAY, HORROR ISLAND, MAN MADE MONSTER, THE BLACK CAT (41), CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN, JUNGLE WOMAN, THE JUNGLE CAPTIVE, THE MAD GHOUL, MAD DOCTOR OF MARKET STREET, STRANGE CASE OF DR RX, HOUSE OF HORRORS, etc,,etc,,

It's nice to see all the movies together, and I know some hard core fans will bite and buy, but I'm also going to pick and choose my favorite collections. I'll add the Invisible Man collection and MAY the Creature collection. But this box set is just a little too steep since I already have several of them in other collections.

I think I'm deciding to just pick up the Creature and Invisible Man sets since I have the others already. I was tempted for a minute by what will probably be a thin slipcover and an exclusive 43 Phantom collecting everything in one place, but I'll just keep my first essential set in addition. It has had pride of place for me since I bought it and I still love it.

I would assume not as boxsets usually just have English text.

DD has it for $155. When their next 15% sale comes around, it'll probably be the cheapest route, or very close to it. This set will no doubt get cheap though. I'd expect it to be a regular in Amazon's Black Friday/Cyber Monday lightning deals, etc..

Well, hell. Guess I'll just get the rest of the individuals then. Except I'd miss out on that 48 page book.. They always have to make you think about it...

Does anyone know if this set will include Creature from the Black Lagoon and Revenge of the Creature in Blu-ray 3D like the Creature Legacy set?
