Fossil fuel sourced power is not going to get any cheaper, either, and the costs of its continued usage is reflected in more than just our electric bills.

Taxpayer funding, in one form or another, will be necessary for this transition, but taxes are likewise paid by the populace, so no mater how you look at it we will be paying to switch to clean renewable energy. The many benefits of clean energy makes the expense not only worth it, but essential.

It will be law. The EU just signed an agreement to be climate neutral by 2050.
You won't have a choice.

I wonder if we will struggle to get our Blurays/UHD discs this year? I imagine if this virus gets worse distribution plants and warehouses will be on lockdown. It could be a really shitty year.

Anecdote time! Hold onto something tight!

I went shopping last night and I purchased a 4K disc, Ne Zha, a Chinese animated new release, at my local Walmart located in a tiny podunk town while Amazon.com has yet to get any in stock at all. I used the Amazon app while inside a Walmart store to cancel my Amazon pre-order; it amused me somehow to do so there.

Of greater interest, I noticed that at both stores that I shopped there had been a run on hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, disinfecting wipes, and cold/flu medications of all types. These sections were half to three quarters empty at each store. Hand sanitizer was all but gone; just three small bottles at one store and none at all at the other. There's some panic buying underway in my little corner of paradise.

Potential delay or disruption in the supply of discs might be the least of our problems.

I’m more concerned about any potential issues with films and Blu-ray than I am about getting the virus.

We are coming over to yours Vilya. Has no one told you yet? You have enough content to see us through the next two years at least. I require access to a MacBook, at least a 65 inch 4K screen and I’m not sharing a bed with ANYONE! I need a en-suite as well. For breakfast I want porridge made with milk with fresh Blueberries. Failing that, crunchy nut cornflakes (made by Kellogg’s) on a weekend I need the best pizza takeaway possible and chips topped with a rich Bolognese.
You will probably need to buy me a VR headset as I don’t fancy flying to the U.S with mine as it might get broken.

Is that ok?

By the way, I have been trying to resend a friend request as I feel bad about that strop I had a few months back. I don’t know why it won’t let me.

This ain't the home of the Three Bears; I've never served porridge, at any temperature, yet alone "just right." Cold cereal and blueberries is manageable, but I only buy organic half and half instead of plain ol' milk. Take-out pizza is doable, but chips with Bolognese? What the hell is that? Glorified french fries with spaghetti sauce dumped over them? And stay out of my Belgian chocolates!

I can't guarantee the private bed, either. My one-eyed pirate kitty LOVES company. He has claws, too, and he lives to make "biscuits."

This is a Microshaft Windoze and GooglyOogly Android homestead; the only "Mac" anything that you will find here is Mac 'N' Cheese.

You better bring your own VR helmet and a PS4 to go with it; I only buy the odd numbered models for some mysterious reason.

I don't know what's up with the blu-ray.com friend request thingy; maybe the website holds a grudge? I can try from my end and see what happens. I just did and it says "request sent."

Sorry, I can’t accept your terms.

Thanks for trying to accommodate me though!

Bologneise? It’s nice chunky chips with a beef bolognese on top. Minced beef in a rich sauce in other words.

It’s the perfect companion to a Heatwave pizza (toppings of kebab meat, jalapeños, pepperoni, chilli, salami, tomato and cheese.

I don't think BD would be able to be 8k, 4k is the limit IMHO. The same way DVD was not enough for HD

I always look at comments like that with a grain of salt. also the issue isn't just point And and point B but everything in between.

I don't have the time now to read everything from page 1 so I'll just go to the heart of my concern.....

There is now the trend of viewing in digital and streaming . I noticed that most brand name 4K player manufacturers have ceased producing such player save Panasonic.

Is it safe to conclude that this is the direction home movies are going?

Will we see the eventual stoppage of hard copy formats of movies and players in favour of digital and streaming devices?

for example
here is a partial list of some UK projects

The strike price is an agreed upon price (i.e. what your utility will be paying the electricity generating facility to buy that electricity). No with wind you can do that because there are no market costs (i.e. wind always costs 0 but the price of coal or gas or NG will never be 0 and fluctuate depending on the market. )

last year the UK paid around 58 £/Mwh

Subscription streaming is in a distant second place to Pay TV services (i.e.: cable/satellite) among the categories of home entertainment spending. As for purchases, discs (packaged goods) still outsell digital purchases (EST), but that will likely change by 2021. Purchases in general, all types combined, noted in the chart as "Sell-Thru including EST", has been declining every year since 2011 as people are subscribing more and buying less.

https://www.degonline.org/portfolio_...ment-report-2/

Sony, LG, Panasonic, and Pioneer all still offer 4K disc players. Microsoft's Xbox One also has a 4K disc drive and so will the upcoming Sony Playstation 5.

Physical media is becoming more of a niche market, but that does not mean that discs will cease to be made. So long as they are a profitable endeavor, they will continued to be offered the same as are countless other specialty items. We are actually seeing an increase in the number of titles released on disc each year; the selection continues to grow despite the decline in sales.

Predictions for the future, even when they come from a respected news outlet like the BBC, should always be taken with a grain of salt.

Predictions made by many of our forum members should be taken with a whole dump truck load of it.

absolutely.

Quebec/Manitoba vs Ontario makes a good case study IMHO.

They all tend to be very similar in geography and climate. Back in the day Quebec and Manitoba decided to zing (go big time Hydro) while Ontario zagged and went consumable

today 95% of Quebec's electricity comes from hydro and 4% wind,
Manitoba 97% hydro and 2% wind
on the other hand for Ontario it is 26% hydro and 7% wind.

here is a chart of the cost of 1000 kWh for a given month (by province)

Ontario is easy to find (the source of the image is from there so it is in Red)

Quebec and Manitoba are easy as well (two first columns)

you do realize we are talking utilities? do you have a choice where your electricity comes from and how much is charged?
