I consider myself lucky as well. I'd rather someone insulted my dead grandma than be called a Millennial. Fortunately, I'm too old to be mistaken for Gen Z.

It's kind of ironic how Crunchyroll is boasting about how big their catalog is going to be now only to announce around 50 series are leaving. All those shows leaving are licensed by Sentai Filmworks, just like the last time. BTW, Is the Order a Rabbit? S1 is NOT on HIDIVE.
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...titles/.162420

I am curious about Food Wars!. As you may be aware, beginning with S3, Crunchyroll obtained the master license, so I wonder if the first two seasons will reappear. Similarly with Haikyu!!, also beginning with S3, Crunchyroll obtained the master license, and Sentai's license for S1-S2 may have expired as the Blu-rays are OOP and those seasons left HIDIVE 2 years ago.

[Edit]Also not on HIDIVE according to this: Black Bullet, Diabolik Lovers S1, Wolf Girl & Black Prince

Also, recently noticed Asura Cryin' is no longer on Crunchyroll, this being only a few weeks after I finished it. It's on HIDIVE though. CR simulcasted it before Maiden Japan even existed.

Heads up to Crunchyroll non-subscribers:

https://help.crunchyroll.com/hc/en-u...orted-Viewing-

Quote:
Changes to Ad-Supported Viewing

For the Spring 2022 season and future seasonal releases, Crunchyroll will update our offering on simulcast titles by subscription tier. To view new and continuing simulcasts, a premium monthly or annual subscription will be required. With the exception below, we will no longer be offering simulcast episodes one week after release as an ad-supported, free viewing option. For continuing series, ad-supported viewing on any new episodes will not be available in line with the Spring season, however, previously published episodes are still available to all user types.

To introduce our new seasonal simulcasts, we will be offering initial episodes of select titles as part of a “seasonal sampler” for free viewing for a limited time. For the Spring 2022 season, users can watch the first three episodes of these simulcast titles for free with ads:
  • Spy x Family
  • A Couple of Cuckoos
  • Dawn of the Witch
  • Tomodachi Game
  • Skeleton Knight in Another World
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
  • The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody
  • Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs

The first three episodes of these Spring titles will be available for free, ad-supported viewing one week after their subscription-only premiere until 5/31. After this date, all episodes within our seasonal sampler preview will require subscription.

This is quite the interesting move. As of last year, Crunchyroll had 5 million subscribers, and 120 million registered users. In other words, more than 100 million people that are NOT paying subscribers. Being able to watch stuff with ads rather than everything being subscription-only is one of the things that really helped grow Crunchyroll in the first place.

Crunchyroll announced on Tuesday that it has garnered more than five million subscribers and more than 120 million registered users. The service had surpassed four million subscribers and 100 million registered users in February.

Not a good move on their part. People are already grilling them on Twitter over it.

An awful move that will push people away from legal methods of watching shows. Crunchyroll is the worst. This merger never should have been allowed.

Not surprising and very few streaming services offer free subscriptions these days. Crying about it on Twitter isn't going to help. People are so entitled these days it's annoying.

It's impressive how easy it is for Sony to ruin something, they mastered that art. Just wait for the high annual price raises.

I don't simulcasts or stream on crunchyroll, but I do feel for those that do.

5 million subscribers to 120 million registered users is a BIG ratio though. Does Hulu still still offer free streaming for certain content? That's how I watched LOST but that was wayyy back in 2009. I'm sure it's changed a lot since then. I'm surprised any streaming platform has free content in this day and age. Netflix is now cracking down on people piggybacking off users by loaning passwords.

Definitely gonna be a big price hike sometime later this year once they think they've gotten all the Funimation subs moved over. As a former Funimation subscriber they won't be getting me though.

No. Neither does Hidive for their simulcast series.

Hulu ditched the free with ads tier in August 2016 and moved that to Yahoo! View which was just Hulu embeds. Yahoo! View later shut down in June 2019.

Looking back on this corporate garbage quote and...
Quote:
“When we brought Funimation and Crunchyroll together last year, our top priority was to put fans first,” said Colin Decker, CEO of Crunchyroll. “Unifying all of our brands and services under the Crunchyroll brand globally enables us to offer more value than ever before as we combine subs, dubs, simulcasts, library, music, movies, manga—all into one subscription. The new Crunchyroll is the realization of a dream, and we are grateful to the creators of anime and the millions of fans who have joined us in making the community what it is today.”
https://help.crunchyroll.com/hc/en-u...tarting-Today-

Except the fans that were watching for free with ads and didn't pay for a subscription, right?

If it's not broke, don't fix it. This reeks of nothing more than corporate greed. Unless that money's going to pay their translators better (it won't)

Right. Cause server costs and licenses are super cheap these days. Employees don't need money either.

At some point a business can't sustain itself if it caters to the free to play market all the time.

People do realize that Crunchyroll now has to compete with Disney and Netflix for anime right.
