I just want multiple properties.
I can easily see myself buying a cabin in West Virginia. If I ever become very successful, I'd like to build a house in a very secluded area in Colorado.

You just never know...

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I'll go back to school so that I can learn and earn more to pay the inflated rents and keep the landlords happy

I make $62,500 a year at a job I've held for 24 years. I can easily afford to pay somewhat inflated rent for an apartment (I'm not a house guy) but the point is I don't want to. I'm not going to subsidize some fat cat's lavish lifestyle just because. It's the principle of the thing, not that I have no means. But it looks like I may have to move further away from downtown, or even further West away from Metropolis, because gentrification is beginning to rear its ugly head in and around my neighborhood already. Its an unstoppable force that's going to ruin this country. The cities now belong to the well-heeled.

That's basically what I had to do, move 45 minutes west of where I am to get under the price point I wanted to pay. I vehemently refused to give into the national home builders in this area constantly pushing their $400K plus price point agenda for a smaller scale home on a slab butted up against your neighbor. We moved further out to a considerably higher scale neighborhood in a community with three pools, a huge playground, six tennis courts etc. and were able to build a 3,500 square foot house on a full basement for $383K. It took some time, effort and a ton of patience, but we got precisely what we wanted. We can now also sell the current/old house at a higher price cuz folks are clamoring to get in that area. Some friends of ours, spurred by our recent decision to move, did the same, found another home, put their old one on the market and sold their house after only four days of being on the market. One guy I spoke to at work lived a street over from me and had to tell people to stop calling him after being on the market eight hours. It's certifiably insane and I want no part of it.

When I bought my current house in 2014, I thought "this is it" as in my "forever" home. Here I am 5 years later, not-so sure about it being my "forever" home.

Here's the thing. The house is big (over 3,000sf), and is in a pretty nice neighborhood in a very nice city. The house has a lot of large rooms, among other factors, and was priced very well at time of purchase (I considered it to be ~ $20,000 below value at the time), but the seller just wanted to move and get what she had paid for it back. When we saw it for the first time, our agent had said 12 people/couples had seen the house and half of them had scheduled a 2nd showing. My wife and I knew we loved it and had to have it so we put an offer on the spot and required a 24hour response.

The house is pretty outdated on the inside - we all knew this, but it was still well below value, and it gave us a chance to update it to our liking. But we have not done anything. Since living there, we have had unexpected purchases to make that were not planned, and therefore, pushed back our plans to upgrade rooms.

- New carpeting throughout living room, entry area, stairs, and all upstairs rooms.
- New gas boiler system
- New air conditioning system
- New cooktop
- New dishwasher
- New pool pump/filter
- New window treatments in living room and man cave
- New entry door and storm door

I love my house, and I'm dying to make it new again. But before we can even do that, the next big purchase is getting a new roof.

I'm just at the point where I wouldn't mind looking for a new house someday, one that is the traditional 2 story home with large windows and a big porch and a lot more land, etc. It's hard to imagine moving right now, but the thought has been in my head that my current house isn't my forever house.

I hate when I miss an incredible eBay deal by a couple of minutes. Feel like it happens all of the time.

Random thing to consider on this.... We were going to put new carpet in a couple of rooms and then looked into the projected lifespan of more affordable carpet, not long, to say the least. To get carpet that could reasonably last 20 years would cost well over double, more like three times for a decent pile. We then looked at area rugs. You can put really nice area rugs over the bulk of a room for very little money, if you watch the sales, and just do the underfloor in a nice cheap tile. We chose linoleum tile of the kind you usually find in bathrooms which, we came to find out, is nothing like linoleum. It is a thick tile, about halfway between old-style lino-tyle and ceramic tile, in thickness, and it can be installed easily, without having to hire someone. We just went through and did that with a faux limestone finish tile and laid nice area rugs. We will never have to lay carpet in that house again. the floor will outlast both of us.... Now, the place I have to stay when I'm in California is a different story. I refuse to sink a dollar into that house, given how much more everything costs there. At this point, it is an investment property and we'll be selling in a few years.... As to the carpet, just food for thought. Carpet should only be installed if you really, really want carpet, since it has to be re-done so often. The under-pad just falls apart, on top of every other issue. Good luck with it. We all have those lists and it is no fun fixing up an older house.

Thinking about kids. My wife and I are working towards fostering and then adopting. We are just pending our application to be approved by the state.

I disabled my WiFi for my PS3 awhile ago due to games not playing properly. Some of the games that I had problems with were GoW: Ascension and Kane & Lynch.

FYI: I haven’t turned on my XB1 in months, so I am always behind on the updates.

Sounds like you've lost interest in it. Send it to me and I'll give it the attention that it deserves

bored, or rather struggling to fill my days since I am now working towards my own place from my current transitional housing. Meds are okay. I'm stable but still a little sluggish, I go back to work next week but now having been cooped up for over a month I don't want to stay in that room. Even though I can finally watch and play games. I also have plenty of stuff to read but I just want to be out with people and enjoy life.. Maybe go to a mall or something.
