DLS 222,

Your setup is sick to say the least.

It's funny, I actually upgraded my Monitor 11's and CC390 after a month of use as well. It seems you had them for about 3 months or so? I wasn't able to get the Studio 100s (WAF) but I did get the Studio 60s with the CC690 (Still WAF).

Don't get me wrong...the Monitor 11s were incredible and I loved the CC390. You definetely get a bang for your buck on the Monitor Series. Although, I just had that feeling that it wasn't going to be very long until I had that itch to upgrade and I knew the Studio series was going to be my next choice anyway. Not only for the sound (and I don't usually get speakers based on their design) but I really liked the cabinet work of the Studios vs. the Monitors. Gorgeous looking.

So I get the 60s in a few days...can't wait. At least now I know that they will last me for awhile. I hope.

Thanks!

I'm sure you will be real happy with the Studio setup! I am no longer looking for more like I was after owning the Monitors - just for little things I can do to get the most out of the Studios. And I agree the Monitors are up there for their price point but if you can get the Studios it is worth the upgrade for sure and probably still near the top of it's price range like the Monitors. I'm sure this purchase will last you a long time. I just listened to the Sig6's and though they do sound VERY nice, I didn't have that feeling that I had after hearing the Studios when I owned the Monitor 11's. I've had them for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier they just seem to sound even better with time - can't wait to test out the new cables and hook up the Studio 40's.
Be sure to post your thoughts and pics of the new setup! Congrats man!

I was in the City and decided to go check out a local dealer and finally got a chance to demo the Sig series(S6's) and WOW did they sound nice!! I also got to hear B&W 803D's for the first time as well.. they are Amazing speakers!!!
Back on topic - I went in initially to go check out Studio 10's, 20's and ADP-590's since this place actually has them in store - not like they place by where I live you can only special order Studios. Right at the exit of the show room I saw the last pair-unopened boxes of Studio 40's on clearance for $999cdn - $40 more than what they were selling v5 Studio 10's!
It was an impulse buy but it was the last one! I didn't even listen to them which you could say is not a good idea but it is only for my surrounds and they are matched with the v5's so I pulled the trigger. I wish it was Black to match the rest of my setup and room but I don't think it'll bother me too much. Even though they were on clearance, they still said I can get a full refund if I change my mind within 30 days... I most likely will end o keeping them though.
I ended up taking the Rosenuts back.... Only because I went to another shop to check out some Monitor Audios, which really sound amazing.. especially for their price - I actually liked them(RS6/8's) better than the Paradigm Monitor 11's(which I used to own). They are very different sounding - side my side It really stands out how loud and forward sounding the Paradigms are, which were really good for movies but the MA's were very smooth sounding and more detailed in music and those RS6's can give out some really good bass for a smaller speaker. It was a very quick demo but enough for me to tell a difference. Of course I still prefer my Studio's but that is different altogether. Jason if you're reading this - you got some great speakers my friend!! They look even better than they do in pictures too!!

Back to my speakers - last week I picked up the last pair of Studio 40's(Rosenut) for $999 cuz they were the last pair and also bought a pair of S-22 stands for $150 to go with them. I told the rep at the store I went to today that I wish I got black since It would just go better but they don't have them anywhere.... The guy went upstairs quickly and brought down a Studio 40 box with black checked on the side and had the other one waiting upstairs if I wanted it(also their last pair). He offered the same price as the other store + free J-23 stands!! I jumped on that quick and returned the other pair right after. So now i am even happier - got the matching speakers and much more solid and better looking stands and $170 back in my pocket!!!

Thanks DLS, I thought you might walk away with an impression similar to mine. For the cost, they are tough to beat. I like the Studios as well! Slightly different price bracket, but I get what you are saying.

Oh, and congrats on the speakers!

Thanks man.. finally hooked them up last night and listened to some multi ch SACD tracks and man does it sound good!!! Just watched I AM LEGEND for the third time now too since with each major change I've used that movie for comparison from the Polks - to the Paradigm Monitors and XPA-3 - and now to the Studio setup with with the oppo BDP and the front speakers bi-wired, finally switched out from Monoprice speaker wire. It has never sounded better!! I doubt the speaker cable had much to do with it and most of the improvement probably from the oppo and the Studios.

Added a couple of pics of the latest stuff to the gallery.

Well about 1 month ago my PW-2200 died, last week i finally took it into my local deal to take a look and we determined the amp was gone, looking at the warrenty the amp is covered for 3 years my sub is just over 4 years old so i asked how much do you think it will cost to replace, he didn't have any idea but estimated around $150, well i got a call today and he told me that Paradigm was doing me a real favor and will replace the amp under warranty and it would have cost me $700, i just wanted to say how good the Paradigm customer service is i can't see to many speaker companies doing this over 1 year past warranty, i have never had any real issues with my speakers but it's very nice to know when i do i will be covered.

