So the first two Transporters are $10? Any other eligible titles $10?

spaceballs may be part of the go green trade in promo, but NOWAY is it going to be $9.99. its far too new and having said thast, out of time w/ denzel came out last week (a fox title) but when i went in, it didnt have the go green sticker on it so you may have a tough time getting them to even do the trade-in for spaceballs for ya.

I tried this in the Square One location and they told me that the $9.99 titles were removed from the list and they outright refused the promotion... Went to the manager and he stated the same. WTF?!? Does anyone know if this is the case?

That is right. HQ told the stores to remove them. That is the way it is. Their policy. Don't like it? Then don't shop there. These retailers have always done what they want. It is the reason I cannot be bothered with these "deals" as they change all the time.

They're not removed form the list (proof here), but you have to pick up the ones with the "go blu" green & blue sticker on them. For the trade-in most are still priced at 2 for 30, so rather than pay $9.99, you'll get it for $7.99 each. Their official reason (or at least the one they gave me) is that the ones that are labeled $9.99 are of their own numbered inventory, so you're not allowed to combine the two offers. That's why you won't find any of the $9.99 ones with a trade-in sticker on them.

A few in here got away with it at the start of the sale because the staff didn't know or didn't care, so YMMV.

That's not really proof because their website is never updated correctly. The how it work links still shows a PDF with the old end date. What you can use it for though is argument if they deny you.

For now, we can assume they have been informed that any titles scanning 9.99, deny the offer.

I am gonna check out Spaceballs on Tuesday.

well you know what, there is no movie in the world that retailers can buy from the distributors for $2.99 (let alone a blu title) so for them to sell hundreds of copies to us at that price is rediculous, theyd take a HUGE loss. it just makes sense that those titles wouldnt be part of the deal. i didnt think anything of it at the time, but when i came back home yesterday and started reading thru the posts n stuff it only semed logical to me that it shouldnt have been part of the promo cuz the deal i got was too good to be true. but whatever... it was good while it lasted and i'm glad i got it. not gonna hold anything against them for not making it part of the deal cuz their just trying to save from taking huge losses. thats fair, and even sticking with their current promos the way they were, how can anybody complain about getting blus for $7.99 brand new! i certainly cant. just my two cents.

I completely agree.. I was satisfied getting both Transporters for $7.99 when they were 2 for $30. At $2.99 that's a steal.. you probably can't even get the DVD versions at that price.

They are doing a good deed by donating all these DVD's, but at the same time they are a business and during these tough times I doubt they'd be willing to take a huge loss for a good cause.

there are movies they can get for 2.99. Walmart isn't selling at a loss when theysell a dvd for 1.99 or 1.00 (usually). Now if your talking mainstream titles...in most cases sure...there are exceptions of course and usually its older titles

i found out how futureshop works a while back...when there is a price match because a title is on sale somewhere else they actually get money back from the distributor as long as the sale was done by the distributor (or something to that effect). perhaps thats not the case everything though...the more sales i'm sure the less they pay. either that or the guy was full of it when he explained it to me...not sure why he did that as he had no problems beating the price by 10% of the difference

Anyone know if Predator 2 is part of the deal? Should be as it is a Fox title. Wondering if anyone has picked it up with the $7 off?

Thanks

Sale now extended to July 31st...

Canadians exchanged more than 6,000 old DVDs for discounts on Blu-ray Discs from Twentieth Century Fox and MGM Home Entertainment at HMV stores nationally with the Go Green with Blu program. This national program is designed to find homes for old DVD at children’s hospitals and public libraries while keeping used DVDs out of landfills.

The month-long Go Green with Blu campaign was originally scheduled to conclude on May 31st but will continue until July 31st because of its surging popularity. Anyone can trade old DVDs for a $7 discount off each purchase of almost 250 Twentieth Century Fox and MGM Blu-ray Disc titles.

According to a recent report published by the NPD Group, a leading market research company, Blu-ray Disc technology is moving further into the US mainstream. In March, the report revealed that sales of Blu-ray players increased by 72% over the same time period last year.

Over the next two months, HMV will expand the program with day-long 10/10/10 incentives and specials that will be promoted through the Twitter ID. On specially promoted days, customers that exchange 10 used DVDs and purchase 10 Blu-ray Discs will receive a bonus $10 HMV gift card in addition to a $70 discount off their total purchase price.

Sweet. That is good news. It would be even better if they started updating their list. Spaceballs is approaching.

I think HMV is smart though. There are no true outstanding blu-rays by Fox/MGM that people don't already own or can't get it the low price of 9.99. If they include the heavy hitters like Warner, Sony, Paramount or Universal, they would get way more than 6000 DVDs.

I don't think HMV is adding anything to the initial list of titles on their website. I go there regularly to try to trade in for new Fox/MGM titles, and they've never acknowledged them as a part of the promotion. I tried to trade for The Siege and Predator 2 this way today, and no go. I didn't bother protesting or asking management; the employees seem to know less about this deal than we do

I think for most people its YMMV. Some HMVs are ran by smarter people while some others are ran by idiots. I will let people know what my HMV says about Spaceballs. If anything I'm close to like 4 others so I can fish around and see who bites.

probably depends who you catch...

S. Darko wasnt part of the initial list and I got it for 7.00 off. Maybe the guy mistook D. Darko for it...(i went to the guy and i said i'm pretty sure this is part of the sale but doesn't have a sticker...he looked it up and agreed).

As far as i knew the sale is all MGM/Fox titles...which means Predator 2 should be part of it too

Someone mentioned the promotion continues until end of July and in the same quote it mentions there are over 250 titles...thats well over the initial numbers (which was around 100 blu-rays)
