That is under license by KINO not Criterion. but nothing yet, just what they mentioned last year about new footage so they wanted to delay their BD release until they could put it out with the new footage included.

Thanks. I must have gotten my wires crossed...I had thought Criterion was involved. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.

OT, but it was 25% off last time (in November), but their blu-ray prices are horrific for the most part. The Criterions seem to be $32.60, so they'd still be $24.45 after 25% off. 400 Blows and Last Emperor are already cheaper than that at Amazon, just as an example.

400 Blows. Yeah. The best Truffaut film IMO.

The special edition of The Rock was the same; it was the Criterion release in all but name.

Yea! "El Norte" just arrived in my mailbox!

Criterion has A+ #1 shipping in my book, considering I placed the order tuesday night!

Hopefully they'll get the pre-order issue worked out on they're website so I can just order directly from there from now on. They're priceing is pretty competative. 20% daily discount, then for every $500 you spend you get a $50 Gift Code. Basically works out to 30% off if you think about it. (Spend $500 and get 10% back as a gift card)
Plus, as CCfix stated eariler in this thread if you pre-order title (which for now you can't ) they ship them out a couple weeks before the release date!

The rights to The Rock reverted to Disney, who then acquired the rights to the Criterion supplements, basically. At least that's what I recall -- this has been extensively discussed here at the time.

And I'm not sure, but Life of Brian seems to be somewhat of a similar story.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow is the day they announce the new titles!

Waiting for my first Criterion BD--The Man Who Fell to Earth. It's been shippped so can't wait. The cost for these is nearly prohibitive as far as I'm concerned. I got this one free through Buy.com from accumulated points. That's pretty much how I obtain premium titles. Would like The Last Emperor and The Last Metro next.

The first three have been on sale in December for something like $23, and it helps to wait for a bargain on them. Also, some are cheaper than the others -- like The Last Emperor or 400 Blows. And it always helps to put them on your Amazon wishlist, as they will appear in your Gold Box deals soon enough.

You're going to love Criterion Blu-rays.

Yes, it is. It is even an upgrade over the French MK2 BD release. Contrast and clarity are notably improved and so is, obviously, detail. This is one of the all time greatest films, so, in my opinion, investing in the best version available on the market should be very easy to justify.

I was already convinced. But with the MK2 version, review on the image was average. I thought it was the same master. Thank you for the answer

Purchase is insured. Perhaps a purchase doubled with Le dernier Métro.

Have the Antoine Doinel cycle in Blu-Ray would be a must.

I really don't think they're all that badly priced. When I first heard about Criterion making BD's I figured they'd be in the $40-50 range. But all the ones I've seen at stores are $30 or less, which in some cases is cheaper than the SD counterpart.

I really hope they give Rushmore and the Kirosawa movies the treatment soon.

Now, if only Kino would jump on the BD bandwagon. . .

The only movie i want and i'm interested in to have a Criterion Collection Edition Blu-ray would be Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

Any word or idea on when this will be released on Blu-ray?

Your guess is as good as anybody's. Stay tuned to their site today and every fifteenth of the month (usually, if it's not on weekends) to see which new BD titles are announced.

But only Fear and Loathing? With that catalogue of theirs? F&L is an excellent film, but surely you could find other Criterions to your liking.
