I got blasted when I predicted this in another thread as Anti-Disney and blah blah blah. Disney buying Fox For $72B(!!!) makes no sense. Every Fox movie since has been a bust except F v F and they are no closer to producing any of Fox’s marvel catalogue which will be years away. It was a disaster of a deal in every way, ROI, jobs, and content. Glad I’m not a Disney shareholder.

Also, outside of Pixar, Star Wars ,Avatar and Marvel (which is huge) what do they have? They have just been successful at buying IP.

I know it has happened to other movies as well. It's really annoying. Plus, the quality of a stream compared to a disc is night and day for me.

Even with video games I refuse to go full digital. I do not trust these companies.
They are awfully good at alienating 99% of the people who would want to watch any of their film's made less than 5 year's ago. I'm being generous in saying the average consumer would watch anything that's older than 5 year's.

Gone are the days of VHS rental. When the general population had fairly good film literacy. It's all the studios fault.

They have their animated Classics and Jojo Rabbit is not a bust.

They could do all of these things, in addition to others, and still own the property. They aren't mutually exclusive.
For some properties, yes.

I can totally see Disney wanting to invest in Home Alone and Planet of the Apes for their own use, but I don't see them doing what they should with Alien and Predator. Unless they are willing to allow 20th Century Studios the freedom to control the properties as mature subject matter without over the shoulder censoring, it's better to sell the properties off or else they'll end up neutering them.

Another option, of course, is to retain ownership of the properties and just license them out to other studios. But even with that, I just don't see Disney granting too many liberties with the properties that may impede on their family-oriented values, even if they get paid in the process.

Speaking of which, I wonder if any of this means The Mandalorian will not have a blu-ray release.

@happydood The Mandalorian is the best Disney has down with the Star Wars universe. The sequel trilogy was awful and downright terrible.

$4.99 worth of hot air. You didn't buy a darn thing, just keep that in mind. You leased it cheap.

It's highly unlikely.

@BobbyMcGee That’s the only reason I keep Disney+. As far as a future physical release? Highly unlikely.

Disney Corp. is about as family-oriented as a strip club. They're all about fleecing parents and kids as much as possible. Their modern output, outside of the occasional decent flick from PIXAR and Disney Animation Studios, has been nothing but mass produced Happy Meals with about as much nutritional value.

Yes, but I think they value the idea of a family/kid-friendly audience being where the money is at. Why make something R-rated and eliminate a big percentage of the young audience, when you can make it PG-13 or even PG and make more money with a broader audience?

I would have liked to see John Carter in 4K. I have a soft spot for that movie.

This is one of the biggest reasons I didn't want Disney acquiring Fox's movie catalog. I couldn't give a rat's ass about the X-Men or Fantastic Four in the MCU. The idea that all the classic films owned by Fox will now be buried in Disney's vault is infuriating.

Disney owns a lot of properties besides animated and kids flicks plus a back catalog full of classic gems through Fox.

The main actress in the film is all kinds of fine, but that's about all I can say for that chopped up editing stink fest.

No Country for Old Men was produced by Miramax (no longer held by Disney), Paramount, and Universal. Maybe, just maybe it will see a 4k disc release. Fargo was MGM. Disney allowed that deal to expire without reupping.
