The Boss challenge mode remains even if restarting the demo's main mode.
Thanks, I’ll check. I looked at all offensive items in inventory by holding down on D-PAD & didn’t see it.

I’ll check out gear to see if I can find it.

Found how to use gun.

Hold down L2.
R2 to shoot.
Hold down d-pad to select ammo.

Yeah, me

Just like I demand to watch foreign movies in their native language, I have to play a game in its native language.

But I admit it’s harder to read the subtitles while playing a game -

Cool. Yes, it's all ready to go right away. Left trigger to aim, right to fire. I think those are like darts or something.
I tried using it against the Boss challenge and maybe it's designed for something more useful as I fired at the monster with everything and barely made a dent in its overall health, though some blue dot sections depleted. Maybe his magic power or something.

Learning to use those health power ups makes all the difference to survival with the up on the Dpad as I'm learning.

Finally played the demo. I’ll probably still get this, at some point. But why have we reached a point in gaming where every AAA game is a Souls-like? Creativity is so far gone within the industry.

while I completely agree with this point, in what way do you find this Souls-like? is it the respawning enemies?

the importance of parrying, and breaking enemies 'stance' could be similar to Sekiro, I guess

All of the above. Enemies respawn after you ”rest at the bonfire”, which restores your heals also. Its reliance on parrying, staggers, all of it. I just don’t understand why every game feels the need to copy the Souls formula. Arkham Asylum spawned plenty of games borrowing the combat formula from it back in the day, but at least it eventually died off after a few years. A lot of the games releasing these days have been borrowing the Souls formula for a good 7 or 8 years. It’s definitely beyond old, at this point.

but there are also many elements that make it not a souls-like. arguably the only real similarity is the bonfire rest.

we'll know more once the game is out

The main thing that makes it have the Souls Formula is the fact that when fighting the boss, it’s not just about the parry and counter, but it’s about when NOT TO HIT

That crap annoys me.

Since when is hitting any living creature not gonna do damage?!!!

If I’m playing The Last of Us and I hit any of the enemies, it hurts them. Damage is taken. PERIOD!

But in these Souls games, you can hit or shoot an enemy, but it does nothing! That’s crap to me.

The bottom line is, hitting something should take away shield and/or health. It should not matter WHEN you hit somebody/some monster

.

I'm not sure I understand, can you remind me how you do you damage the boss in Stellar Blade? I don't remember it not receiving damage?

the challenge boss has a shield, which has its own health bar that you'd have to break before the boss receives significant damage, although it does receive damage even with the shield on, just not as much. if that's what you're talking about, I'm not sure

also bosses having invincibility windows, and gimmicks before getting damage isn't a Souls thing at all.

Hmmmm
I was informed that it’s not just about parrying and countering, but knowing when NOT to hit.
So that made me think Souls.

I guess I was wrong and simply equating the difficulty with Soulslike.

All I know is that it’s different from the games I normally play

It has more of a reliance on cutscenes, obviously. And there are difficulty settings. However, the core mechanics seem to be fairly close to the Souls-like formula. It is what it is. But I definitely would like to see some games try something new instead of just copying whatever’s deemed currently “popular” in the industry.

I'm waiting for reviews on the main game, and while I think the demo is good and Eve seems like a reliable fighter, I hope the main game includes the ability to skip cutscenes!

I'll be honest, I appreciate that they include a "story mode" easier difficulty, which is still a challenge and requires some timing and skill even so. The regular difficulty amps things up a bit, and takes a lot more skill and practice IMO. Main thing to remember is blocking first, then wait till their random strikes or three strikes are completed, then strike, then jump out of the way/dash of their big charged attack or get hurt.

I could be wrong but I don’t think the game will be too long to complete. By that I’m thinking 15-20 hours.

You are right about pause/skip.

As it is in the demo, you can’t even pause the cutscenes. Also there isn’t any pause function in the game. You’d think options button which takes you to gear page would be pause. Well if you go there & then press the PS Home button on the controller, the game freezes. I believe the same applies to cutscenes if you press the PS Home button, the screen will freeze & music will stop. Seems like a basic thing to have implemented here but no.

Anyway I don’t mind if the game is only 15-20 hours. I just hope they can make a new game plus mode where you can carry over your upgraded EVE for future playthroughs. Since there are tons of outfits in the game, it be nice for replayability.

Well wait. Yes you can skip the cutscenes (on second and consecutive times)

when you encounter a cut scene for the first time, you can not skip it. But when you encounter the same cut scene (after dying and encountering it again) you can skip them (by pressing O)

.

Reminds me of Nier: Automata. Looks really nice. I like the fact that it has a story mode so I can just enjoy the game. I'm sure I'll pick it up down the road somewhere.

Why would you want to skip the cut scenes? They typically advance the story and give more depth to the character and why they're doing x, y or z

Good to hear, thanks. I remember trying it on the 2nd playthrough but couldn't find any way to skip ahead.

Thanks. I get that sense too, that they would have to really pack in a ton of stuff to go through in order to hit a 25 hour estimate as was mentioned. 15 hours seems more realistic for an action game but will be interesting to see.

Yes, game + with all the powers/gear/outfits/upgrades would be good.

Limited free time and, because it's a video game. I want to play a video game more than watch it. Keeping in mind, some great stories are worth watching, while other scenes might be more trivial, such as when a character tells another character to go on a fetch quest. I usually skip those most of all. Nice to have the option to skip to the game.

I'm currently playing Lost Judgement PS5, and that has so much extraneous dialog that I find myself pressing the skip button almost as much as playing the gameplay. Just not enough time to read all that text once I get the idea of it.

The more interesting story elements I will watch though.

I don’t know about skipping on a second playthrough. What I mean is, if you encounter a cut scene, watch it, then die, when you respawn and start prior to that same cutscene, you can hold O and actually skip the cut scene at THAT time. The game knows you watched it already
