This should have been the Blu-ray version to match the DVD's.

Man that review has me so excited. I'm beyond thrilled that they improved the bass with this release and the screenshots look incredible.

Wait... last night the Amazon 2D blu-ray was $19.96, today its back to $24.99... I placed a pre-order months ago at the $24.99 price, so will I get it at the $19.96 price? Why the hell did it jump back up after less than a day?

I'm waiting to see if my preorder gets adjusted as well. I should have taken a screen cap of that last night just in case

yeah I noticed that too - glad I was able to buy it at it's lower price AND use 10 bucks in accrued Amazon points. $10 for this, not bad.

Are the statues made by the same company that made the ones for LOTR? If so and if anyone has the LOTR statues, are they good quality?

The Amazon page states that they're made by WETA, and I think Sideshow partnered with WETA to make the statues from the LOTR DVD sets. The bottom of all of my statues say Sideshow WETA on them I believe.

The statues from the LOTR sets are of incredible quality in my opinion, albeit small. They're up to the same standards as the far more expensive sculptures that Sideshow/WETA make for LOTR and the Hobbit. I'd fully expect to pay far more than the price of the DVD set for just the statue if I saw them outside of it, compared to what other statues from Sideshow and WETA cost.

Yes, if you have something preordered and it goes down in price, you will automatically received the lowest price even if the price goes back up. Even if the price goes down for one minute, you'll get that price, so it's best to preorder early if you're getting something on release day. I've preordered hundreds of items and never had a problem.

This guy is full of it. ^

You will not get the lowest price. If you order something on Amazon, they will automatically charge you the highest price that it was ever listed on at their site. Furthermore, if you try to contact Amazon, you will get a full-articulated English speaking representative that will try everything in their power to NOT give you what you are asking for. This applies double if they see you have commented on a Blu-Ray message board asking if there is a way for you to get a lower price.

With Amazon being such an un-established, fly by night, company that has only been around for the past 6 months, I am surprised how many questions still are asked about their pre-order policy. They are only out there to create one time customers that never want you to return so they will not help you at all and they will charge you the highest price they possibly can.

Agreed. I would've loved if they kept this for the blu-rays.

Hell, I would've loved if they released the LOTR blu-rays the same way they released the DVDs. Much better looking than what we got.

Nice. Where can I return my defective TE copy and get my money back! That is not a small difference below 40hz. Look how much more level we get at 30hz and especially 20hz. This is total BS. Guess I can just ebay my TE. I don't even care for the film that much and to hear the EE has an even LONGER Goblin Town section? Sounds horrible. It's the principle of the matter though. Why did all that extension get cut out in the TE?

Great for the EE buyers, but everyone who spent hard earned cash on the TE got screwed as far as the low end portion of the audio goes if you have a sub that can hit hard to at least 20hz.

I would love to know what exactly happened to the TE though which I am sure we probably never will. Mistake? Intentional? Did they reduce the LFE filter on the EE due to the small but vocal bunch of bass heads who considered the TE one of the most disappointing low end experiences on blu? I would love to know, but sadly I doubt we ever will. Oh well, just glad I did not like the film more I suppose.

One question maybe Ken or someone else who has watched it can answer is does the anemic Stone Giant scene now have proper low end weight with the better bass track or not? This was the worst offender in the TE as far as the filter and I would hope this better extending EE made this scene (among others) more convincing (?).

soo now that the steelbook has been confirmed for best buy (link), does anyone know if it's like the futureshop one in that it just includes only the two 3d discs and not the additional two discs in the regular extended 3d edition? not really wanting to pay what amounts to another $20 to pick up the non-3d extended just to get the additional three discs, if that's the case..triple dipping on the initial release wasn't one of my better decisions, although i did manage to ebay the extra two copies while keeping the exclusive discs.

Wife just calls me to tell me that her parents are coming to stay with us next Tuesday for a week. I will not be able to watch this until the following Tuesday unless I want to watch it at a low volume. In other words, no. Damn it. Could they have picked a worse time to come?

Yep. Especially without some sort of smiley like Geoff D said.

It's the 3D movie only (split to 2 discs), plus the 2 bonus discs.
