Im thinking we'll see physical purchases increase after this whole trend of streaming services, i think people will realise they cant keep up with multiple streaming services (main ones atm being Netflix and Disney+)
Some (older) titles just arent available via streaming services |

There will also be several free services that go the Advertisement route. I think that will be a trend in the next two years. The people who have switched to Netflix, Amazon etc.. are the people (in general) that don’t really care about films as much as most of us in here. It’s just about a couple of hours of entertainment after a bust day at work. Subscription streaming scratches that itch. So, I don’t think people will switch back to disc in general. We have lost that crowd now. What we can’t have is people moaning who have switched to digital. You have made your bed, now lie in it. |

well until this post the discussion was only about electricity, if you wanted your previous post to be about heating you should have made it clear at the time. But I do find your last post interesting. Are you saying that there is a law in the UK that will force people to replace their heating systems in a very short time, even if it is not needed? |

There are a lot of folks switching from linear pay TV to SVOD but in the end it is still just pay TV. Pay TV is where the big home entertainment revenue dollars have been, are, and most likely will continue to be. |

The point is, it’s hard to separate cable/Sat and subscription streaming now. |

I can understand arguing about choice but my guess there is very few people (if any) that will be forced to replace their heating because of the law and so those expenses are coming no matter what. |

Going further back, their original plan was to be the online equivalent of Blockbuster. That didn’t quite work out as most of their audience seem to only watch the occasional film and seem to be more interested in tv shows.

The way I see it is having access to the most Source Content would be the best solution. Like me I have IPTV, Amazon, MA, Netflix, Vudu, and other Streaming Providers. So the people that want Discs could still access their Players, but they should also be open to other Content available to them.

![]() I have, and I use, an over the air antenna, IPTV, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Prime, MA, and others also, but even with all of these there are thousands and thousands of titles that are only available on disc. Your "streaming only" attitude is as rigid and as inflexible as is any "disc only" attitude and such closed mindedness arbitrarily denies you access to thousands of titles. Open your own mind before you ask anyone else to do so. Last edited by Vilya; 03-08-2020 at 06:30 PM. |

My problem with streaming services is that they phase the older films out in favour of their own original content. As a guy who prefers older films, a lot of the mainstream services don’t appeal to me very much. I can take them or leave them. Something like the criterion channel might be a different story though and I have actually been enjoying Shout Factory TV lately. I like the idea of a company offering up a free service to showcase their tv and film selection. That is the ideal middle ground for me.

I do prefer Streaming, but I still have my BD Player connected and can access as another Source. I still have a lot of BD and DVD's plus Back-ups. So I am not completely closed to Disc, I just prefer Digital Streaming. I know you will bring up 4K Disc Player, but I have seen them at Best Buy and my 4K Streaming works and looks just fine.

Nobody asked me, but I pay close to nothing for the streaming services that I use.
I pay $119 per year for Amazon Prime, which is $9.92 per month, but that is for the two day shipping of merchandise, namely discs; their streaming service is just a perk and one that I seldom even use. I pay nothing for Netflix as I am sharing an account. LOTS of people share their accounts. MA costs me nothing; I just redeem digital codes that came with my discs there. Same with Vudu; I redeem digital codes that come with my discs here. I very rarely pay to rent something on demand. I am far more likely to watch their free stuff with ads; sometimes they give me a $2 credit for doing so. Vudu does not cost me anything except upon the rare occasion that I choose to pay to rent something and that rental costs typically $5 or less. To date, Vudu has paid me as much or more than I have paid them thanks to their viewing credits. Watching TV with my over the air antenna is free. Watching IPTV is free other than the cost of my internet service that makes using it possible. Tubi is free and so is the PBS streaming app. Youtube is free as well as I do not use any of their premium services. Other than my monthly cost for internet service, $80, (a service that I would have whether I streamed anything or not) streaming from all of these places is costing me pretty much nothing. I'm not really familiar with Tubi and PBS. 9.92 a month just for faster shipping seems a bit excessive, no ? ![]() And it boggles my mind that Netflix still allows account sharing while they're so deep in red numbers. |

Tubi is a free ad supported service and they offer a lot of popular, but older, content. PBS is our national Public Broadcasting Service; they offer a paid streaming service for $5 per month that allows access to their most popular creative content. The free version allows access to most of their excellent documentaries and some of their older creative stuff. I place about 100 orders per year at Amazon, so that $119 per year Prime membership is a bargain AND I share my prime shipping benefits with two other people making it an even sweeter deal. Netflix, and many other subscription streaming services, allow a certain number of devices to stream from them at any given time. People simply share their login credentials. Netflix allows for multiple user profiles allowing each person to maintain their own watchlist; other services likely do the same. It is a common practice for people to pay for one service and to share it while their friends pay for another one and likewise share it. For the price of one subscription streaming service, these people are getting access to two or more services. Last edited by Vilya; 03-09-2020 at 04:35 PM. |
