I have done all that audyssey setup and still not that great, better but the voices are not that loud. Maybe even lower than the rest of the speakers.

How big is your room? What is your speaker placement? Can you show us a pic of your front stage? Do you have an SPL meter so you can double check your trim levels? How loud are you listening? If you let us know a little more about your room and setup we may be able to assist you better.

Default Video Artifacts with analog upconversion to 1080p

I am having a minor issue with my Denon 1910 upconverting my D*sh DVR box which uses a composite video out. If I try to upconvert to 1080p I get weird artifacts along the edges of the picture but everything is good at 720p. Not really worried about it but was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar issue. Could it be a cable issue?

Will probably upgrade to HD Box soon (definitely before World Cup) with a HDMI out.

What TV?
On my Samsung I had to change it from "just scan" to 16:9 as it wasn't an issue with the Denon but rather the Motorola uVerse IPTV HDMI output.

It's a Panasonic TH-50PZ80U but I don't think it's a TV setting but rather a limitation of the analog D*sh receiver or the cable I'm using. Nothing to stress over though.

hi guys

i have a question about my setup - i am using a Denon 1910 with Monitor audio speakers.. 225hds for left/centre/right rsw12 sub and r90hds for left/right surround

i ran audessy and it set the centre channel at -6db and the rest in or around 0 with the sub at 07db.. the trouble with this is to hear dialog clearly i have to up the centre channel to close to 0.. if i leave it at -6db and up the volume to a point where i can hear dialogue the surrounds are very loud.. its probably the way it should be as it sounds tremendous but just a little to much for every day viewing..

is it usual for the centre channel to be much lower than the surrounds?

Cheers,
Mick

You may have to run Audyssey several times to get it right.Did you run it from 8 positions? Follow this guide:

i ran it 4 times.. which is about all the listening positions in my room... i guess my main question remains.. in general should centre speakers be lower that the left/right/surrounds?

No... If the center is the same distance, brand and ohm as the fronts then they should be pretty close. Mine always comes out within 2db of the fronts after running audyssey

the only difference with my centre is that its horizontal.. whereas the left/right are vertical.. i wonder could that make a difference? i think i'll up the centre to about 2b off the left/right anyway as it seems to make dialog a lot clearer...

You might want to read this sticky down in the "Speakers" section of the audio posts. Thanks to Big Daddy for that but I have a horizontal center channel.

I just checked this morning on my Audessey settings for my 889. Left and right are both set as "Large" with a -3.5 dB offset and the center is set to "Small" with a +1.5 dB offset.

Official new owner of the Denon 1610.

Instructions weren't that hard to understand at all IMO.

Coming from a 2002 HTiB to this baby is absolutely STUNNING! Couldn't be happier. and the Blu-ray addiction has just went into over-drive.

Anyone trying the 5.1 + Front Heights? I've been very pleased with it...DPLIIz...love that we have yet another set of letters to keep in mind.

I haven't tried the 7.1 (with Back Surrounds) yet. After reading some reviews comparing Back Surrounds vs. Front Heights, decided to go with the heights first. I can certainly hear them!!
Are you still happy with the AVR790? I've been reading various discussions on the defective Onkyo 606 trying to figure out what I want to do with mine and saw a couple of people mention getting a Denon AVR790. So, now I'm looking at that as a possible replacement. Any complaints, issues, etc?

if the 790 is close to the 590/1610 but 7.1 instead of 5.1 then the 790 is an AWESOME receiver. I would definitely head to a Best Buy if you can to demo the 1910 in the Magnolia dept which is basically the same thing as the 790.

but if the sound is similar to the 590 which im sure it is.....then its a GREAT receiver.

Just FYI for people out there that are using an older cable/satelite box (that does not have component or HDMI outs) with a Denon 1910/790. The upconversion from 480i to 1080/720p is very poor. The information is in the mammoth 1910/790 thread at AVS and I've tested it out for myself. My PZ80U does a much better job. I don't know how good the upconversion of 480i is when connected with either component or HDMI cables but I am assuming it's much better.

Hey guys, I really wanted to ask your opinions. I have always bought Harmon Kardon but today at work I had a deal which I think, I would have been stupid to pass up. Let me know what you guys think.

I bought a brand new Denon AVR-890 for 380$. Now I think no matter, the money is a good deal but I need to know. I know it's already an upgrade because I currently don't have DTS-MA and Dobly True HD, which this receiver has, but I also don't want to buy another one for a while. Should I keep my 380$ and wait to buy something else or is this more than enough for a long time? I know there's always better but taking everything into consideration

Is it a good amp?

Thanks guys
