You got me there. I never had the same respect for TV as I do for Movies. Shows come and go, and there are many great ones, but in the end, the movies are what endure for me.

That includes Star Wars. That said, I can wait for Mandalorian, even if it never happens.

How much longer will it remain so cheap?

I think the idea of a subscription sounds too much like a utility bill and it causes some to feel like they're locked into some sort of contract. I think the benefit of streaming services are just the opposite.

I guess what I'm saying is, don't think of streaming replacing physical, think of it as an alternative to high priced cable or a trip to the old video rental store. You have more at your fingertips for less money than at any time before.
To be fair, it's hard not to see streaming as replacing it when that's exactly how studios are treating it. Specifically Disney who barely released their shows before they had a streaming service. Yes, we get some shows produced by WB and CBS has released the Treks and 1 season of Twilight Zone (I'm not counting the s2 BD-R as "real" ), and a few of the non-Amazon produced ones from Prime have been released, but even those aren't all of them. The studios want to basically get money from customers just by clicking upload on their services and then continually make us pay for it each month.

It's not like there's going to be reruns on other TV networks or ending up on your streaming service of choice later to catch up, so if you want to watch it, they're forcing you in some way to subscribe. Yes, Disney+ is just $6.99 now but the more exclusive originals they produce the more they'll raise it to fund them. Plus, unless you're just obsessed with any and every thing Marvel, Star Wars and Disney in general, you're not going to be watching all the shows you're paying for each month and in the long run, you'll be paying more than if you were able to just buy what you want on BD.

Me personally, I watched The Mandalorian but I probably won't watch many of the other Star Wars shows and I'm not going to watch What If either, and once I'm done rewatching the old shows I want then I'll basically only need to subscribe every 5-6 months to watch what I need to catch up on.

The movies released have also been theatrical, as much theatrical as it can be at the moment... none of the D+ exclusive movies have been released, and we're still uncertain about Soul's future.
These upcoming Marvel shows on Disney+ can't be compared with other exclusive Disney+ content or any other regular TV show, as these shows will interact with other upcoming theatrical MCU movies.

Not releasing these shows on DVD/BD may have a negative impact on future box office figures for example.

Also, Marvel/Disney had released in past "Phase boxes" as well as an all-in-one "Infinity-Saga" box (including Universal & Sony produced movies). What will they do in future with "Phase 4"? Releasing an incomplete "Phase 4" box (containing its movies only)?

Slightly off-topic but not really, but I'd love a Netflix Defenders box set honestly, especially since they won't be adding anymore content in the future. Will it happen? Probably not, but that would be something I'd love to own.

Until March.Beginning March 26th, Disney + is raising it's price to $7.99 per month/$79.99 per year.

Which is why I'm finally signing up for a year in the next week or so I can get in under the old price.lol

Not surprised at Feige's comment.Disney had gotten terrible at releasing shows on physical media even before Disney +.

I was always sort of expecting that the Star Wars and Marvel shows wouldn't get disk releases.

I will probably be more irked if they stop releasing Marvel and Star Wars theatrical films to physical. At this time though I'm not really worried about that.

One thing I like about Warner Bros. is that they pretty much release all their DC shows to physical media whether it's a streaming project or not.

Had they been on TV, maybe, but they're on and made for a streaming service you can get any time... and it's Disney who hasn't put a show out on BD since Once Upon A Time ended in 2018 and has while they're not so closely intertwined, they dropped Agents of SHIELD and the Netflix shows which essentially would have been them getting money from something they don't even broadcast themselves, and Runaways and Cloak & Dagger never even got a DVD release. Plus Feige basically thinks since The Mandalorian doesn't get a release these might not, and then goes on to giving us the typical D+ spiel. I want the MCU stuff to be released, but I'm not holding my breath.

Quote:
During an exclusive interview with the man behind the curtain for all things MCU, ComicBook.com posed the question of whether or not WandaVision and other Marvel Studios titles which are hitting Disney+ will ever be available as physical media. "Is Mandalorian on Blu-ray?" Feige responded, honesty asking. The answer is no, the Star Wars spinoff series Mandalorian is not on blu-ray after two seasons. "The truth is, I don't know. That's a good question for which I will look for the answer. I don't know."

Feige was quick to have a laugh with a Disney+ plug to compliment being unable to answer the physical media question: "You can pay a very low fee per month and have access to something that you can put it on your TV whenever you want!"

I’ve already stated that the MCU film canon will obviously have physical disc release while unfortunate it may be for completionist sake, the MCU television series canon will not as it is more or less a Disney+ supplement.

Which is odd because Feige has been very open with saying the shows are going to be just as important as the films.

I feel this time with more creative control, they will be a lot more important.

We will see world building, hints, easter eggs etc that will impact both MCU and Disney plus show.

Wanda Vision is already positioned to launch a mini-saga on the small screen with direct connections and impact to both Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2.

Ms. Marvel is already positioned to give her a role in Captain Marvel 2

Every single Disney Plus show will pull in MCU actors and vice versa.

This isn't Agents of Shield or the netflix show where creative control wasn't with Feige.

Feige is doing what WB is trying to do. Make shows on streaming that are either risker or will not fit on the big screen and link them to the bigger cinematic universe. Or take characters from the cinematic universe to use on streaming.

What I think people are missing is that it's not up to Feige or Marvel, it's up to Disney. If Disney doesn't want to release it, it's not getting released... and Disney barely cares about physical media, as it stands the only things getting released from them are the theatrical films. The D+ shows may tie closely into the MCU, but I could see Disney not wanting to give people the option to buy it and pay once when they can make you pay for it every month that they want to see it.

I'd love to be wrong about it though.

That’s probably because there hasn’t been a Marvel project for awhile.
