I used my RC-10's as fronts for a couple of years and was very happy with them. As long as there was a subwoofer to push the bass, they were awesome for both HT and music.

I later decided to step up to the RC-LCRs across the front for a more seamless sound stage and greater mid-range warmth (see gallery). But I will always have great things to say about the RC-10's. Terrific speakers!

well the speakers cannot image properly being so close to the wall. Ideally you should have the speakers set apart in proportion to where you sit, so if you set the speakers 8 feet apart you should be sitting 12 feet back from them. If you sit 10 feet back the speakers should be roughly 6.5 feet apart, and never should they be closer then about 6 feet apart with your center channel in the middle. Also keep the speakers about 1-2 feet from any side walls and 12 inches from the back wall, esp. on rear ported speakers. This insures a proper soundstage and imaging of the speakers.

It is your setup, so do what you think sounds best, however years of scientific testing by Energy has proven that this is the best placement for their speakers.

So as Callas is stating they will image better you will even ear sound projected towards the outside of the speakers not only towards the center.

For example in a movie A glass bottle is thrown to the far right and shatters the sound will sort of hit the wall as oppose to make you feel like it was thrown further away to the right end side.

It's crazy but it's a fact and I believed Callas explained that in a previous post and gave a perfect example from a movie where the sound seems to be coming further away then the speaker itself.

I checked out your gallery early on when I first came to these forums. Very nice indeed. I'm very impressed with your set up, and I'm sure they sound fantastic. I would have never thought of setting up 3 centers like that. But it looks like those speakers are well suited for that. Wish I could afford to do it.

I went by a local sound shop this afternoon that sells klipsch and bose primarily, and I got a chance to demo some klipsch speakers, but found them a little too high, or I guess bright as you guys call it. I didn't particularly like those horn shaped tweeters. They sounded kind of harsh and kind of made me cringe a little bit. Hard to explain.

Not at all you're dead on lol, total opposite of the RC-10 .

BTW What bluray has are not specifically center channel speakers RC LCR stands for Left Center Right indeed, they were design to work well horizontally or vetically but yes indeed not to many people went for that option as one LCR retailed at half the price of the pair of RC-30 so same price for the pair.

Man... I just checked out Art's sale thread, and I want those C-500's but what the heck am I going to do with my C-100. I'll have an extra pair. Man, maybe I should just stick to what I have because I'm happy already, and I don't want to spend money on stuff I don't need to have.

Hehe yeah what you have is quite respectable and sounds great in HT but do you listen to music alot?

If not it's not worth it as much as for HT using 80hz X-over none of your speakers will break a sweath.

For music I think you would benefit from it if you use the full range on your fronts and of course they will fill the room even more and you notice much improvement in the lower end vs the C-200 but you went from C-100 to C-200 and C-C50 to C-C100.

Being bigger the C-C100 gave you more punch more impact and more efficiency and I know you really appreciated the difference but the C-C50 is suprisingly able to hold it's own.

I took that same step at some point C-200 to C-500 but kept C-100 as surrounds, it's really up to you.

You could keep the money for a future major upgrade if you wish or just make this bluray collection grow bigger and bigger.

I don't really play music out loud since I just use my ipod at work. Every once in a while I'll play music with my setup using a CD on my PS3. Sounds okay, but nothing compared to music on BD like MJ's "This is It".

You think ugrading my AV Receiver would be better than just upgrading my Front speakers?

You do make a point though... The C-200 is excellent already so maybe I can just hold off with these for a long time. Damn, being new in the HT game I made the typical mistake buying the "less cheaper" speakers instead of buying the top of the line speakers regarding the C-Series

EDIT: I still need to take photos of my 7.1 setup.

Hey BigAl,

My rear speaker stands are 31" high holding my C-100. Do you think it's worth buying stands that's 36" higher just to make the tweeter even higher at listening positioning?

Currently the Tweeter is "slighty" over my ear to head level with my 31 inch stands.

Don't be so hard on yourself as your C-Series low end will blow alot of tower speaker out of the water in detailing, warmth, imaging and staging and considering their price it was hell of deal.

And for HT if you have a great sub with decent bookshelf you will not see as much difference compared to music.

That would be a good buy yes, As for surrounds now that you are 7.1 Moving the actual surrounds a bit forward and positionthem sideways would improve your HT experience and create a more envelopping sound.

ok, so it's almost 2 am and I couldn't sleep, so of course began thinking again. I remembered something Callas said in a few posts above this one about the spacing of the speakers from the wall. I got up and took a few measurements and noticed I might have a problem. First off my room is a measly 9 1/2 X 10 1/2 for crying out loud, which is fine, but as you can see in the photo I will attach of my current set up I don't have the space to be able to place it 2 ft away from the wall on the right side.
I started to think about this a bit more, and the Energy's have the port behind the speaker, thus the issue of keeping it away from the walls. Now, here I go again, back to the Infinity's. The Infinity P162's have the port in the front of the speaker. Based on this info, do you think I should go the Infinity route, or stick to the plan, get the Energy's and hope for the best?
The way this small room is configured I'm limited to my options as for as placement, so space is very confined. See image attached for reference.

OK, so I think I'll go back to bed now and think about this some more tomorrow. Thanks for your patience with me guys. I'm sure you'll be glad when I finally buy something and quite nagging. lol

For example.. if I did get those C-500s, and place the C-200s as surrounds. Would it be better? The 200's are pretty big.

Since I'm currently using the C-C50 as a rear speaker.. to me. It sounds very similiar to my C-100's as surrounds.

Just to get a better understanding how my 7.1 setup is.....
2x C-100 = Surrounds
1x C-100 = Right Rear Surround
1x C-C50 = Left Rear Surround

Appreciate the comments as always. I think you're right. Maybe I'm just being a little jealous from looking at everyones HT gallery pics.

I might look into those now since they're pretty cheap. I also need to look into an SPL meter as well.

I'd love to position my C-100's sideways, but I'm afraid to knock them over by accident. I also have my cousins come over, and the little one likes to run all over the place and I'd hate for him to knock it over.

well, i'm not 100% sold on selling the c-500s yet, just seeing if there was any interest. if i do sell them, i'm not looking forward to shipping them. there are a few options i'm looking into right now, and if i get serious about them, i need some cash.

i may end up just sticking w/ the energys too; i mean i do really like them. i may though have the opportunity for a much nicer set up in the near future so i'm exploring all options.

just a hint...deftech, monitor audio, and axiom are in the running...

Yeah I see what you're saying. Shipping could be more expensive using 2 boxes? It does make sense to see if you can sell locally.

yeah, it'd probably be around $40 per box. then you have to worry about them being damaged in shipping. i've shipped and received a couple different sets of tower speakers before and never had an issue, but i always worry about shipping damage. insurance is nice, but a hassle.

i'm still at odds as to whether or not i will put them on ebay...
