It's being released by Universal next year. It was announced at the same time as To Kill A Mockingbird & Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind and several others. Eternal Sunshine and A Beautiful Mind have specs and a release date (1/25), MSRP of $26.98 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon for $19.99. I haven't compared the DVD release features to the Blu-Ray features, so not sure how Dazed and Confused features will compare to Criterion's or the Universal's DVD release. All I can tell you is a Criterion BR isn't real likely anytime soon.

I don't think I can justify picking up the BBS set since I'm only interested in a few of the films in the set (The Last Picture Show, Five Easy Pieces, and maybe Easy Rider). It's too bad it just missed the B&N sale (I would have grabbed Videodrome, too, and still might).

Well let me help you out. Criterion blu-rays are about $30.

So just think of it like this:

Easy Rider - $30
Last Picture Show - $30
Five Easy Pieces - $30

$90

4 other movies that you'll prob love if you get a chance to watch them - FREE!

I won The Man Who Fell to Earth last night on ebay for $48.00, thought I was going to pay more. Lowest Buy Now price is $69.99, high is $90.00.
Huh... My local B&N actually had TMWFTE in stock until just recently. I even mentioned that it was OOP to the employees, yet there it was every time I went there. $48 isn't too bad, I guess, since it would have been $40 at B&N prior to the sale.

Same. Well, right around that price--I don't specifically remember how much. Still, it doesn't take long for those OOP Criterion titles to skyrocket. Definitely glad I hopped on that (and Pierrot le Fou) before they reached The Third Man-levels of eBay insanity.

I checked every B&N and Borders within a 50 mile radius looking for it and The Third Man. Figured I better pick them up before they become too ridiculous.

Sooo, I haven't seen any status on my Modern Times from UPS. It departed from Kentucky two days ago and still no word where the hell it is. Beautiful.

Cool, even Facebook posters are joining in to help me talk to Criterion about releasing Hopper's The Last Movie. Thank you Facebook posters. Finally something I can say that for.

Borders around here have way less of a selection than the B&Ns. Rumor is that before long they won't have any selection, and that's making the assumption that they're still in business.

That said, I have $10 borders bucks to unload by today, plus a 33% off coupon, so that's where I'll be later today, trying to find something…

I picked up the AMERICA Lost and Found The BBS Story set at Barnes & Noble today, i found a 20% off Coupon for membership rewards renewal which some CSRs will take at the register and not turn it down.I was lucky the lady took it and didn't flinch. I paid w/ tax 86.00ish

I found the set in MINT condition so I was lucky. Another location the top corner was crushed in.

Yeah that's the combo I used to get my Sherlock Jr. for 9 bucks. Unless you really want your movie now, I'd say the better deal is using it online since it's usually 2 or 5 dollars cheaper.

Ah, another reason why I prefer B&N to Borders.
Borders doesn't have their Criterion's in their own section, they are just randomly spread in amongst all other releases. Not to mention the VERY slim selection. Checking on borders.com, most releases are "available online only".

I understand where you guys are coming from.... I guess my point is that I would have released Rashomon BEFORE many of the already released kurosawa movies (With the exception of Seven Samurai). i mean, IMO, Rashomon is far superior to Kagemusha. I just think it's one of the most influential movies ever made and it needs to be on blu already.

Also, I guess I don't really see Rashomon as a typical "Samurai" movie like those others. But that might be just me, of course

DVD Empire currently has the best deal on BBS Story: $78.68 when you use 10% discount code "POPCORN25" That's $11.24 pr Criterion title.

I just got a little delivery from the ups dude.
looks very minty even with minimal protection and a too big box.
It has a little corner dent, but otherwise I can't complain too much.
can't say I'm a big fan of the multiple cardboard slims jutting out at all angles, but I'll get past it.
Overall I'm SUPER stoked and ready for film number 1--Head.
wonder if I can make it through all the films by Sunday?

I just thought of a dilemma. I order my Criterion's alphabetically on my shelf (unlike some who go by spine #), so I guess I have no other option than to stick the BBS Story set at the end of my collection? What's everyone else going to do with theirs?

Maybe put with the A's for America : Lost and Found, or with the B's for BBS Story.

I do have Yojimbo/Sanjuro stuck at the end.
