Well, on top of casting lighter-skinned actors now, they also cut Cobra Bubbles, the only Black character in the film. Just like Disney cut the one Black character out of Mulan (Mushu) and it's still in question whether or not they'll cut the Black characters out of Hercules, too (The Muses).
Anyway, most of the changes here make me think it'll be as awful as Mulan was and TLM / Peter Pan & Wendy look to be. When you start cutting memorable characters, changing the looks of the main characters, eliminating the music, etc., it's like, why even bother? |

Something like Lady and the Tramp or Aristocats I could understand going to Disney+ but Lilo and Stitch really should be released theatrically.

I totally agree. Lady and the Tramp was really not good and neither was Pinocchio or Hocus Pocus 2 - I had higher hopes for this but my expectations are lower if previous Disney+ fare is anything to go by. Spending money on a big movie and dumping it on streaming is really pointless at this point - I feel like most people who want to be subscribed to Disney+ are already subscribed - how many more new subscribers could this realistically bring in. They are giving up any theatrical money PLUS any money from the physical media release - all to let it languish and die on a streaming service where it will be forgotten about after its first weekend. It’s sad really…

![]() I don't care that much whether they make money on them - the important thing for me is getting a good deal for my money. So the more movies they release direct to streaming, the happier I am. And I am already very, very happy to begin with! ![]() |

I wonder if it would be as bad if Disney flipped it.
Instead of live-action remakes of 2D animated films, they did 2D animated remakes of live action Disney films. Can't lie, I'd be curious to check them out. |

I've always wondered if when the live-action list ends, they'll start swapping the 2D/CG animation styles: 2D Frozen, Tangled, etc. and CG Cinderella, Mermaid, etc. |

[QUOTE=Monterey Jack;21050672]Even when they were brand-new in theaters, I can't recall seeing a single piece of merchandise with the live-action versions of the characters from the Aladdin and Lion King remakes. And you look at Disney merch right now, they still have the familiar, friendly HAND-DRAWN visages of the characters instead of their disturbing live-action/CGI renderings. It proves how utterly disposable these films are, profitable in the short term but utterly forgotten only a few years later. What kid would want to see THIS looking at them from a soft drink cup...?

If it damages the brand going forward, then yes, these are harming Disney's overall image. Now they're known not for quality family entertainment, but terrible REMAKES of quality family entertainment.
