Nope, same place for both router and PS3...they're only about 10 feet away from each other. I reset the router to see if that would help, but nope.

And hooking up anything to ethernet will be monumentally faster than any wi-fi as it's just the nature of the technology.

btw, you speed checked your PS3, what does your computer normally pull with a speed check?

Also, your computer is likely in a different spot than your PS3, have you tried moving your PS3 near your computer if that's possible?
I've been using wireless routers with PS3s for about 3 years and have never had this problem. This is a new slim model that I got in September or October, and was fine until last week.

My computer is further away than my PS3. I don't think it's so much a problem with my router, I think it may be the console itself.

I have the same issue I use a launch 60 gig and get about 4.5 mbs on download and 1mbs on the upload, my speedtest.net shows I get about 19.5 mps down and 5mbs up on my wireless laptop sitting in front of my ps3, can't figure out why, just figured it's how Sony wanted my ps3 to be slow

if its 10 feet away just use an ethernet cord from monoprice.com

wired is always better than wireless

on your laptop (wireless) it brings up a website then stops running, the pse wireless is constantly running to play games.

i have a 50 foot ethernet cable to my ps3 as i HATE wireless gaming.

Right now it's more convenient for wi-fi. When I get my own house I'll probably hook it up by hardline, but I really hate wires.

My computer is hooked up by ethernet, I just used wi-fi temporarlly to see if it had the same issue.

replace the hard drive. the reason it is slowing down when playing games is that the ps3 utilized the hard drive when playing games, not so when watching movies etc. replace it, see if it works. if not take the new hard drive back, get a refund, then send it to sony

But he said he did it 2 years ago so won't be able to get his money back (unless it has a 3 yr warranty of course like WD)!
Anyway I agree you damaged it by knocking while it was saving so only way out is a new HDD.

My point was with wifi anything can happen to result in sudden changes in your otherwise perfect, never changing setup . You're only just now noticing slow down, that doesn't mean it hasn't been there the whole time just every coincidence in your 3 years using it you've never noticed until now.

The point I'm trying to make is that a drastic slowdown doesn't make sense on the PS3 side because if we're basing everything on constants, nothing changed on the PS3, either, therefore it's not the PS3.

Someone could be using a microwave or cordless phone that happens to show up in the same frequency range and causes a lot of packet loss resulting in what appears to be slowdown when really your router or PS3 is just playing catch up sending a bunch of packets trying to stay connected. You're going to have to dig around to find the issue, and quit blaming the PS3 - if you think it's the PS3 return that sucka to Sony for a new one, otherwise try switching your wireless router to a different channel, up the MTU transfer bandwidth, etc...

I can't imagine the SLIM all of the sudden dropping the transfer rate out of the blue for no reason.. if your hardware is going to fail it's just not going to work, period.

So you think someone using a microwave, or flushing a toilet would kill my download/upload speed by 15x less, but that my PS3s wi-fi reader didn't crap out?
Come on, those variables arent going to kill my PS3s wi-fi for over a week...especially when my PS3s wi-fi has been pretty much flawless for three years.

Back up your data. Swap the factory HDD back in. See if it works better.

If you don't still have the original HDD...well, hard drives are cheap. Get a new one.

UPDATE : http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010...s-not-working/

If you’re trying to get onto PlayStation Network as of right now, sorry, it’s down. Many users of PSN have confirmed that the network is currently unavailable, with them receiving a 8001050F error message. That’s not all, many more issues have appeared, leaving PlayStation Network users are less than thrilled, voicing their frustration on forums around the ‘net.

The date on your PSN clock has also apparently changed as well, to December 31st. The time has also been mixed up as well. This is probably due to the fact that there is no network access whatsoever. Users have also reported that games are not working, because trophy access is unresponsive. If you try to play a PS3 or PSN title, the game will give you this message:

Registration of the trophy information could not be completed.
The game will quit.
(8001050F)

Purchased PSN titles are not working as well, and some are reporting of copyright issues. Demos however, are working fine.

We’ll bring you more on this network error as soon as more news hits.

Thanks LpSquall for the tip!

[UPDATE]
Sony has officially responded to the problems users are experiencing with PlayStation Network.

“We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.”

I went to unload Julie & Julia but my PS3 made a clutching noise like it was jammed. So I turned it off and tried to eject the blu again. It came out this time after the noise. Testing the eject function now with the Blade Runner workprint and kind of freaked out.

Default Your Thoughts

Okay, so I'm ordered a new 120GB Slim to use as my main player to replace my current 80GB that has an upgraded hard drive.

What do you guys suggest that have replaced their PS3 before?

A) Do a backup on an external hard drive and restore the system
B) Use a network cable and do a straight transfer
C) Start using the new PS3 and just sign in using my normal PSN and forget about my previous games.

I went with C with YLOD. And then by the time I did the DIY repair, I already had divergent stuff on the separate PS3.

If they're both working, I'd try to go with option B first.
