Watched: The Road
Movie: A very good film, though i'll have to see it again before I will be able to rate it.
VQ: 3/5, a very soft presentation with edge enhancement present. I can't say if it is faithful to it's source, which I have heard it is in which case I would bump the score up one.
AQ: 3.5/5, the score is marvelous and the sound is adequate though nothing overly note worthy is present (nor does the film call for anything flashy).
Overall: Not sure yet, but I would recommend renting first as many will like the film but not want to revisit it. The technical side is strong and it seems as if all it's 'faults' can be attributed to it's source. I should not it features one terrifying scene that is one of the few scenes that have made me fell sick to the stomach.

Pretty good transfer considering the film's age, sharpness of the colours especially from the light of the fog came out really well. Sound Quality was also top notch.

I'm gonna make it John Carpenter Double, I'll be watching Halloween this weekend.

I will be adding to my Carpenter collection, definitely worth getting Escape from New York, and The Thing.

Any other Carpenter film on Blu-Ray you guys think would be worth getting?

i rate this one a 4
Personally I'd stick away from Escape from New York at the moment. The transfer on that one is pretty average from what I've heard. The Thing looks very good IMHO. It has some DNR, but it's not too intrusive and the grain structure is still largely intact so it doesn't compromise the image. The detail is highly improved so I'd highly recommend that title.

Assuming your collection listing is up to date it doesn't look like you have Big Trouble in Little China. In that case I'd recommend you put that on your buy list ASAP! If you like Carpenter/Russell films, then this is the one to get. Great cult film and a fantastic package on Blu-ray with a faithful presentation.

Escape from LA is apparently an average presentation all round, and Starman is apparently quite reasonable.

Received Snow White and Speed in the mail. Ordered Speed from EzyDVD and I could hear that the disc wasn't in place inside the cover. Unwrapped it and noticed that it was because the push-down button was broke! Argh! Could've returned it if I hadn't opened it, even though I'm sure it was my sister's fault for having just dropped it on the floor before leaving me to pick it up. Luckily I can always take another new cover from work!

Invictus. Great film. Great transfer. Also, Morgan Freeman was amazing! I haven't seen Crazy Heart, but Freeman's performance as Mandela was no doubt the best I've seen since Sean Penn as Harvey Milk!

And saw The Losers today. A shame it only grossed a mere $24M at the worldwide box office as it's probably one of the most entertaining action romps I've seen in a long while. The script is written by Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt, both of whom worked together on Welcome to the Jungle, another action favourite of mine. This'll be a day-one purchase for me once it hits Blu.

Watched: Toy Story 2. The new rendering looked great and the sound was as usual excellent. The opening action sequence had some great bass.

Now is it that Tombstone or Wyatt Earp the better version of the events of the OK Coral?

I do love a good western and I love the story of Wyatt Earp.

I didn't think the blu ray rerendered anything. I believe that was only for the 3d theatrical release.

Bought: Welcome to the Jungle (also, can we get this added to the database? I don't want to have to add "The Rundown" to my collection )

Also saw Prince of Persia and loved it! Classic adventure in the vein of The Mummy. Afterwards I couldn't help but compare to Clash of the Titans though. Worthington in that film was so wooden. No personality. It was all about him wanting to become man. Blah, blah, blah. Clash took itself much too seriously. PoP on the other hand is just fun. It's a real adventure. Jake Gyllenhaal brings real light-hearted personality to his character. With him, you wanted to go along for the ride. Same goes for Gemma Arterton, who I absolutely hated in Clash. She is much, much more relaxed here. Alfred Molina is also a highlight as the very funny desert sheik. Anyway, without a doubt this should go down as one of the year's best blockbusters, so naturally it is also the best videogame adaptation to date. This is how one should be done with just enough nods to the game to please fans (such as myself) as well as an accessible plot, appealing characters and fun action sequences to draw in general moviegoers alike. Again, it was all very well done. Great movie. Bring on the sequel I say!

Both films were re-rendered for 3D and a new 2D render was used for Blu-ray as far as I know. I can't find the article that stated this, however this post on AVS states that the original render resolution was 1536 x 922. That means 1,416,192 pixels per frame assuming that information is correct. Page 7 of this article states that the film contains 160 billion pixels in the film's 114,240 frames. Taking that into account, if you times the assumed pixels per frame (1,416,192) by the number of frames (114,240) you end up with 161,785,774,080 pixels. That calculation supports the AVS poster's resolution information. Based on that, any previous transfer would have been based on a render which was under Blu-ray resolution and therefore would need a re-render to look clean, crisp and without aliasing.

Just finished watching Day Watch, no where near as good as Night Watch
but then again Day Watch is not CIH friendly with their subtitles in part in the black bars
so had to watch in the English DTS 5.1 dub track,
Didn't think it was as sharp picture wise as Night Watch either.
Definatelly a dissapointment for me on Blu Ray, I'd give it a 5 out of ten
