![]() PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Sense controller: the next generation of VR gaming on PS5 Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite revealed for PS VR2 Happy New Year everyone. It is my great pleasure to start off 2022 with news on our next generation virtual reality system for the PS5 console, starting with the official name: PlayStation VR2, and our new VR controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. PlayStation VR2 takes VR gaming to a whole new level, enabling a greater sense of presence and allowing players to escape into game worlds like never before. With the headset on and controllers in hand, players will feel a heightened range of sensations unlike any other – thanks to the creativity of the game worlds being built by our world class developers, and the latest technology incorporated into the hardware. Building upon our innovations from PS5, PlayStation VR2 adds a true next-gen experience with high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking – along with a simplified single-cord setup.
All of these advancements in PlayStation VR2, combined with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers from the PS VR2 Sense controllers, enable players to feel and interact with games in a much more visceral way. PS VR2 will also have a simple setup process — with a single cable connected directly to PS5, you can immediately jump into the VR experience. Today we are also pleased to reveal that one of the biggest exclusive franchises on PlayStation will be coming to PS VR2 – Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite. This original game is being built specifically for PS VR2 and will open the doors for players to go deeper into the world of Horizon. I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s exciting updates. Just remember, this is only a taste of things to come, and I can’t wait to share more details with you about PS VR2. In the meantime, below is the list of official specifications. TLDR; PlayStation VR2 name is official! A lot of the rumors were pretty much dead on:
- Eye-tracking - 110 degree field of view - Foveated rendering - 4K HDR - 'Horizon Call of the Mountain' announced - Controllers are called 'Sense Controller' |

I really wish Sony would release an update that allow us to watch 3D Blu-rays using the VR headset like the PS4 can do. Especially when the PSVR2 comes out. This will give us high resolution Blu-ray playback.

Looks promising. I'll say 2023 Holiday at the earliest. They're showing it off now, but it's going to be awhile. Not this Christmas I bet. Do even enough people have a PS5?
If they can pull off that much detail for Horizon in real time gameplay, that would be something. I can imagine that's more like a CGI test more than actual footage. PS5 already struggles with 4K 60 fps with one camera. PSVR2 requires 2 cameras at the same time for stereo 3D, part of what virtual reality is. No easy task. Yes, and while the old PSVR has a single cord, it's a cord that is about 1" wide, that goes into a little black box attached to the PS4 with about three complicated connections or so. The connection is complicated, so much so that I don't want to mess up my set up already with PS4 just to test PSVR out on PS5 for a slight resolution increase. Plus it gives my PS4 more purpose with PSVR already attached. That would be ideal. I agree. Now is the time to write to Sony to let them know PSVR2 needs a PSVR 3D Blu Ray player support, since PSVR2 is going to be stereo 3D anyway. Sony will NOT add it unless enough people complain I bet. |

I'll wait till the price drops to 199.99 unless it's got a lot of games already for it out of the gate. I'm going to guess $349.99 as the introductory price of PSVR2. $399.99 for the deluxe model I bet.
Biggest challenge of PSVR is that it didn't have enough AAA titles made for it. Some, but not nearly as many as the plentiful indie PSVR games that kept the unit going from 2016 through 2020, until things finally trickled in 2021. I really like 3rd person VR games like Astrobot and Moss. Some first person games are interesting. Way too many shooters for PSVR. Endless puzzle games, and tons of so-so horror games. In each genre, a few hits. My most played PSVR game would be Astrobot Missions. Best game on PSVR for me easily. 10/10. Then Moss 9/10, then a number of others. I have a lot of "just okay" PSVR games though. Reminds me of the Wii's inflow of simpler games for awhile there (even though I didn't own a Wii, I remember it). |

Looks like Sony is truly pulling the stops on this thing. I would agree that 3D support would be welcome because then I no longer have to fear that my 2016 LG Oled is going to die on me.
Where/How do we contact Sony? Although truth be told, I'm close to upgrading my PC and there will probably come an Oculus Quest 2 somewhere down the line. |

I'm actually impressed with the way it sounds, but content is key and developer support needs to be there to help this. If they aren't going to make it BC with PSVR titles, that would be a slightly bad step imo.
I have a ton of PSVR games i redeemed from PS+ i would jump at to try in the interim. |

Impressive specs, but after using a wireless Quest 2, standalone and with PC, it might be hard to get used to being corded again. We shall see. |

So this is called the Playstation VR2 according to Sony, Not the PSVR2. It's PS VR2. So in other words, PSVR2.

What probably might need to happen is each developer take their old, PSVR quality games and remap ALL of the controls and interfaces for the new PSVR2. No other way around it unless Sony created some kind of instant adaptation that switched PSVR games into PSVR2 games, which I doubt. Sony can't even be bothered to add blu ray 3D support for PS5 even though it's going to support PSVR (with adapter for camera currently) and PSVR2, PSVR 1 on PS4 supports blu ray 3D being a stereo 3D headset device. |
