According to this blog: https://evangelionsubtitles.wordpres...nal-vs-edited/ Eva's audio was edited for later releases and the Japanese bluray has an option to switch between the edited and original, can anyone who has the bluray confirm?

Amazon is still selling it, get it while you can. If this ends up being true then I called it. We'll see how this plays out.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Funimation no longer has the license.

I looked, and the Blu-ray is listed as "No Longer Available" on RightStuf. Huh? Unless a re-release is happening I don't get why that'd happen. FUNimation first released 1.01 (theatrical cut they were required to license to get 1.11) in November 2009 with 1.11 (home video version) coming out in March 2010.

Keep in mind home video rights are often bundled with streaming rights these days. You can't get the streaming rights without also obtaining the home video rights even if you only care about streaming, this happened with Free! S1 and Crunchyroll, took years for them to care about home video. It was only early on that some Netflix stuff got a Blu-ray release in North America.

Well technically they can’t have 100% control because of how old the series is and that it has been available for a long time. But they could obtain the rights to the Rebuild movies to redub it with the new English cast.

They probably want the worldwide streaming premiere of the fourth film to themselves.

Yes and no. You're right that Netflix does not own Evangelion, and their rights are set to expire sometime in the near future. However, most companies (i.e. Funimation, Sentai) generally continue to extend their license with most of their shows or movies, especially if they're rather popular. Let's be real: Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most popular anime titles ever. It has stood the test of time alongside Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z. We've seen very little of Netflix's anime content going to home video and my guess is we likely won't. The streaming giant desires exclusivity and that's not possible if they make their titles available to purchase.
