yeah i know but its not a real fast travel system, if you're in the wilderness then you're stuck. my horse was stuck on top of a mountain in the grizzlies and I had to treck it to valentine on foot through snow because I wouldn't leave my perfect elk pelt behind. I don't mind it but I know others do.

I think if you set up camp, your horse will automatically join you and when you tear it down the horse will be ready to go.

Tonight I shot my Arabian horse. I was fully Bonded with the horse but the horse kept on kicking me off and running away when danger was around or if I got in a gun fight and it would never come to me when I would call forso I got tired of it and blew its head off with my double barrel shot gun. That was the only horse I ever had problems with.

The X button I believe is the "restart at last checkpoint", which is the closest thing to not having to start everything over (square button I believe).
But some mission checkpoints do start you a ways back.

Even though this could be my favorite game now I get what you mean about the missions always turning into shoot outs. Like no plan ever goes right in the story, never. Dutch almost becomes a self parody "ONE LAST BIG SCORE" "HAVE SOME GOD DAMN FAITH"
[Show spoiler]even though every camp member is getting slaughtered every heist. I love that guy.
Good point about Dutch and "One last score! We need the money!" That was possibly unintentional humor by Rockstar, but it was amusing. I totally understood why Arthur
[Show spoiler]felt jaded by it all. I'm still picturing Arthur, looking up at the sky as Dutch
[Show spoiler]walks away
on the mountain rocks... I still have to find out what happens with John vs Dutch in Epilogue 2.

Rockstar isn't afraid to break tradition or expectations, that is true. But I am relieved they finally added a toggle button for the X run button while also holding both analog sticks. That makes running and gunning much easier now, compared to GTAIV. GTAV was slightly better. RDR1, John would thankfully jog with his weapon. RDR2, even better, as you can jog without a weapon, instead of just walking all the time. I miss the pressure to the analog to go from a walk to a full run, which is something Rockstar is clearly against in their games for some reason. I'm not sure why.

Get past the snow season, and endure the early spring, and it gets much better once you open up the free roam. You'll know because you'll be at the first camp ground. Hang in there with it if you enjoyed RDR1.

While I didn't shoot, I do have a war horse who was fully bonded, but kept running into trees instead of avoiding them (my fault, I know ), and then it wasn't very loyal either, and I fed it, petted it, and brushed it often. Oh well. Sometimes I'll just hop off and jog to my next location.

Went to go hunt the legendary bear and my sorry ass got Dicaprio'd . . . but I survived and killed the sonuva*****. I gotta say, what a missed opportunity to not get a bear fur coat out of it like the one that Flaco Hernandez had.

Finished chapter 4

Am interested in where this is gonna go.

Tons of optional side quests I did in between main story missions. Safe to say that’s the downfall with this game. It crushes the immersion you get with any SP story driven game. It doesn’t matter open world or not. Pacing is a glaring problem.

If I were at the helm, I wouldn’t have side quests unlocked until main story is done in its entirety.

The level of detail in “other” side mission open world RPG games doesn’t at all match the quality of the main story presentation when directly compared. The closest company to achieve this was CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 3 but with more cut-scenes as opposed to on the fly dialogue within gameplay.

You can appreciate what RS has done here. For me, it has slowed the game down to a snails pace. For others who stick to the main Story, I’d wager they have not run into the drastic pacing issues as I have.

I’m basically saying I’d rather the game be an A-B adventure instead of an A-etc-B one.

I know what you mean. The story seems very unfocused that way and maybe even lost in this giant open world with, what seems like, infinite side quests.

But the side quests are optional. If you want to maintain a steady pace then stick to SP missions only, perhaps with the sporadic side mission

How do you spot side quest and story missions exactly? How can you tell the difference?

Side quests are white dots with strangers, or bounties etc, which have their own icons.
Story missions are usually the persons initials

White markers/blobs on map are sides & there are micro-side quests as well that randomly generate as you explore.

Yellow markers on map are main story missions.

So you could actually just do all the yellow/story ones, and not do a single side quest, if you just wish to experience to story without interruption? Is that correct?

Will I be able to do all the side missions once I've finished the story? Or do I have to start a new game? Last question, I swear lol.
