I really liked
[Show spoiler]That Shang-Chi killed his mother's killer. I getting ready to roll my eyes at Shang-Chi saying he couldn't do it.

I found it difficult to believe that he could do that and then manage to be a slacker yuppie. Sociopathic tendencies?

Also seems weird to me how old SC's actor looks. It's like the exact opposite of the Keanu meme...in some shots, he looks even older than Emperor Xi, to whom he bears a rather striking resemblance, even though he is ~36 years younger than his most harmonious majesty

Frankly, he looks way too haggard racially for being just 32 years old. Must be the lifestyle?

I totally got it. If you have a strict upbringing if you turn you usually turn hard

He can be soft-spoken and nice - but don't push him too far!!

[Show spoiler]Shang-Chi starts his training at roughly 5-7 (that's how old he looked) and finished when he was around 14-15. Do you think it's possible to become the undisputed master of Kung-Fu with less than 10 years of training? Not knocking it, maybe they should have started him earlier, 3-4 and finished later, late teens early 20s. To be fair, he did say he trained from sun up to sun down for 10 years.

That does seem like not enough time. Especially since he was slacking comparatively in his training during his time in San Fran. Doesn't seem like he was set up to be the MCU's strongest hand to hand combatant.

Seems to me that the people who stayed in the "evil empire" would have trained for longer and more rigorously than he did, which made the Death Dealer fight more than a little questionable. An assassin who trained SC and has been doing life and death missions while SC was letting himself go soft living the yuppie life at the karaoke bar...

Now, maybe if he were in his late 40s, as he looks to be in some scenes, then I could kinda see it...guy looks older than Jackie Chan did in Rush Hour 3, and Jackie was over 50 then.

It's a
[Show spoiler]comic-book character... no need to look for perfect real-life logic

It's true that we do have a lot of minutiae that we can talk about.... but when it comes to "could a real person do this?", the same answer probably applies to MCU, DCEU, John Wick, 007, Jason Bourne, etc. etc.

None of those guys were slackers for a decade+ and then were not only supposed to beat guys who were the best in the business but also become the best of all time.

Even Thor had to work his way back into fighting form, and he has super powers. Unless we're saying that SC's mom is an alien, he's just a normal dude.

Maybe there's a case to be had for John Wick, but even John Wick lost after he went soft and let his guard down.

You could argue he kept up his training even though he was slacking. My main point is could you learn every form of martial arts in 10 years.

If you're a normal human, no, probably no.

But Shang-Chi and his sister had parents who were endowed with godlike powers at the time. They're practically the children of the gods.

The wall would never be breached so Shang-Chi would never know if his mother is dead or not.

Sure there would be CG, would it be 'relatively grounded with Shang-Chi's dad vs everyone else. What we got was a mess (for me). It was the same with Wonder Woman and to a lesser extent, Black Panther (two movies I absolutely love). I have no idea why the third act of superhero movies has to descend into a CGI fest. Is it in the contract or something?
That's exactly what I was thinking as well. I'm not sure what trailer/feature showed it, but they said the Ten Rings were the most powerful object in the MCU (which unless I was zoned out, was not included in the movie).
[Show spoiler]I expected that to be the epic battle. Father vs Son with the rings showing off how powerful they are along with those great fighting scenes

Other than the billions these movies continue to make, I believe one of the reasons they all end up these CGI battles is because the work on them begins long before the movie actually starts filming so by the time they reach that stage, it's already long past the point of changes. Endgame's final battle was began in 2016 before anyone even started filming.

His father took off the rings when he met his mother and his mother gave up her powers to be with him. While well trained, they were both perfectly mortal during his childhood.

You seem very concerned with his appearance lol. To me, he looks like what he is: a good looking bloke in his early 30s. Have you seen Rush Hour 3 recently?

The real question here is if a few months of doing your best comic book guy impression on the blu-ray forums is enough to start questioning the workout ethic of a fictional valet

He had intensive
[Show spoiler] training, and as with other characters, his skills were kept a mystery to them, being surprised of his identity and skills. So it's possible he was training secretly when not around his family and friends.

Once you are skilled, staying on track won't take constant full effort every day, provided the muscle memory and skill is kept tuned.

Like riding a bicycle, some things are easily picked up even after years of not riding.

There were some flying projectile weapons that had me flinch back in 3D to stay on topic with 3D.

This is a good point, the movie shows him doing some push-ups in the morning before he goes to the Fairmont, so obviously he's trying to stay in shape

Genetics count a lot. We don't all age at the same speed.
Being an athlete doesn't prevent or slows that much aging... it can at some time keep good skin elasticity, but time catches us all.

If Shang Chi were a movie about bicycling, it would be about a child prodigy who spent a decade+ just riding his Peloton at home winning the Tour de France on a whim against professional athletes who had been winning it for years.

For all the complaints about SC's sister being Rey Palpatine 2.0, SC himself is pretty much a Rey as well.

Does some pushups in his spare time is not enough to go toe to toe with Death Dealer.
