Yeah, but Drunken Master II was only released by WB in Japan and Korea (and I think the English subs were actually dubtitles) because Miramax still had the rights to the US and UK. I hope that they are doing a US release with proper subtitles.

I sat down to watch my HKL DVD of My Lucky Stars this afternoon as it'd been several years and it only dawned on me that Michiko Nishiwaki was in God of Gamblers. It was that icy cold stare in the gambling den and the shake of the dice cup that confirmed things for me. The movie is silly enjoyable fun and I look forward to the BR release!

HK as well. But, it was easily available from many online retailers. True, but, subtitles are better than no subs at all. I find that a lot of times that an English dub track is worse than dubtitles; well, to my ears, anyways. And, to be honest, how many people can actually speak or understand Cantonese or Mandarin that would know if the subs and dubs were off? And, if you knew enough to know then why would you even bother with the English subs anyways? But, as can be witnessed on other threads, even proper subtitles can cause conflict amongst members here due to slight interpretations of the language being subbed. Personally, I think it's a bit silly to go on page after page debating with someone why an English sub was subbed a particular way; not unless you are fluent in the native language and spot someone's misinterpretation. In all honesty, though, I would buy DM II again if it were remastered with a current 4 or 2k master and given more accurate English subs. WB did use an older master for DM II; and, a new master would be best. But, the story is pretty easy to follow even with dubtitles. Of course, this is all my opinion and I do like things to be the best it can be. Think I would prefer getting product from 88 and Eureka as I feel safe in knowing that the people behind it all are at least trying and actually give a sh*t! WB does give me much confidence that they can handle it. Though, I did purchase Pedicab Driver and The Blade from them on dvd, they were using SDH subs. I would love to see either 88 or Eureka get a chance at those. But, still will be more than happy if they continue to release Golden Harvest catalog titles. There are still some major classics that need release. Hoping 2021 is the right year to square some of those away! Like Captain Picard says: "Make it so!"! |

I doubt if 88 Films or Eureka would be able to get their hands on any WB titles. I gather it is extremely expensive to license from them. So it will be WAC or nothing, unfortunately.

Well, if they can try to collect $10,000 for one bonus extra, what would the possibilities be to license a film? Of course, I'm guessing it would be a lot lot more, right? ![]() |
