Just watched this, looked great on my 60" plasma. Shame about the lack of pop-out but there was certainly enough depth, volume and separation to make it a worthwhile 3D experience. I'm glad I didn't bother watching this in 2D, 3D animation always looks so much better in 3D.

How do you rank the 3D in this among Sing 2 & Minions 2?

It comes in a respectable third, I was expecting far worse. The one shot that really impressed me was the one with the prison wall stretching down.

As promised, I am ready to tell you about my experience with The Bad Guys in 3D. I watched this on Tuesday with pizza. I also wanted to let you know I have now watched all of the 3 pack from Random Space.

Well this is definitely the weakest movie of the trilogy. Sing 2 is great and Minions is good but this one is kind of whatever to me. there's a 0% chance I would have ever watched the movie again without the 3D release. Now when I streamed it months ago I think it was a Wednesday and I watched the whole thing. But on Tuesdays I usually fall asleep during movies. I thought this would probably be ok since it's 3D. But yeah no I still fell asleep several times lol. And since it's 3D I can't stand up or I would have done that because I wanted to see the 3D. So I rewound a few times when I realized I had missed something but there were still at least three like 5-10 minutes stretches where I was just out. I'm not really concerned about it since I've already seen it and it's not that good anyway. I did want to point out that I dislike how flatulence is depicted as green cloud. Monster Family did that too. I have never seen flatulence with a color and I don't need to see a noxious cloud of 3D gas while I'm trying to eat pizza.
[Show spoiler]I thought it was wrong for the guinea pig to release the snake from the helicopter and I felt very bad for the snake in that moment even though he's quite bad, and I'm glad he made it.

After watching the specials, of which I watched all of them in the background while doing other stuff, I think it made me appreciate the movie a little more. It has basically the same kinds of specials as Sing and Minions. And I liked the drawing ones and the push pop tutorials. The table read was pretty cool too as well as the 3 minute heist short.

The 3D was a lot better than I was expecting based on this thread. I thought it was on par with Sing 2, minus the writing errors, but not as strong as Minions. It is medium and medium strong depth with not memorable popouts. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 3D but the movie is so bland to me I can't recommend it for you. Regardless I'm basically getting all 3D these days and especially from Random Space so I am happy to own it even if I wasn't expecting much, and only got a little more than I was expecting lo.

I prefer The Bad Guys simple linear story to Minions RoG which seems to go nowhere in particular which is a shame since the first Minions movie was so good. The 3D in Minions RoG is better than Bad Guys, but again, the first Minions movie blows both of them out of the water.

I definitely preferred the 3D in Bad Guys to Sing 2. The Sing 2 3D glitch was seriously distracting for me. I tried to fix it with the 3D settings on my TV but there’s no fixing that. I rather have solid error free medium 3D than strong 3D with glitches.

I kind of agree with you sadly. I expected a lot more from this movie based on the reviews. It’s not really bad but it’s not that great either. It’s harmless but fairly mediocre, with a plot that is kind of generic while also being a little nonsensical and not really sure what it wanted to say. The emotional notes were clumsy too.

I didn’t hate it, but it also dragged a little, which is not a good look for an animated movie with a short runtime. I’ll give it another go some day, maybe I’ll like it more the second time around, but didn’t live up to expectations for me.

3D was equally mediocre too.

We had a blast with this one. Really enjoyed the visual style and the 3D complimented perfectly.

Agree. One of my all time favorite animated movies. We've watched it several times and like Megamind I enjoy it more with each viewing.
I love the movies from Dreamworks and Illumination

Default Good, Hope It's Region Free

I'm assuming that's The Bad Guys in 3D? That's great if it's being released by another company....

I ordered it on Amazon when I saw Random Space Media closed. I bought one of the last five copies (on Amazon). I hadn't bought Jurassic World Dominion yet so I ordered it also. Minions, Rise of Gru is sold out........ I'll have to watch for it, it's the only Random Space Media release I don't have.

Yes, it's The Bad Guys as well as Jurassic World Dominion and Minions: The Rise of Gru.

I don't think Turbine region lock unless they are forced to and Universal aren't known for region locking either so the odds are good that the discs will be region free.

Thank you! That will make finding Rise of Gru a little simpler! I wonder if the other Random Space Media releases will released by others. I bet a number of people would be interested in Spider-Man No Way Home, especially if not forced to be Region B.

That one is owned by Sony but even if it did come out in Germany it would be Region B.

The Bad Guys and the other two are both Universal titles.

Turbine just announced this title through their newsletter. It's coming out on May 23rd and will have Dolby Atmos for English and German. It's also going to be region free. It will come with a reversible cover with the title in English. Price is 24,95€ or 66,62€ in a bundle with "Jurassic World Dominion" and "Minions".

This along with RoG were the last two 3D releases from RSM. It's cool that they are now being released by Turbine. I had both but sold RoG. Bad Guys is not top tier 3D by any means but it's a fun family movie.

I really enjoyed it and will probably buy it again to support Turbine as they have been very clear that future 3D releases depend on the success of the first three.

I also bought all 3 (again). I really like the packaging on these being reversible (and therefore more English-friendly) and how they are also being labeled as a numbered collector's series. The discount for buying all 3 is also nice. Really seems like Turbine has done all they can to really make these releases as successful as possible even going as far as to include Dolby Atmos on all of them as well as making them region-free. Hopefully more people will support them!

Does Turbine sell their product anywhere else, like JPC, or just from their own website?

I'm not doing that. But to show support I have bought Dominion which is a movie I haven't even bothered to pirate. However I'm a little concerned about having an Atmos track when the 4K disc comes with DTS:x?
