That was actually my first introduction to 3D. At the time I had no 3D television and bought the anaglyphic DVD. Needless to say I was floored by the 3D even with all the ghosting and extra layers of color. It was then that I knew I would eventually go for a 3D set once my other monitor broke down. |

That's a bummer. I don't think I would ever want to watch that movie without 3d. Not terrible, but better things to use up my time on.

Today added to the family Julia X, Pirates Band of Misfits, Night of Living Dead Re-animation, and Jungle Safari.
Last night watched Die Legende von Pinocchio with the kids. They liked it. I was pretty lukewarm. Liked some of the actors and always great to have Jim Henson creations in a film. 3D was a post conversion and it showed. A pretty weak effort in fact, and it could have been so much more. Also watched Mockingjay Part 1. 3D was more in force than Pinocchio and provided a decent sense of depth and layers. I had actually only seen Hunger Games once a long time ago but it has been surprisingly enjoyable to work my way through the sequels. Catching Fire would have been fun in 3D. |

Know I'm the one who recommended it. So you can take your wrath out on me. LOL. Still feel the movie earned high marks for it's 3D conversion. |

And I wanted to like it becuase you rec'd it. I guess its all in the eye of tbe beholder. I had to keep flipping up my glasses to prove it was still 3D. However it was a good wholesome family movie with extra sea monster throat!!

Just received my order from Brazil: Son of Bigfoot and Finest Hours! I found somebody on eBay willing to buy from Amazon Brazil and ship them to me in the US. Looking forward to watching both.

I popped in Pacific Rim last night to test out my new bass transducers. They shook my whole living room, but I was also blown away by how well Pacific Rim works in 3D. I know they gave the post-conversion a full forty weeks, but the studio only imposed it on Del Toro after the film was shot. That said, the 3D doesn't look like an afterthought. The depth is consistent, no ringing, flawless lighting even in the night-time ocean scenes. The film even feels edited for 3D, with a long average shot length and no quick cuts.
The only real difference between this and something intended for 3D from the start is that there's less traditional pop outs. The film chucks plenty of rain, bubbles, and debris in your face, but the robots never throw a punch at the audience, and there's only one sword pop-out. The 'into the drift' sequences also seem like a missed opportunity for a 3D vortex; the 'enter the oasis' sequence from Ready Player One, or the Micro-verse sequences from the Ant-Man movies both pack more punch in that regard. But as a whole I'd consider Pacific Rim's 3D superior to Ready Player One, and about on par with the Ant-Man movies. PR's 1.78 aspect ratio gives it a leg up over both. It's a shame Del Toro hasn't made more 3D, his style is a natural fit. I know what I'm demoing next time I wanna show off my transducers and 3D at the same time. All the information was there in the first post of the Viy thread which I directed you towards. I'm not sure why you chose to ignore that information but if you'd read it you would have known which versions had the English audio and subtitles on the 3D disc.

For a conversion, I found Horas Decisivas (Finest Hours) fantastic! I love the car/snow on windshield and passing steerage messages/engine room scenes! |
