Default Asteroid City (Wes Anderson)

Wes Anderson Set To Direct New Film In March 2021 (EXCLUSIVE)

Quote:
We have learned that Wes Anderson is set to write, direct, and produce a new feature film, which is intended to begin filming in March 2021. Casting has already begun to fill out the lead roles. Plot details are currently unknown but one source has confirmed that it will be a live-action project rather than stop motion animation such as Isle of Dogs or Fantastic Mr. Fox. Anderson’s production company, American Empirical Pictures, will produce the film alongside Indian Paintbrush. Film producers Steven M Rales and Jeremy Dawson will produce the new Anderson film through Indian Paintbrush. It is expected that Searchlight Pictures will pick up the film for distribution.

Wes Anderson’s next film will be The French Dispatch, which follows the staff of a European publication who decide to publish a memorial edition highlighting the three best stories from the last decade: an artist sentenced to life imprisonment, student riots, and a kidnapping resolved by a chef. The all-star cast of The French Dispatch includes Benicio del Toro, Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson. The film was originally intended to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival to later get a wide release on July 24, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was delayed to October 16, 2020 before being delayed indefinitely.

In the likely situation that The French Dispatch is delayed to 2021, there is the possibility of back-to-back Wes Anderson films in 2021 and 2022. The French Dispatch was originally expected to be a strong Oscars contender for 2021 but with COVID-19 delaying the film’s release, it is unknown whether the film will be aiming to enter this year’s awards season. However, given that Searchlight Pictures is already seeing major awards buzz with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, it is likely smarter for the studio to fully push that film for this awards season rather than beginning a new campaign for The French Dispatch. This is especially apparent as Nomadland won both the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and the People’s Choice at TIFF, the first film to do so in history. Recent Golden Lion winners include Joker and Roma while recent People’s Choice winners include Jojo Rabbit and Green Book.

And love it all the same. For me, his films get better as I get older and my favorite of his, is definitely the Grand Budapest which I'll rewatch some time later.

The scene where the priests all ask Gustave the same question was kinda hilarious.

Hailee Steinfeld always looks more or less the same every time you see her, doesn’t mean she ain’t good-looking.

Some ignorant people online always try to shit on Scorsese for apparently always making the same gangster movies (he has only made four proper gangster movies out of 25 films) when instead he has one of the most versatile filmographies ever in cinema history, but they are really quiet about Wes Anderson, or Tarantino, or Nolan for truly always doing the same things over and over again.

One can say this about Yasujiro Ozu, and in fact it’s far more true about him than Anderson, Tarantino, and Nolan.

In short, this is an absolutely stupid criticism.

This site and the internet is full of haters of Nolan that cry and complain about anything he does and act like he's their mortal enemy or someone who did something bad to their lives.

Besides Bay, no one is hated as Nolan by keyboard critics and subjective detractors. Trust me.

Staying on topic, I look forward to this because Wes Anderson is a pretty good director.

Paul Schrader had the following to say about Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City" today on his Facebook page:

I myself saw it at the movies last week. Not sure what to think of it. In particular, I am not sure what it's supposed to say. Is it a story on the power of the screenwriter, who can turn his audience into every direction he likes, whether it ultimately serves the purpose of the story, or not?

I haven't seen the film yet, but to your question, I'm not sure. That said, remember that Alfred Hitchcock filmed a woman answering a phone as seen through a hotel doorway. Watching this from the back of a theatre, as the woman moved around the corner from the door opening, you noticed the entire theatre craning their heads as if to look around the corner.

Did it serve the story? Not sure that it did, but it helped to make the experience for the audience.

I don't know about anywhere else, but it looks like the AMC theaters in St. Louis dropped the movie entirely from their schedule.

Dude, all 25 Scorsese films are exactly the same, they all have narratives, they all have Actors and Actresses, all those thespians in all his films say words…and most annoying is the end credits after each of his movies

Cera’s a bit of a sideways choice, like he seems like he should be an Anderson regular but he’s never cropped up in any of his film and has been relegated to a bit small time player now.

I wonder if this is potentially a bit less controlled and extravagant as Anderson’s more recent films.

The Film Stage: Wes Anderson to Shoot Next Film in Spain This Summer

Quote:
El Pais reports that the director will be staying in Europe, but headed to Spain––specifically Chinchón in southeast Madrid––this July, August, and September to shoot his next movie. Sets are already being built for the production that resemble desert landscapes seen in westerns, though it’s reported that the film will not be in that genre.