Wow.. thats unheard of with todays' economic climate for any company.

So far the best customer service I've ever dealt with for any type of service. From a super quick speaker replacement to a personal callback just to tell me they finished building my CC-690 and would be shipping the next day. Even my dealer was surprised that they called me personally. I don't think I'll ever have a problem with my speakers but I am glad if anything were to happen that this is the company I'm dealing with!

You guys have me second guessing myself now....

I got a bonus coming up in August that I was planning on spending on a new front stage. I was going to go with the following, new and prices in Canadian:
Monitor 9s- $850
cc-390- $599

Now after reading the last few pages of posts it has me thinking I should go with the Studio series... How much more would I be looking at to go with the Studio 100s and comparable monster centre?

Default What's Next?

Hi guys,

Now that I have recently purchased and am enjoying the Studio 60's, what do you think would be my next upgrade to compliment them?

1) New Sub...thinking the SVS PB13-Ultra? My current Sub is the Paradigm Cinema 110 CT. It does the job but I heard that a good Sub makes a huge difference in the HT experience.

2) New Receiver...my Paradigm dealer told me that the weakest spot of my system was my Yamaha RX-V1600. Recomended the Arcam AVR600. (I wish...a bit pricey for me though). For now my PS3 can decode all the latest HD.

3) Power Amp...thinking the Emotiva XPA-3?

I mainly use the system for HT. Any thoughts?

Hey master8ball,

If you were interested in the Studio line, you might want to listen to the S20s as well. A bit more than than the M9s, a lot less than the S100s.

I had the M11s V6 for about a month and I was ready to move up to the Studio line. I just had this regret that I didn't pull the trigger on the S60s. Wanted to save money.

Eventually you can move up to the S100s and stick the S20s in the back.

Hope this helps. I'm not a Paradigm expert at all so the pros here will probably give you better advise...but I do know that the leap from Monitor to Studio is well worth the money. I did it.

I would go with an amp. Then upgrade the Sub later.

It's a big price jump your looking $3000 for the s100's cdn price and for the 590 it's around $1000 give or take, if you have the cash i would go with the studio line, don't get me wrong the monitor series are excellent speakers and i use them but the studio's are superior in every way and are a whole other class of speaker. My suggestion is, if you want to stay in the same price range for the monitor series i would go with 3 studio 20's for the fronts, they outperform the monitor 9's in low end and clarity, the only down fall is you need stands, this is my plan for the near future, i have auditioned this setup at my local shop, after getting them to hook this configuration up for me and man was i impressed on how good the 20's sounded for a center speaker, the same 3 speakers up front created an incredible sound stage with perfect timber matched speakers, might be an option you haven't considered.

Does anyone know whether or not any of the Paradigm surround speakers (preferably the ADP-590s) have two pairs of input terminals? I know that the CC-690 (centre channel speakers) does, but was wondering about the surrounds. Thanks.

Thanks for the input Twitch... sounds like you know your stuff...

I think if I do go with a new front stage I will still stick with the Monitors... mainly for price reason, but I also like the look of big speakers up front. I listened to the 9s and loved them (the shop doesnt carry the 11's but can order them) so I think I will be more than happy with them, as long as I don't demo the studios anytime soon! I think mid range in speaker quality at this point of my life is more than good enough... A new TV might be on the horizon as well and trying to save for a house too... I figure if I go with the studio 20's now I will just be looking to spend more on the centre and 100s in the next few years...

You will be very happy with the monitor 9's they are great speakers and IMO for the price can't be beat. Post pics when you get them all hooked up.

Just wanted to add on to this post of mine, so i brought my sub home and noticed a rattle sound in the sub, i did a sweep on it and found around 27 hz the speaker sounded funny, so i took it back in and they replace speaker and crossover basically making it a brand new sub except for the enclosure, all this was done for free after the warranty had expired on my sub, i just wanted to say thanks to Paradigm for the great service. I now have the sub home and it sounds amazing, Paradigm has now extended the warranty on all the parts they replace for 3 more years, the best customer service i have ever received for anything i have owned.

Default Speaker Buzz...

When ever I power down my system, I turn off the TV, BD player and put the AVR on standby. I noticed that there was a faint buzzing/humming coming from my Monitor 9 speakers. It is not a loud noise, and I need to put my ear to the speaker to hear it, but I was wondering if this is something to be concerned about. If I shut off my power center, the buzzing stops.

Do you guys leave your power center on or shut it down as a part of your shut-down procedure? Is there anything wrong with shutting down the power center? Am I wasting electricity by keeping it on? Obviously, some power is being used to create that slight buzz/hum.

Ultimately, I want to know how many of you turn the PowerCenter off when shutting down your system?
