It would probably have to be projection to make it worth it. My spit in the wind ballpark guess would be at normal viewing distance, you would just be able to notice a difference at just under 100 inches. To fully appreciate it, you would need a fifteen to twenty foot screen. Naturally, the bigger the screen, the more reason to sit further back so the edges aren't in Your periphery.

Does anyone knows if this new release will have lossless audio?

I just hope that is a better transfer. I saw the current version yesterday and was not all that impressed. It was DNRed and lacked contrast.

The original disc had DNR, yes. But it had loads of contrast.

Do you guys think a Digibook or a "discs only" edition will be released? I don't want the big box, and I found the old edition for a cheap price... Don't know if I should get it or wait. Is the picture quality nice enough on the old release? Thanks!

There has been a disc only release of every UCE so far, so why shouldn't there be?

I'm not a fan of the huge, "shelf challenged" and lame trinkets sets. I have the current version, which by the way gets a 4.5 by both this site's own reviewer, let alone the average for consumers to this site. If and when a standard case arrives after the UCE and the PQ is noticably better, then I'll get it. The current version is excellent as it is.

The current version is good enough. I love Casablanca, but with literally thousands of good films worthy of blu-ray in the vaults at Warner Bros it really is unfortunate that they are doing this one yet again.

Hey WB: move on to the rest of your library of classics.

I'd agree too if WB didn't overblown the first release with DNR. There's lots of films that need the blu-ray treatment and its a shame Warner rarely licenses their films.

LOL @ "good enough"... yeah, let's not put out GREAT releases that actually look like film instead of a DNR mess, let's be happy with just "good enough".

However, 2 releases of Evil Dead 2 & Predator are somehow okay, and they aren't even classics in the same vein.

Chances are this won't be the last Casablanca Blu-ray release. I wish WB would stop messing around and truly give us the "Ultimate" release (ie. top notch sound and picture quality minus the cardboard extras).

Looks like the numbered sticker on this UCE says it will be limited to 50,000 copies.

Its a shame that WB would rather re-release this title yet again while thousands of other titles remain dead in the vaults awaiting a release. I agree the original was DNR'd to death, but its good enough for me.

Another issue I have is with the swag stuff. If your going to release a swag version release a barebones release at the same time. Don't make people have to wait a year so you can force a few to buy something they otherwise would have passed on.

Since this is warner's crown jewel and one of the most popular films EVER, it deserves the best possible treatment. It is in no way a "shame" this gets proper treatment.

Or we can just stick with all those heavily DNR'd discs like Patton, Evil Dead 2, Predator UCE, etc and just call them "good enough" too.

I fully understand your point. Patton looks like @#$. I simply meant it was good enough for me that I would probably skip this release. As much as I like Casablanca there are thousands of other films yet to see a release and probably never will. That is what I find is a shame.
