Now my whole point is that the 4k does not keep this quality through the whole movie like BACK TO THE FUTURE 4k which 100% does. Both movies are from 1985. Again it has to do with who ever is doing the color transfer.
So what I'm hearing is "Whoops! I guess using BOYZ IN THE HOOD as a defense didn't help my case."

It wasn't till THE COLOR PURPLE hit VHS in widescreen that people began to know about widescreen. Because of black bars on square tvs'.
But you didn't say "color", you said it looked "just like" it did in theaters, period. It did not. (And for the record, the color did not either.)

And RCA videodiscs were letterboxed before The Color Purple.

Yeah, it looked worse in the theater, since release prints for 4 generations removed form the negative. That's why the 4K looks much better and exactly how it should look, much more than it would look in the theater with 4 generations of image loss.

No, I said dvd looks better than bluray and 4k overall.
There is 20 minutes on 4k that look great but that's it.
So overall I would take the dvd I had.

Color and looking like it did at theater is what I meant.

I liked the transfer of First Blood a lot. Only when Stallone is in the mine shaft and there is a fire source nearby, did I feel the black areas where grey rather than pitch black. Is that normal? Or is because it's a flick from nearly 40 years ago? I got an oled from 2016

Movie never gets old. Goldsmith's score is just so good.

I figured about no more than 20 minutes looks 4k quality.
Now this movie came out in 1985 and so did BACK TO THE FUTURE and that 4k is perfect in picture & sound. Are you gonna say this RAMBO 2 is on the same quality level?
Like I said I was suckered when I bought this 4k based on you all rave reviews about it. Unless maybe you are watching it on 40 inch tvs or smaller maybe that's it. I am watching on 80 inches.

I just watched all 3 BACK TO FUTURE which gets rave reviews at this site and I agree with. Also THE SHINNING I just watched in 4k and that got rave reviews and I agree with. All these movies are 1980s' movies. What it comes down to is whoever outputs the movie and who does the color correction. No reason for a 90's laserdisc color to look better than a 2000 4k disc unless the person doing the job is not good.
Since you talking about watching them on your 80 inch tv and think that's why you find flaws in pic quality. I watched Rambo 1 and 2 on 75 inch and pic quality looks great. They are not amazing but they are great. You need to understand that it all depends on original film stock as well when it comes to restoration process. It's a good transfer. Not very vivid or vibrant but actually this is how I remember watching these movies from vhs to vcds to dvds era as well. Sometimes you don't need to tweak things too much or else you don't get the same feeling you remember for these movies. Just my opinion.

Does anyone know if the 1080p discs in these UHD sets are the remastered 4K version (same as They Live, Prince of Darkness Shout UHD sets). I'm not sure if Lionsgate was cheaping out, Dredd 4K seemed like it came with the old BD.

I bought them recently and now they are on sale. It looks like Amazon reads my mind lol. Its not the first time I miss a sale. Just when I buy a game it is on PlayStation plus for free next month and when I buy a movie it goes on sale soon lol.
