This is like the snap back here against Leslye Headland being picked up for STAR WARS after making one of the best reviewed and award winning shows of the season. Hawley is coming off two top TV shows but nobody on blu-ray.com seems to care because they don’t watch anything actually made for adults.

Hawley is why I'm kind of halfway excited and optimistic about this show. It's just that I'm more curious about what kind of style he'll bring to it and only hoping the storytelling can live up to it.

I think the first three seasons of Fargo were great. It's impressive that he's been able to adapt the tone of the movie and utilize it to tell three compelling seasons (I just wasn't feeling the first episode of season 4 and maybe I'll go back to it later).

Legion I have to admit I struggled with staying on it, and then later dropped off near the beginning of season 2. I still intend to give both seasons another fair chance but it hasn't been a priority. It's just, to me, the surrealism and subversion was the most compelling part but I wasn't feeling attached to it on the story level.

The movie Lucy in the Sky… just felt like another step down toward interesting direction that doesn't quite lift its story.

So I'm really curious what kind of tone and style he'll bring to his Alien show, but I'm cautiously optimistic about how much it will hold up for me once that curiosity is filled.

FX's Alien Series Likely to Bow in 2023

Quote:
Acknowledging that the series is, pun noted, a “beast” to put together (involving as it does much world-building), FX Networks chief John Landgraf shared on Friday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that “We’re well into it,” and that he has “optimism it will roll out in 2023…. It probably will roll out in 2023.”

Hawley himself said in a July Vanity Fair interview that he was aiming to get the cameras rolling in Spring 2022 (once the glut of TV/film productions that were derailed by the pandemic eases up some).

Oh no... They've put politics into a show that's part of a franchise that's already political!

Ridley Scott is "very involved" as a producer in FX's new Alien series

Quote:
Scott, who directed the original film as well as the more modern follow-ups, will also be 'very involved' in the series as a producer.

"So while I think you'll see some inventiveness and originality that is uniquely Noah, I also think the show will feel like a part of the cinematic universe you're familiar with in terms of Aliens," Landgraf says.

The series will be set on earth and will seek to answer what happens when the Xenomorphs can't be contained.

As of June, Hawley says that two scripts have been written so far, with production set to begin in Spring 2022.

Hopefully the show will tie into the prequels and they let Scott make a third one.

It'd be extra sweet if Scott directed the thing, provided that he finishes Kitbag first.

I'm hoping Guy Pearce (as Weyland or a synthetic) shows up.

I'd actually rather see him take it the mini-series route rather than a third film. The films have too many expectations as to what they'll be. I'd love to see him just get six episodes to play around with the world, philosophy, and science, and not force alien on human action in. The alien franchise needs to take different approaches if its going to survive.

RAISED BY WOLVES plays out like they cannibalised whatever script had been written for the COVENANT sequel. Just watch that instead.

First Character Details

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
FX is looking to cast a man in his early 30s, open ethnicity, to play “Hermit.” Hermit is a medic with the Army. The prototype they are looking for is Domhnall Gleeson

FX is also looking to cast a woman of any age and any ethnicity to play “Wendy.” Wendy is Hermit’s brother, but stuck in another person’s body. Until now, Hermit believed his sister was killed in an experiment, but comes to realize that she is in fact in this soldier’s body. They are looking for someone who is well muscled and able to do action. FX is also looking for someone with comedy chops. Danai Gurira is the prototype for this role.-@
