I tried sendig Nissen a PM asking if I could get the link to the cover download, and still no answer. I don't know if he has seen the PM or doesn't have time to respond. Is there anyone here that has the file and could share it! The original cover (Japan) is so damn hard to understand ![]() Cheers, Alfalfa |

Please note that passing any of my files on without my express permission is specifically against my wishes, so if anyone does so they're on my blacklist for sure. You get them directly from me or not at all. |

But it is pretty nice to get a bunch of cool covers after those waits and then spending time adding the new covers to the BD collection. I printed your cover and used the original Japanese for the interior picture with the original black case. Really happy with it. |

Okay:
- Audio Skips - Hardware issue with seamless branching. Not addressable by disc. - Missing audio - Director's request for his cut of the movie. - Repeated scene - Being corrected through replacement program. Actual release thread might be the best place to follow up. ![]() |

As many of you know, I'm always happy to share my custom covers I create with all of you. I NEVER said "no" to anyone who requested a cover from me. I'm humbled that you think highly of my work and would like to display it on your media shelves, etc.
But as some of you can attest, when I email the full resolution files in my email, I always request that you not share the files or upload them to other websites. There have been instances in the past where someone has taken my custom covers and uploaded them to various websites claiming to be the original artist. After the countless hours I put into making them, I'm sure you can relate that this is extremely disheartening. Well, I had my @ss handed to me for asking the files not be shared in the JAWS 2/JAWS 3D/JAWS THE REVENGE thread by JackKnightStarman, post # 2775. Because I don't OWN the images, logos, artwork I'm labeled a pirate among other things. Here's his ridiculous claim: ************************************************** ******************************* Originally Posted by JackKnightStarman View Post Are you charging for these? You are No better than those @$$#ats at comic conventions who just add a image filter on somebody else's artwork/image, to sell as their own. Anyway, I am proud to be in the company of so many talented and truly gifted artists in this thread who create "pirate" covers!!! ![]() Last edited by steev210; 07-03-2016 at 03:32 AM. |

I've been called out a few times myself, for claiming "ownership" of my custom covers, mostly with the same arguments that were thrown at you. Some people just don't see anything creative in doing custom covers utilizing pre-existing artwork. I've even had Art Directors from established design firms say they don't consider such work as "designing" at all. (In general, package design occupies the lower rung of work amongst graphic designers.) But I can assure everyone that there IS a craft to making custom covers, and it takes an aesthetic sense, an eye for detail, dedication, time, patience and effort to put these things together. After all that effort I sure as hell feel justified in claiming the right to control distribution of my covers, and try to avoid them being uploaded to cover sites where someone else earns money off of them. Like I said in an earlier post here, "you get them from me or not at all". But I also want to make it clear that I don't charge payment for sharing existing covers. Never have, never will. On those occasions where I am getting paid to design a cover I want to make it clear that I do not have any rights to the picture material or other assets (logos etc) used to create the cover and make no claims to compensation for the use of such material. I provide a design service only. What I am charging for is the actual work-hours spent on the design. I am getting paid for the service, not the product, and there IS a difference. It means I cannot (and will not) charge payment for a cover that is already made. Once I've been paid for the actual making of it (the service), I give out the finished file (the product) free of charge to anyone who asks*. While this in no way would hold water in court, I stand by my moral justification. *barring the occasional impolite "demanding" members. I reserve the right to "limit who gets what" based on my own judgement, and Mr. JackKnightStarman is on my blacklist :-) |

... and pertaining to this discussion, here is a breakdown of what it may take to use existing artwork on a cover. This is an example from an upcoming cover in my Hitchcock collection. Do I own the legal copyright to the finished piece, as cobbled together from four different posters? No. Do I claim moral ownership? Absolutely!
