I was a big βetamax supporter, had the Sony SL-HF2700 then the Sony SL-HF900 βeta Hi-Fi. Supported βeta because it had better PQ and AQ. Still was a distance 2nd place to my Pioneer CLD-900 LaserDisc machine. Also had a Panasonic VHS Hi-Fi but used only for rentals. Still have my JVC HM–DH5U D-VHS D-Theater machine.
SL-HF900: [Show spoiler]

In 20 years not only will we still have TVs, the old hernia inducing CRT sets will be retro and cool. I plan to use them as a springboard from which to haunt those damn hipsters of the future. ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 02-24-2020 at 06:18 AM. |

You guys hang on to all these stats on Disc sales, but in reality they are on the way out. All the major Studios and Providers are going Streaming, even though EST doesn't show this. You guys are left with two 4K Players, Panasonic and Pioneer, I know also the PS5 but that's for gaming not a Quality Player and maybe coming out in the 4th Qtr. I'll bank on Streaming from a Server over Fiber! Last edited by alchav21; 02-24-2020 at 04:42 AM. |

![]() Your anecdote means nothing. My anecdote meant nothing. That was the entire point and of course you missed it. People buying the least expensive item at a Walmart; alert the media! What a startling revelation! ![]() We value factual verifiable information; that is why we read actual industry data instead of relying upon idiotic meaningless anecdotes like a halfwit would. If discs were "on the way out" we would be seeing fewer releases and we are, in fact, getting more of them. If a product were being discontinued, we would see a smaller selection, not a larger one. It is just not that hard to understand. Not everyone settles for the cheap garbage that you do and I am not referring to just your preference for streaming. Discs will continue to be offered for those who want better quality and for those who believe in actually owning what they buy. Many markets exist that cater to the interests of smaller segments of the population; this is another fact that is hopelessly beyond your feeble grasp. There are more than just two 4K disc players available. Best Buy currently offers 10 models of 4K disc players and that does not include the Xbox consoles or the two models offered by Pioneer. You know absolutely nothing about this subject as you have never owned a 4K disc player nor have you even seen a 4K disc in action. You are talking out of your arse as usual, but how can you not when that is where your head is permanently lodged? ![]() You also know nothing whatsoever about the quality of the 4K disc drive in the upcoming Playstation 5; you are just making this sh*t up and highlighting your profound ignorance. The blu-ray drive in the Playstation 3 was an excellent blu-ray player and they are still running strong today. The 4K disc drives in the Xbox consoles are capable players as well. We already know what you "bank" upon: illusions. Throw away your money on air, agree to terms that you have not read and that you would not understand even if you did, trust blindly in large companies to do right by you, and keep on paying ever higher internet service fees to access content. Make any foolish choice that you like; it does not adversely affect me or anyone else. I buy discs and I get the digital code, too; I enjoy the far better video and audio quality that they provide. My purchases can be not be censored, edited, or removed. I do not have any terms of service to agree with; none at all. I do not need to worry about data caps and ever more expensive, ever unreliable, internet service to watch my content. Unlike you, I will own, and I will have in my possession, everything that I buy. With Vudu being up for sale, digital customers are once again fretting about what will become of their purchases, especially their TV shows as Movies Anywhere does not support TV content. Over the past year we have had continual uncertainty, anxiety, and turmoil in the digital landscape starting with the closure of UV. As a physical media collector I am entirely immune to such dramas. I, and many others, do not care what the masses do. You have a herd mentality, so be a sheep and be sheared. In the 35 years that I have been collecting movies and acquiring home theater set-ups I have never cared about what most people were doing. I wanted something more, something better, and that is what I obtained. I am doing the same now as I have ever done. Watch your bitrate starved artifact riddled streams and listen to their lossy audio through your low-end wireless head phones; that suits you fine. Many of us have higher standards, though, and we want far better while you have always quickly settled for less than, cheap, and the most convenient. You are more the typical Walmart customer than you realize. Last edited by Vilya; 02-24-2020 at 06:29 AM. |
