One of the main reasons I decided to start buying UHDs is because I knew I couldn't resist getting this whenever it inevitably got released.

So happy the day has come!

I hope they do it again. The current transfer is not that bad though...

Of course he did not, but Warner did a very good job convincing people otherwise. There’s a Brazilian DVD release that has these exact words written on the back cover “This film is presented in a 4x3 aspect ratio as Kubrick intended”.

I could’t help buying the DVD

I don’t know if it happened in other countries’ releases too.

There's a company (can't remember which) that's releasing a Dog/Bear Man mask for Halloween.

Do we even know who the actors were that played the guy in the bear suit and the man in the tuxedo? I’ve always wondered who they were and why they never got interviewed to maybe give an answer to what Kubrick was thinking when he filmed that scene. Lmao

And don’t tell me it was from the book. I know there was something similar in it. I’m sure Kubrick had a different reason for using it then King did.

Didn’t we get Blade Runner theatrical cut on 4K too? So this completes the trilogy of Warner Bros films on 4K that use footage from The Shining!

Inevitable after 2001 4K but this is very welcome. I doubt they’ll produce anything new for the release - besides perhaps some deluxe packaging and a short book, maybe a steelbook - aside from the transfer(s) and encoding. However I did come across extensive making of footage on YT recently

I believe Room 237 is finally getting a UK BD soon also, although I can’t rate the doc highly besides the incredulity at the insane readings and conspiracy theories. But there’s so much really great literature discussing The Shining that can be found online and in books and it really is its own maze.

Can we expect a BD or 4K of the travesty of the 1997 miniseries too?

EDIT:
Staircase to Nowhere is probably the definitive making of doc, besides the doc by Kubrick’s (then) teenage daughter, Vivian. Maybe WB can license it?

Also, there’s another Kubrick exhibition in London soon running this year! Bet there will be some Shining related material from its production.

Already have the EU cut UK Blu ray and the HMV Premium Collection US cut Blu ray.
Would probably pick the 4K up day 1 if they have both cuts of the film.

Unforgiven, too.

Not that the new BDs are all that great, with highlights being as blown-out as they are.

Well actually he sort of did, any 1:85 film has the whole of the 1:33 frame exposed, & the prints are masked at 1:85. I think it's easy, the ratio shown at the cinema is the correct ratio, in fact 16:9 would suit me, & do away with those tiny black lines top & bottom.

I thought that the film was composed for 1.66:1 like most of his work and had it protected for 1.33:1 and 1.85:1.
