This is the only thing that annoys me when sales happen for Criterion. People who are more into the deal bandwagon rather than love for these films.

It would be uber cool if Criterion could get the rights to the never before released on home video "The Worlds Greatest Sinner" directed and starring the late great Timothy Carey (The Killing, Minnie and Moskowitz,Head, Paths of Glory, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie). A very young Frank Zappa did the music! The film is from 1962. A very obsure gem!

Like the people who just buys Criterions on blu-ray just to buy them and still never watch them?

Yeah, those too. Although why anyone wouldn't want to watch a film they bought is beyond me. But I guess if it looks good on their shelf...

I can't imagine too many of these people existing, though... right now I have 12 unwatched Criterions, but that is due only to stocking up during the B&N sale. They definitely won't go unwatched for long. Even people who let a title sit for a long time has plans to eventually watch it. I would think only extreme collectors with too much $$ buy with little (to no) intent of actually watching a movie.

12 of my 26 Criterion BR's I haven't had the chance to watch yet. 4 are new within the past 2 weeks though. Out of my 50+ Criterion DVDs, there are only 2-3 I haven't watched. Sadly, one of them is Videodrome, which I should have waited on for the BR.

Just watched Paths of Glory this morning. Nice to see it in it's proper ratio of 1.66 instead of the Full Frame version that was on the MGM dvd. As good as Kirk Douglas was in it, I think the great late Timothy Carey put on the best performance in the film! He should have gotten a supporting Oscar nomination for it. Let's hope that Criterion will give us The Killing as well with Fear and Desire as an extra.

Like I mentioned before, Criterion was showing The Killing at All Tomorrow's Parties, so I'm pretty sure a release is in the pipeline. Hopefully earlier part of 2011

I bought Modern Times last night. Aside from being a completely lovely film, I love the packaging, fantastic release.

Not too shabby yourself...

I really wanted to get "The Night of the Hunter" as well, but I've spent a lot of money this month.

So I was at B&N and saw Rules of the Game, but it came in a plastic sleeve much like Fear and Loathing

I have only ever seen it in the regular DVD case, I'm guessing this must have been how it was originally released then had a case change. Much like how short cuts does not come with the book anymore.

Does anyone know the story on this? And does anyone have this plastic sleeve version also?

Yep. That packaging is very hip, and rad, and wicked, and sick, and cool.
