This is the only thing I'll say on the subject so it doesn't get out of hand. I wouldn't compare outputs of directors. It's not Kurosawa, Bergman or Godard's fault they have made more movies over the years than Anderson. So I wouldn't compare output. All I know is Criterion has been trying to get ALL (not comparing outputs), ALL of Anderson's films. They don't touch Godard's late period, so I wouldn't compare that.

Carry on.

Oh and the only reason they do, is because hip teens buy crap. Who is the hip director these days? Hmmmm.....

Doesn't hurt to try. But your right, it's the popular thing to do. Hate on post 60's Godard, even if you haven't watched and understand it yourself. Citizen Kane, Breathless, and Seven Samurai is all you need to know. I'll add Royal Tenenbaums in that list of "BEST" (see what I did there) of all time.

This whole Anderson thing (I wouldn't really call it a debate) leads back to something that was discussed on here a couple of days ago. And I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but here it goes:

If there's something you don't like, then why do you buy it? Why do you support it? If you're one of those that has to have every single Criterion film that's in the blu-ray catalog, and you don't like Anderson, then what's the point.? I know, there's nothing wrong with it and you can do whatever you want with your money, but why express your discontent in Anderson films. You're only exposing yourself as a [fill in the blank] who doesn't enjoy all the films you buy. And if you're one that buys all Criterion to support Criterion, then good for you! But there's no room for you to complain when they put out a film of a director they feel is deserving and you simply don't like.

Yes! They do! And a lot of times their complaints are less valid than you'd think.

And yes, there is such a thing as your complaint/opinion not being valid...

Big trouble, a lot of people love hidding behind "it's my opinion and as such I can't be wrong". It's a debate that as no end but that is the Internet for you

The irony of hating one's hate by taking up the forum posting it.

Speaking of hip...
I'd much rather see Anderson films as a part of the Criterion Collection versus, let's say, Napoleon Dynomite or Juno or one of those "really good movies with awesome soundtracks!" so many teenagers adore.

I see what you did there..... you arrived at the conclusion that since I don't care for the later Godard (I was thinking early/mid 80's on.... not 60's, although I'm not familiar enough with his work to know what films he released in exactly what years without looking them up) that I then MUST have never seen any of it..... quite the contrary.... I have probably exhausted Netflix and the local library, and I also own a DVD set that includes Detective, Passion, Oh Woe is Me, and Carmen..... Nonetheless, I just find his earlier works better.... MUCH better, and in all honesty, despite trying to watch everything he puts out, he's not one of my favorites, he's up there with Fellini for me.... I watch it all, find most of it beautifully done, but often I don't have a strong emotional attachment to his films, but I digress.

I've seen the later stuff..... I don't like the later stuff.... perhaps you hit the nail on the head... "Christopher Nolan" That's the ticket! Enjoy the earlier stuff, could do without the newer stuff

haha.. I just realized your boy "Wes" would probably fall into that category too, since his earlier stuff is much more enjoyable to me, but his (much like Nolan's) portfolios are too small to draw these conclusions........yet......

I like the fact that you couldn't come up with the director's name for said films (I certainly don't know it )

Sure there is. Your not going to have people turn into robots and like the popular opinion. I don't care is Anderson wins "Best Director Ever" award on National T.V., so it must be true. So why hate and post off-topic on the fact that people go off-topic and hate? I just see it as you hating on the fact someone doesn't like something you do.

But if you want robot central, then I better not see another bad opinion about ANYTHING, or they should be banned. I see posts that hate on more people than Wes Anderson, well more bashing on Criterion than Anderson, being they are the one releasing them. So what would you want, anti-opinion lovefest ("Oh I'm new here, I like what your having please. What's more popular Seven Samurai or Seventh Seal? The winner is the one I'm buying!"), or free opinion ("Godard films are so boring!" "Wes Anderson sucks!")?

I prefer his 60's movies then some of the later movies myself but I was never a big fan of his either. I grew up on French cinema, it was everywhere, all the time, after a while you can over dose on it

You have something there. People have a way to react to post sometimes as if you are personaly attacking their first born child. Try and go post in the Avatar thread and say you did not enjoy the movie You would think each and everyone of them made the movie and they are now so offended

Nice opinion there. I think the same can be said about 3 Sci-fi films. Kind of gets old after a while.

Sir, I said no such thing. How did you think I thought you were the type to go on IMDB to look up movie titles and act like you watched them. I would never.

Way to go Barnes and Noble. America Lost and Found: The BBS Story shipped today and is expected to arrive on 11/24/2010.

Weird thing is I logged in to check my credit card activity and they did not charge me for it. Under pending charges it states $0.00.

Hmm...

Oh there is a difference.....I enjoy scifi (insert 6 Star Wars movies here not 3 by the way) and I am not a fan of Godard so while one can become a bit tiresome the other just stay fun.

Actually I find French cinema to be a bit over hyped at times by Americans but it's nothing bad really.
